I think that was an excellent cover version, great playing and never heard anyone do vocals that sound so like Justin, especially from an American! You don't have to be a comitted Christian to enjoy good music but I do wish people would not make vulgar or racist comments, it just makes the writers look ignorant!

Newspring Band sings some songs as analogies to culture. Like, for example, we were doing a series on Propaganda and they were talking about purity. they sang Katy Perry's song "Teenage Dream" and asked us if we could point out some lyrics that conformed to this cultures way of propaganda. the "cultural songs" you hear being played are either for the fun of it, or for lesson reasons. not for praise. NewSpring is a blessed church. Who are you to judge it?

Stop twisting secular songs into a Christian meaning. How would we like it if someone took a worship song like "Mighty to Save" and twisted it to be a tribute to firefighters or policemen? They save people, but it doesn't mean that's what the song was written for!

I thought the main reason to sing songs within the body of Christ was to bring glory and honor to God and to proclaim of his redeeming love. What you have got to understand is they do worship as well. This was a transition into the sermon for the week. This is just to attract attention. My church did a series called "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and every week our Pastor picked out a song and had our worship pastor perform it. It was entertaining because some of the songs were old and some were new. It's a way of entertainment.
What you draw people with is what your draw people to. What you draw people with will be what you keep them with. People are converted by the foolishness of preaching and by the power of the Holy Spirit. Look at Peter's sermon in Act ch. 2. He tickled no ears nor appealed to peoples need to be entertained. Too, and in response to earlier comments, just because someone responds to some emotionally manipulative invitation does not necessarily mean they have become a Christian.

This is great!!! Amazing falsetto...and it will bring and KEEP young christians...in the church! When people keep things in context and stop trying to split hairs they can appreciate a church that is reaching out to people in their 30's and 40's..the GEN X'ers...people that seem to be the most agnostic and atheistic of all the age ranges...I go to a church that is contemporary like this...and I TELL PEOPLE I LOVE CHURCH...can you all say that or do you go because it's whats proper and expected?

i'm all about new methods of community and a new wave of music coming into churches and i listen to secular music. whether or not i disagree with playing the song in church (i do and it is sexually explicit)...these guys look like complete goofballs anyways playing it. when you look at churches such as hillsong, north point or new life and see what the worship teams are doing there in comparison to here the impact those churches are having is so much more significant than this. case closed.
Actually if you compare it to those said churches, it's equal. It's all worship toward god and it obviously works. Look how many people go to that church. Look how many people are saved there, baptized there, etc. There shouldn't be a grade card on worship; it all goes to the same place.
i'm not saying there needs to be a grade card...but i know for a fact that that song was not played as a worship song at the church. i'm assuming it was geared more towards a special. so since we're looking at something that IS NOT worship i feel that we can grade it. regardless, the influence of places such as hillsong and north point CAN be measured...as their worldwide influence is evident through united and passion. this place isn't even on the map in comparison and i can see why with this.

Conforming the church to the image of the world is not the same thing as people conforming to the image of Christ.
I am not sure that you can point to the Bible and show me where it was ever suggested that God's people should look, act, behave, talk, sing... like the rest of the world. We are called to take the offensive message of Christ to the world.
And what should God's people LOOK like? Suits and ties? Don't go to church if you don't have something to wear? ACT like? Like they're perfect? BEHAVE? LIke their in love with Jesus? Got that down... TALK like? SING like? Make a joyful noise. . .

I agree with this argument. It is not what is on the outside, but whats on the inside. The idea behind God requesting us to not be like the world is in it's sinful ways not in appearance, unless it represents sin. This song has a strong love message and can be used for Good (Godly matters) outside of it's slightly sinful context. It's the heart that matters, not the outward appearance. Look, I've heard Perry's "sermons" and I've seen what you do. I was in a church JUST LIKE YOURS for 2 years. You guys aren't doing anything new or inovative. These "churches" are a dime a dozen. Light, fluffy, non-offensive, man-centered, man pleasing ear scratching.

