  • This is how its done: raw, flawed, electric and thats just Lou!

  • Its real cool without the music. Reed is a hell of a front man ... until he starts singing.

  • the band is good, that man is shit at singing

  • cocaine's a helluva drug

  • congratulations on 70 years, Lou. Happy birthday

  • that band is fantastic

  • HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY LOU

  • I'm so used to the stoic figure of Lou Reed from his Velvet Underground days and his later years, seeing him bleached out and shimmying, channeling Bowie in his glam rock phase is a total trip. I've seen photos of this Lou but have never seen video. I love it!!! And Dave Grohl pretty much said it at the Grammy's this year. All that computer processing steals the soul out of music. I love some pop music and dance and all that, but there's nothin' like Lou and the VU.

  • How about that wild guitar? Nice! That is hard to keep up (without good drugs of course).

  • WICKED DANCING!

  • AMPHETAMINE LOU!!

  • wooahh..... go lou.... had the mohican an bum flap in "76"

  • Punk before there was punk.

  • I was there with my girlfriend who became my wife later! Finding this video makes me feel younger...

  • This song first appeared on Velvet Underground's album Loaded in 1970. The song is 40+ years old and still light years cooler than any of the auto-tuned syntho-pop ear pablum currently being fobbed off as the latest, greatest thing.

  • @carlhossli nice words!

  • that's fuck off, with double FF :-))

  • Lou is the King of "f*ck of all u frustrated music journalists", doin' his own thing. Metal Machine Music is Lou's GREAT MIDDLE FINGER addressed to them who didn't see the obvious, namely that BERLIN was an all time masterpiece.

  • I love to see Lou dancing around like a fool. It's great to see him happy!

  • Iggy Pop wanna be!

  • @carrier3232

Hardly. Read up on Rock history before you make comments that reveal your ignorance.

  • @KielyFP did i hurt ur little feelings mr, rock n roll genius! dont need no fool to tell me about rock n roll. got more knowledge in my little finger about it than that damp sponge of a brain u got.

  • this is garbage.....

  • @Alhambrattp this is the father of the music you listen to

  • @facubichosrojos

mate your father of music but defiantly NOT the father......cut down on the mushrooms.

  • lou was so awsome back then, I think steve O stole his look.

  • @edfrog1 It's funny, but if you look super lean with some muscle def.--like Lou looks-- the chicks really start to notice you.

  • @mrsolofeo lou dont like chicks!

  • @carrier3232 Lou's married - to Laurie Anderson just saying like.....

  • Lou looks so lean a muscular it's almost scary.

Nowadays, with fast food, it's hard to pull off this look.

Anymore, all you see are fat guys with beer bellies.

  • @mrsolofeo if your nutrition is speed, you look like that even today XD

  • @nimatek667 Yeah, I guess so--but his lean look is what I try to look like, but without drugs. Lou is 5'5" like me--but he looks a lot taller on stage because of his lean, muscular look--totally awesome!

  • Was Lou Reed working out at this time--or was it just the drugs?

  • @mrsolofeo definetely drugs

  • so damn funky!!!!

  • He looks like Duke Nukem

  • what a fucking dudester!!!

  • love that reed's moves man. Cuttin up that Fuckin rug!!!

  • magico lou.. magico lou..

  • This is the lou reed I saw in Atlanta in 1974...it was just as blurry, too.

The guitar break on R&R animal is 1 of my all time favorites!

  • You are absolutely wrong men this is not Steve Hunter on guitar, its Danny Weiss former member of Rhinoceros and Iron Butterfly. This is the sally can't dance tour from 1974.

