The American people have too much pride, especially in the south. I want you to prove me wrong that the average soldier does not depend on the check he receives to survive or help out his family. Government knows this and tries not to give too much because it is not to the interest of the military. After all, even defense contractors need steady stream of soldiers to do that dirty work. A high turnover of soldiers is counter productive.