Don't flatter yourself. Persecution (biblically) is for speaking God's truth. This is an accurate assessment of the facts in light of scripture. I don't need to "set foot" into that building to learn anything new. The church is to centered around God and His glory in worship by the ssaints, not a fun house for unbelievers to be entertained. True, born again believers need to be taught the Whole counsel of God.
Being present at that building doesn't change the content (or lack thereof) of the message. Perhaps more of these "pastors" should actually study the bible and prepare their own messages instead of downloading them from other churches.

In fact I think Jesus had some pretty harsh words for the Pharisees. We should be willing to do anything short of sin to see people come to know Christ. Playing secular music in a church building is not a sin. Especially if it makes a non believer feel more comfortable and in turn more receptive to his Voice.

Church means "called out ones". The church is the place where believers gather to worsip God (on His terms, not ours) and get equiped for the work of ministry. It's not a place to entertain a bunch of goats.
Incidentally, God still creates ways to get His word even into those other countries.
Playing music like this at church is a profane offering. Just because we under the new covenant does not mean that we have the liberty to worship the way we like.

As I said, the whole premise of these kind of "churches" is built around unbelievers. In the book of Acts, the church is about believers gathering to worship God on His terms in the apostles doctrines and the sacraments. You can show me where the church services are about inviting the "unchurched" to church. Also, the term "seeker" is unbiblical.(Romans 3).
Peter led no one. It was God who added to the church. Peter preached in boldness, the one true gospel and men repented. There was no man-centered, self help pograms and no entertainment. Peter preached in the open (not at church) and when these people were saved, they joined the fellowship.

There is a HUGE difference in TEACHING THE BIBLE and teaching FROM the bible. Churches like this do not teach through the whole bible and show people what it really says. They teach a bunch of self help therapy to people who are preoccupied with their own personal benefit.

I had to come to grips with the fact that the whole premise is not biblical. These people need to repent and preach the one, true gospel that brings true salvation.

Its obvious to me that Christ was teaching this way so they eventually would turn and be forgiven.

There's a consitent theme throughout the bible that demonstrates what happens when man departs from God's word and decides to do his own thing. God has given very specific instructions as to how we are to worship Him, how men are saved and how we "do church". God works in spite of the things that these man centered, self help houses do.

Newspring Band sings some songs as analogies to culture. Like, for example, we were doing a series on Propaganda and they were talking about purity. they sang Katy Perry's song "Teenage Dream" and asked us if we could point out some lyrics that conformed to this cultures way of propaganda. the "cultural songs" you hear being played are either for the fun of it, or for lesson reasons. not for praise. NewSpring is a blessed church. Who are you to judge it?

What you have got to understand is they do worship as well. This was a transition into the sermon for the week. This is just to attract attention. My church did a series called "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and every week our Pastor picked out a song and had our worship pastor perform it. It was entertaining because some of the songs were old and some were new. It's a way of entertainment.

People are converted by the foolishness of preaching and by the power of the Holy Spirit. Look at Peter's sermon in Act ch. 2. He tickled no ears nor appealed to peoples need to be entertained. Too, and in response to earlier comments, just because someone responds to some emotionally manipulative invitation does not necessarily mean they have become a Christian.

This is great!!! Amazing falsetto...and it will bring and KEEP young christians...in the church! i'm all about new methods of community and a new wave of music coming into churches and i listen to secular music. whether or not i disagree with playing the song in church (i do and it is sexually explicit)...these guys look like complete goofballs anyways playing it. when you look at churches such as hillsong, north point or new life and see what the worship teams are doing there in comparison to here the impact those churches are having is so much more significant than this. case closed.

Actually if you compare it to those said churches, it's equal. It's all worship toward god and it obviously works. Look how many people go to that church. Look how many people are saved there, baptized there, etc. There shouldn't be a grade card on worship; it all goes to the same place.

i'm not saying there needs to be a grade card...but i know for a fact that that song was not played as a worship song at the church. i'm assuming it was geared more towards a special. so since we're looking at something that IS NOT worship i feel that we can grade it. regardless, the influence of places such as hillsong and north point CAN be measured...as their worldwide influence is evident through united and passion. this place isn't even on the map in comparison and i can see why with this.