  • I was once at the Captal in Passaic and someone passed a joint to Lou. He

said "I'm from New York. I don't smoke that shit"

  • seen iggy, seen bowie, seen bowie keyboarding for iggy never seen lou so july 2011 i realise my long desire to complete the trio by seeing this hero in one of the best venues around and then i can die a satisfied man .

lou reed the soundtrack of my life.x

  • You are INCORRECT! I was on tours just prior to that run and know all those guys. That is "Dangerous" Danny Weiss guitar, Prakash John bass, Pentti "Whitey" Glan drums, Michael Fonfara from Rhinoceros on keys, Danny Weiss and Michael Fonfara were both in that band. Go listen to some Rhinoceros and you'll hear that funky, chicken-picken style. Take my word for it. Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner were both on the "RocknRoll Animal" and "Lou Reed Live" records recorded at Howard Steins Academy NYC.

  • lady gaga just shit her panties and went home.

  • @jayrockwell33

just shut up if you got nothin to say at all.

  • @rnrdemon what do you mean you fucking TWAT you lady gaga lovers should all be fucking burnt. Lou Reed is KING. now fuck off yep - that's it.

  • @jayrockwell33

You are trolling Lou Reed videos with your Lady Gaga shit. That's what I'm saying, dumbass. You don't bring stuff like that in here, kiddo!

  • @rnrdemon shut up fuck you blah blah blah NO its YOU you're the one TROLLING GAGA SHIT all over lovely Lou - now trot along and FUCK. OFF.

  • @jayrockwell33

It's a hard life in the sanatorium, isn't it? Relax, tourette boy. And don't forget to take your pills.

  • @rnrdemon fuck off you gaga loving dick-face, your're tainting one of Lou's lovely vintage videos with your smell. fuck off now yep that's it run along chop chop

  • @jayrockwell33 I LOVE YOU!!!! :)

  • @fishnetsNcigarettes i love you more :)

  • @jayrockwell33 i love you the most ><

  • @jayrockwell33 One big thumbs up!!!

  • @raychoban in retronspect, 7 months ago i didn't mean to be rude, but fairs fair. let's be honest the state of international mainstream music is absolutely horrific. long live lou 74' - his best live year in a style :)

  • is this whole concert uploaded in full anywhere? please , anyone?

  • SPEEEEEEDY!!

  • Lou Reed is bad ass, man.

  • I like this funky guitar version :-)) and Lou Reed's phrasing. We covered 'Rock 'n' Roll' recently for a young arts student audience and they loved it ! It's on my channel.

  • FreakHamilton... Any fool can condemn, criticize and complain... An most fools do. I like the RnR Animal version a lot more than this one..Lou changed his arrangments up quite often The great musician you label a hack here is Denny Weis... Wagner and Hunter are probably the most acclaimed melodic rock guitarist of their era. They can play with anyone, anytime. They would have no problem upholding that today. Loud and wrong is no way to go thru life

  • OK, so is this Steve Hunter or Danny Weis on guitar? I was in 4th grade at the time, so damn if I know - still, Lou had a great band - one of the top 5 live albums ever.

  • Yeah, Steve Hunter. Words can't do justice to the greatness of R&R Animals. I was so happy to find this clip. It was a time and place, and this is one of the best live bands ever, if only for a short time.

  • Still like Mich Ryder & Detroits version a WHOLE lot better.

  • This is probably the only song from that VU album that I like. I honestly don't even consider the two latter VU albums 'true' VU products, that is with the lineup changing so drastically; most people would argue that it doesn't matter, or that a little change-up is no big deal, but the Underground's sound lost a lot of its power after Cale, and later on after Tucker left. 'VU with Nico' and 'White Light White Heat' are among my very favorite albums.

  • Wow I did not know Rock´n roll Animal was on video.Thank you for uploading it.Great album.Especially Dick Wagner and Hunters harmonies was so great.

  • this must be the maryjane version

  • Sorry you're wrong. The guitarist here is the fantastic Danny Weis, Bass Prakash John, Keys Michael Fonfara, Drums Whitey Glans. I had the joy of being FOH engineer for this tour and all the following Sally Can't Dance tours. I do have a great CD but Lou forbids me to release it. Maybe one day

  • he's fucked up

  • @jasperisneat

    and you're so neat

  • @bakabana1967 and you're so cool, bitch

  • Never understood why so many people thought Lou did drugs. Hmmmmm.

