  • Hey everyone. I plan on making a video on how to root 2.1 on the Hero, and how to upgrade your recovery image. Should be up pretty soon.

  • @goku14238 Woot! Yes please! I'd totally love that!

  • @goku14238 Yes please! Soon! lol!

  • i am on the second step and it says is not recongnized as a internal or extermal command, what did i do wrong?

  • why wont it find asroot2??

  • Like the video I was trying to push the recovery image it wont do it. and when i try to mount the recovery image through he shell it said image is not found. do you have any advice?

  • terrible video

  • Ok dude, seriously, every effing walkthrough for this that I go to, something has to be wrong. This time, it happens to be the fact that I don't fucking use the command prompt. Would it hurt to show how to find the folder? Seriously? "Find your way"? COME ON.

  • wat does it mean by root??

  • when i type adb devices my phone wont come up. any idea on how to fix?

  • also check out

    w w w. HTC-Hero. com

  • how come every time i click "backup recovery image" it says Failed???

  • it gave me that error too at one point, try restarting your phone, or reinstalling the recovery image

  • how long is the reboot usually taking?cause like its been more than 30 mins and its still rebooting

  • something may have went wrong, you could try pulling the battery

  • hey bro after every line you type..do you press enter ? another thing..do you have a screen shield on the phone? if so where did you get it ? thanks

    EBAY FOR SCREEN SHEILD

  • Won't work for me, my phone kills asroot2 every time as soon as i try to run it.

  • @jteknet same here...

  • hey im toohaving troubble flashing the img. it is on the sd card. i checked. but still getting no such file or directory

  • i am thinking about getting the tattoo want to know can u root it

  • not sure, never tried rooting that phone

  • I keep getting an error when trying to flash the image, it says no such file exists I've checked the file, I've checked my spelling I don't get it

  • i cant download the recovery image from your link

  • what type of error are you getting?

  • @goku14238 i got it downloaded when i do this will i lose my contacts

  • no, you shouldn't lose anything. And plus you contacts are backed up to you Google Mail account, so if they somehow get deleted, which is very unlikely, then it will just re sync and download them again

  • @goku14238 ok i wasnt able to extract the recovery image but i saved it in the tool section of the sdk file should that still work

  • you are not supposed to extract the img.. It should stay as a .img file

  • @goku14238 you direction said to extract to the tool file it is a img file

  • @shadowsitter84324 sorry, i will change this in the directions. I thought the file was in a zip file.

  • My hero's microphone isn't working now because of a rom or who knows what but how do i get back to the old rom so that i can install the new update patch and get all the bugz fixed? Help a brotha out

  • do you have a custom one installed?

  • it is giving me the error "error opening recover-ra-...." i used a file manager on my hero to confirm the file is on the with the appropriate file extension etc. whats the fix for this ?

  • hmm, where exactly are you at, which step.. and is the recovery file in the root of the sdcard

  • @goku14238

I got it. Just log into the shell instead. of trying to execute outside the shell

  • @goku14238

Holy IM me on aim at h4x0rjdag. I got some more. Questions. I'm online all the time

  • Will this work if your carrier isnt sprint but cellular south its is the same phone htc hero cdma?

  • it should, i dont see why not, give it a try, no harm in trying

  • I keep getting 'cannot create su file read-only ' after cat sh (forward arrow) su

  • ok, got that part right but when I flash_image it says error opening recovery-RA- etc. No nuch file or directory.

  • is it place on the sd card?

  • are you still having issues?

  • Finally got it! Thanks, great vid.

  • your welcome

  • I followed the XDA tut and rooted before I found this vid. Just posting to say good vid.

  • thank you, this is more of a visual helper and to show that I actually have root thats all

    :-)

  • How can i "make your way to the Android SDK tools folder where the file adb is located " im so lost I save the folder on my desktop

  • lets start here, where do you have it saved?

  • I got it =]] Thanks

  • Ok :-)

  • To everyone having problems at the flash_image line, type in adb shell first then hit enter and type in the flash_image.

  • @goku14238

i meant to asked you "chmod 4775 or 4755 su???

  • @batteurnormal813

    chmod 4755 su

  • @goku14238

I did it... after it reboot to the that screen... what do i do from there what do i choose?

  • umm you dont have to choose anything if you want. But to be on the safe side, in case something happens to your phone, you could do a nandroid backup and store that on your computer just incase.

  • @goku14238 Thanks alot Goku... are you running any custom rom and how do i flash roms

  • At the moment Im not. I haven't seen one that I really liked yet. If so I might upload a video on how to do it. You would flash it in the recovery.

  • @goku14238

yeah I did it.. Im running the MoDaCo ROM

  • how is it? I havent tried it yet? Any thing different?

  • thats what i did sir.

  • really? try typing in adb shell, then su, then type in the flash_image line

  • I see what happened.. type in adb shell first.. then hit enter and type in the flash_image line

  • after i typed chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2

i got permission denied is that right?

  • are you in usb debugging mode? Tell me exactly what you did so I can help you troubleshoot it.

  • @goku14238

I followed all the steps but when i got to "chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2" i got an permission denied and yes im in debugging mode

  • @goku14238 Im also using Windows 7

  • you have to run you cmd prompt in admin mode. To get full permissions. that should fix your problem

  • @goku14238

im on the last step when i type "adb shell flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img" then hit enter, says adb not found

  • you have to type adb shell first then type in the flash_image line

  • I went to the step 1 link, what is it that I am suppose to d/l? The windows blue link on the page?

  • yes, if you have windows, the download android-sdk_r3-windows.zip

  • do i need to get 1.6 somehow, if so, where can i find that d/l link....my command screen shows android-sdk-windows\windows\tools> instead of how yoiurs has 1.6-r1\tools>

  • When you download it, it should come with both 1.5 and 1.6. I downloaded my SDK shortly after receiving my hero on the 9th of October. They may have updated and changed the name of it. Should still work with what you have

  • Man nice I only rooted my hero I don't understand what the recovery img is for please enlighten me.

  • it helps you to backup your phone just in case accident mess something up... It also helps you to flash custom roms to your phone

  • thanks for the video, had my phone rooted but needed it for recovery image.

FYI for people creating a recovery image:

Ran into an (out of memory) problem in the last step but all i needed to do was reboot and then the recovery image was able to be applied.

  • no problem. Im glad it helped

  • does this work for the sprint hero ,right?

  • nevermind lol

  • lol :-)

  • i link it in the description, check the part under **recovery**

  • when it gets to the end and i type

    adb shell flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.2.3.img

    it says adb not found

  • you have to type in adb shell first hit enter then you type in the flash_image line