I agree with this argument. It is not what is on the outside, but whats on the inside. The idea behind God requesting us to not be like the world is in it's sinful ways not in appearance, unless it represents sin. This song has a strong love message and can be used for Good (Godly matters) outside of it's slightly sinful context. It's the heart that matters, not the outward appearance. Don't flatter yourself. Persecution (biblically) is for speaking God's truth. This is an accurate assessment of the facts in light of scripture. I don't need to "set foot" into that building to learn anything new. The church is to centered around God and His glory in worship by the ssaints, not a fun house for unbelievers to be entertained. Well then I guess new believers in countries where Bibles are outlawed are in some deep trouble. I prefer to believe that God looks at your heart, not at how well you can quote scripture. In fact I think Jesus had some pretty harsh words for the Pharisees. We should be willing to do anything short of sin to see people come to know Christ. Playing secular music in a church building is not a sin. Especially if it makes a non believer feel more comfortable and in turn more receptive to his Voice.

No you don't! You assume that people who attend a church that plays rock music have no knowledge of scripture! I have seen nothing but good fruit coming from these churches. People are being freed from addictions, relationships are being restored, marriages are being healed. People are coming to Christ!! How is this not good fruit??

As I said, the whole premise of these kind of "churches" is built around unbelievers. In the book of Acts, the church is about believers gathering to worship God on His terms in the apostles doctrines and the sacraments. You can show me where the church services are about inviting the "unchurched" to church. Also, the term "seeker" is unbiblical.(Romans 3).

47 praising God and enjoying the favor of ALL the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
How could so many be saved if they weren't invited to break bread and fellowship with them?

Peter led no one. It was God who added to the church. Peter preached in boldness, the one true gospel and men repented. There was no man-centered, self help pograms and no entertainment. Peter preached in the open (not at church) and when these people were saved, they joined the fellowship.

There is a HUGE difference in TEACHING THE BIBLE and teaching FROM the bible. Churches like this do not teach through the whole bible and show people what it really says. They teach a bunch of self help therapy to people who are preoccupied with their own personal benefit.

I guess you probably think I'm being mean, but I'm not. I served in a church just like this for almost 3 years. I've seen the fruit of it and it's more bad than good. I had to come to grips with the fact that the whole premise is not biblical. These people need to repent and preach the one, true gospel that brings true salvation.

Amen, I did to, but the church I went to never went this apostate to bring satanic music into where Gods people are to worship him in spirit and truth. NS likes to make the lost comfortable in their sin,thats why these churches grow so much. Becausethe lost come in and see that they can "say aprayer" and then still have their fleshly desires be fulfilled and they don't have to FORSAKE THEIR OLD WAYS. 2 Tim 4 1-4 applies to these so called churches.

No, Paul taught the early Church how THEY should behave. The world has changed a little bit in 2000 years. We are not to take everything literally in our culture. Do you believe women should wear head coverings, always remain silent in church, or never have a short haircut as Paul teaches in 1st Corinthians?

There's a consitent theme throughout the bible that demonstrates what happens when man departs from God's word and decides to do his own thing. God has given very specific instructions as to how we are to worship Him, how men are saved and how we "do church". God works in spite of the things that these man centered, self help houses do.

I'd LOVE to inform you it says in the bible NOT to diss the brothers. (Not in that wording.) and Newpspring Church brings different meanings to songs. You have to think about it in a different way, dur. And just because Newpspring isn't some boring church with one dude talking behind a stand the whole time doesn't make it a social hall, it makes it fun.

Church is not just a place for believers to be fed... Babies feed from their mothers... Mature adults feed themselves... Church is a place to bring non-believers to Christ...
And... I'm not quite sure what's wrong with wanting to kiss your wife every hour, every minute, and every day. If worship is to glorify God, then honoring and wanting to kiss your wife is part of your daily worship. God created it, and when done in the right context it's glorifying to Him.