  • STEVE HUNTER and DICK WAGNER, guitar Gods

  • there are some holes in his arm

  • shake it down, Lou!!

  • Man that band really assfucked that song ...

  • this song just got me through the night... thanks for postin it

  • thr great Danny Weiss is playing guitar on this,,,,,,not Wagner orHunter.........all 3 great, underrated guitar players

  • Such a kickass song, describes all my feelings for rock 'n' roll and I bet I'm not the only one.

And thhis performance is AWESOME!The keyboard <3

Watching Lou (who cares if he's on drugs or anything) I can't help but dance like a maniac myself!

  • @celebrant9

Guess this is about Lou himself, when he discovered Wreck'n'Roll.

  • Rock & Roll Animals

  • real cool concert.I wished I'd been there.Rock on Lou !

  • I alwys thought the Velverts made the Beatles look like Herman's Hermats, and Reed made Lennon look like Mike Batt - this is one of his greatest songs - totally love it.

  • LOVE. THIS. VERSION. ABSOLUTE KILLER.

  • Cocaine

  • @palindromDK

    methedrine

  • 5 people missed the like button

  • ^-< Lou Reed - New York Album NOW ON YOUTUBE

    Uploaded for Lou Reed Fans.

  • @vivemaker thanks for the update! one of my faves, actually...

  • Lou rules

  • I surely miss Lou .....

  • @bluecheer00 He's still alive, right?

  • @dslgunner1977

He's alive, but not quite kicking as he used to ... :)

  • @bluecheer00 he's doing just fine

  • Comment removed

  • @dslgunner1977

    His name was never FIRBANK

it's just an hoax - he made it up himself just to ... yçu know...

  • @edmondcarrefour I never knew that.

  • @edmondcarrefour Thanks, I didn't read your comment until a few days ago, but yea, your right about the whole "Firbank" hoax. After finally reading what you said, I researched it a little more and, yes it certainly was a hoax! What makes it so bad is, I read so many internet articles, on Lou, that still list his 'real' name as Firbanks. Oh, well. Hahaha. I guess it's not as bad as the 'Lou Reed found dead in his appartment' rumor back in 2001. Hahaha, Lou's crazy!

  • Great band. Love the bass running away with the rhythm, the howling guitar and wicked organ.

  • @Dejital

The same band played on tour and studio for Alice Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare". The name of this fantastic bass player is Prakash John. The gutiar player is the marvelous Steve Hunter.

  • Thanks for sharing!

    Kisses from Brasil :o)

  • hiermee stond ik in 1976 iedere ochtend op, 't hele studentenhuis werd er gek van

  • To late me thinks He is all ready in the stars, but he getting into the grove, quality :)

  • haha, do you think Lou sucked enough coke up his nose before he hit the stage? he looks like he's ready to fly right up to the stars himself...

  • yeah, but don't feel neglected if your parents have the occasional spliff while you're in your bedroom, fucking with your girlfriend

  • Obama!!!

  • Obama what?

what has he got to do with this?

  • kinky funky reggae'n'roll

    finefinefinefine muzake

  • Definitely NOT Hunter/Wagner... does any film exist of them playing with LR?

  • So great!

  • The guitarist is the great Steve Hunter (Dick Wagner is also playing) check out Lou's Rock'n'roll animal album to hear them both playing some of the best guitar music ever commited to vinyl - as it was then. Incredible.

  • sorry kid............David weiss was playing here at the famous Paris Olympia gig.....Not Steve Hunter !!!!!!!!!!!!But as you mentioned Steve and Dick Wagner (of Frost and ursa Major fame) played on the classic Rock&Roll animal album !!!!!!!!!!!!!! one of the best Live album ever

  • I stand corrected. Thanx for the info.

