Let me attempt to write this, and it come out the way I mean it to: I have been a fan of O&A since 2004. I respect Howard Stern (not a fan) but respect him for what he has done in the Radio industry. I am only 27 and have been a big fan of comedy/stand-up comedy for at least 15 years. I can't tell you anything Dice has done that I think is funny, PERIOD! Not on O&A, not on Stern, his Stand-up, his tv, and movie projects all are not funny to me.
He was revolutionary in 1990. You were too young to know that then. You had to be there and be old enough to appreciate it at that time, that NO ONE was doing what he was doing back then. By the time you got into comedy, his career was over and his appeal was gone.
Clay has no one to blame for his career being in the toilet except for himself, obviously. He eventually manages to agitate and annoy everyone until they not only won't work with him, they also root for him to fail. Howard gave Clay chances when no one else was even returning his phone calls. That kind of friendship deserves loyalty and respect.
But at least Howard's not a Jewish guy stuck in a guido satire character. After all the Jersey Shore mania though, I started missing the Diceman, so I guess there is need for him, like some sort of meatball superhero. DICEMAN vs FARTMAN. lol

Actually KROQ used to play his show on weekends and maybe youre right, maybe I'M wrong, all I can tell you is that I was 19 in 1989 and living with my girlfriend in an apartment in Northridge and remember listening to his show daily, but maybe my chronology is off, either way, who cares? Actually KROQ used to play his show on weekends and maybe youre right, maybe I'M wrong, all I can tell you is that I was 19 in 1989 and living with my girlfriend in an apartment in Northridge and remember listening to his show daily, but maybe my chronology is off, either way, who cares? The show is and was great.

lol, "mercy booking". I love Howard but he can be a completely insecure and sneaky douche during scuffles like this one. He loves having control overt the volume and talking over his opponents. The depth of his insecurity sometimes surprises me, like the nose job and chin implant shit. He used to joke about nose jobs but I never thought he'd go through with it. Kinison, Pryor, Bill Hicks and even Stern could be as equally ribald as Dice in performance, but they probably had enough good sense not to shoot themselves in the foot like Dice probably has. Dice is a self hating Jew who tries to sell himself as a tough Italian both on and off the stage.

@StormSong8 Some celebrities tend to do that, recording artists being the prime example, or washed-up celebrity athletes. He reminds me of Hulk Hogan who's lived his gimmick for so long that it's bled into his personal life. What gets me about Dice is that he's an insult comic who buries anyone on account of their race, creed, gender, etc,,, and yet he keeps his semetic heritage on the down low. I remember when he spazzed out on Martling whenever he would broach the subject years earlier.

@StormSong8 Agreed. Kinison, Carlin and Pryor had enough talent, practicality and humility to back up their comedy routines. Dice, however, comes across as so full of himself. The fact that for years, he has always tried to hide the fact that he's jewish says alot about him. I don't understand how being jewish somehow undermines his self-professed working class personna.

@jstephenj Maybe it has something to do with the time period he grew up in. I'm 36, and I've never heard anyone my age making fun of Jewish people. I'm not even sure where the perceived stigma against Jews came from, but it's clear Dice knows and is way hung up on it. It's sad he couldn't get over it; only the Ku Klux Klan and Dice seem to hate Jews in this day and age.

@StormSong8 I don't think Dice hates jews as overtly as the Klan, but he does seem to be ashamed of being one ethnically, as he's gone to great lengths to conceal this. His real name is Andrew Clay Silverstein, but he dropped the last name for obvious reasons. I guess in his small mind, being jewish is equivalent of being weak or unmanly.

I loved how Howard emphasized that in his verbal exchange. I mean, what self respecting Italian today would even dress up in such a loud ensemble that Dice does these days? And then he has the nerve to question Stern's sexuality.

And if insulting ethnic minorities is the bread and butter of his entire act, why does he endeavor to hide the fact that he's jewish? I realistically can't see this guy as having endeared himself with bigwig producers and entertainers alike. Dice was at best a shock comedian at best. Nothing more. Guys like Carlin, Kinison, Prior, Hicks etc... used vulgar material too, but they could be irreverant also. Dice could never evolve past his tired nursery rhyme formula.

People loved Pryor for his willingness to share his private and humiliating life on stage, Kenison because he was admittedly the little insecure guy who used his mouth to make up for it, Carlin because of bold and hysterical way he thumbed his nose at authority... As an L.A. listener from 1989 and on, some of the best Stern moments were when Dice rolled in with his entourage of retards and ruled the show. Don't get me wrong, I have always been more of a Kinnison man than a Dice man, but this was just ugly and sad. I was so sorry to see this happen. Mostly because Stern did to Dice what he does to every caller, screw with their levels, talk over them, not listen but just act like a jackhammer and ultimately hang up on them. all of Stern's other TV endeavors were not.
The Fox Show never aired
(i've seen it on YouTube, and it's good that it never aired)
The CBS Show sucked,
Son of the Beach was the most heavily hyped nothing I ever saw,
Doomsday and Howard Stern: The High School Years never saw the light of day.
Dice Clay's TV track record is not much worse than Stern's.

What's most embarrassing for Stern is that this is at Dice's absolute low point of his career, and still Dice isn't silent for one second and Stern has to keep repeating the same abuse over and over and over in order to keep Dice muted. Stern, you were owned, but we just couldn't hear 95% of it because you did the 4-year-old routine of putting the fingers in your ears and say "LALALALALA! I can't hear you!".