  • @JCCBV The guitarist in this video is Danny Weiss, not Steve Hunter. This footage was in 1974, the "Sally Can't Dance" Tour. Search For Lou Reed Backing Bands. I made the same mistake.

  • @JCCBV

Are they playing only live or also on the albums of lou?Real good players indeed although I've not heard of them.gotta check the credits. If you want you can give me an answer.Greetings and thanks for the informations...

  • @JCCBV it's the best live album in the story of r'n'r (r'n'r animal)

  • @JCCBV Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner are hacks and Lou obviously doesn't know what he's doing here. Lame version of a great song.

  • @JCCBV No it's not, It's danny weis on guitar

  • who is playing guitar at this show. Look like greg allman but I;m sure it isn't.

I love the original version were he goes "FINE FINE music."

  • he was the shit in the 70's...I remember passing bones by the corner and talking the lines to this song to my buddies..."Hey Bo. Jenney says when she was 5 years old she couldn't believe what she heard at all...not at all..." We're all old now and have kids fixed to IPODS...who is that stranger I am sending to college...I wonder if she ever had (or will have) a "Jenny"

  • Cant help watching reed, bowie or pop without thinking how much alike their stage performances is from the videos from the 70's. Just me thinking this?

  • Back in 1974 it was just outrageous!

  • he had to be so coked out

  • lou reed = drugs, dark sunglasses to hide the drugs, boogie, and some slanted salivating lyrics about the neighborhood.

  • Filmé au Marni à Ixelles..

  • nice version

  • sd,gnshlkdvnxckl vnsdflkgnsdlkvnsdklag´skldgj

    anfeta y dolor

  • ya! it was alright!

  • WHAT A BAND! To me the Rock ' roll Animal Period is one of the best in the history of Rock. Seveth Fucking Heaven!

  • Lou in his 'insect' phase!

  • scott weiland definitely stole some of his moves

  • FUCK U

  • it s danny weiss on guitar and he' s playing better than ever

  • He was shooting Methamphetamine, which was also called "Methedrine" during that period.

  • Lou got some moves!

  • Oh my....I love steve hunter *_*

  • Are people really criticizing this? I like the recorded version better but are people criticizing the performance or the song? I love this song and surprised that people don't know it, even after hearing it on "Life On Mars"

  • "Reckon I'll jist shuffle off to Buffalo...and then some!" Smokin hot.

  • hahahahha

  • the cut off rock n roll animal is by far the best

  • super funked up!

  • Rock n' Roll!

  • all you do is criticise,

and Lou is much better than you !!

  • @bakabana1966

    Thanks bakabana1966 !!Great!

  • Seriously, Lou....no matter where your mind may be located....is the man!

  • I love Lou. Lou is so cool. This is an interesting version. This is a great anti-drug vid, though! I prefer the latter era of the guitar-playing Lou but I know it wouldn't be had it not been for this.

  • J'y étais c'était tout simplement envoutant...du grand du très grand Lou.

  • For crying out loud, someone upload the Hunter & Wagner version

  • Seriously. Dick Wagner's solos were magnificient.

  • Allegedly this is Lou's autobiographical tribute to his youth.

  • si faceva 3 chili di roba al giorno!! minchia se era per aria!

  • alamosquare, parli a vanvera.

  • It's like the speed version ahah.

    I love it.

He's really sexy in this too...well he was always pretty sexy haha.

  • srsly

  • no, I'm positive it is danny

  • Comment removed

  • that is danny weis on guitar

  • I think it;s Steve Hunter playing lead.

  • haha- this is good, the Loaded version is the definitive.

  • The guitar on rock n roll animal's version was better. Dick Wagner was awesome. This was my anthem in high school.

  • i love lou reed, but i also like good music, and this rocks my socks off. but its all in the band. rock and roll animal is one of the greatest albums of all time not because its a lou reed album but because of the band. and what a band it is, not to downgrade lou's awesomeness or anything. but jeez, even the most static vocalist like lou can sound great wiith that band behind them

  • What a delicious piece of candy!
