Just last weekend, my Mom just got an offer for a secure job. She was one of the unlucky ones that was laid off several years ago and had to switch on and off between unemployment and unsatisfactory jobs. She turned it down because (surprise!) it meant that she would have to work on ALL the holidays. I love my mom, but it would appear that, even in these times, the status hold true.
Its morally and illegal if men and women are paid differently based on the exact same position, number of hours, qualifications, productivity and the like.
lmao so company's don't hire equally qualified women for less money, even though it would mean more profits? yeah, ok, so company owners are not greedy enough then?
This idea, though it has evolved significantly and seemingly disappeared from the fronts of our minds still affects how we view certain careers. Of course the more masculine oriented careers are more valuable to society. What I am asking is that this type of thinking be abolished, that no person should be afraid to choose any career. If a woman really wants to live comfortably and establish gender equality, she should consider breaking away from the career mold that most women pursue.
necessarily need higher pay because there abilities were innate to their female personality (the caring, emotional, nurturing, mothering abilities). They were natural abilities, not really even considered talents. Compared to developed, learned abilities that men got from extensive schooling, employers saw these female abilities as less valuable and important. Men proved their intelligence through schooling and hard work while women at the time were just fulfilling their natural role.

....make it through the to the top in those arduous situations. It is unfortunate I think that men and women are told that their identity and behavior must conform with the expectations of society, which consequently means that women "the weaker, nurturing sex" make less money. This can go back at least a hundred years when such jobs like teaching, nursing, and social work increasingly became occupied by women. Many employers justified low salaries claiming that women did not...
Many young women need to realize that no career is out of their reach as long as they work hard and are open to challenging the old belief that certain jobs are traditionally male. The same goes for men: a man should not be discouraged from a career in traditionally female roles: nursing, teaching small children etc. The only unfortunate thing for women is that there is a persistent and aggressive "good ol' boys club" that exists in many top paying fields. Only the strong willed women.....
I think the way that men and women choose a career is also based on predisposed stereotypes of the roles of men and women. For decades, women, the stereotypically more "nurturing" sex were encouraged to be teachers, nurses, secretaries, etc.; jobs that most definitely make less than say a career in law, business, medicine, computer science, and engineering. There are women out there who do make a lot in the latter fields I mentioned, and they make more than most men in this country.
Not only all of the what has been said, men are performers and get the job done. If the world was handled to females for one day...the world would count a billion catastrophy.
Stossel says Greed is Good-defined as self interest-for the wealthy if so Greed-self interest- is good for other people the 99%. LITTLE FLAW IN STOSSEL STATEMENT GREED IS GOOD DEFINED AS SELF INTEREST THEN IT'S GOOD FOR EVERYONE NOT JUST WEALTHY!!!!!
@packerfan748 And considering all of the accomplishments that men have made throughout history, giving birth is probably the only thing that puts women even remotely on par with men, and even then they still need men to do that.
Oop-as per years and years, again in this report it is left out that women perform more of the tasks in the same amount of time as men to prove themselves on the job and also women have that 2nd job - taking care of a household/family - at this point in time, needs to have dollar value place on that household/family job- how much the woman is saving the family by taking on the 2nd household/family job that the family is not paying out to maids, laundry service, babysitters, lawn care, etc. . .
@1Getstartedwith1 and men do not do those things also? Are you saying people should get paid for looking after their OWN children and household? Are u insane? The economy would be sucked dry in seconds!! Is a nice fluffy idea but completely unrealistic, and not all women feel the need to preform more tasks in more time. Also, that has certainly not been my experience over 12 years as a Chef in the hospitality industry, quite the opposite actually!
@1Getstartedwith1 if you feel that taking care of your own home and children is burden to you then don't get married and don't have children. it's as simple as that.
My mom will never fess up to the fact that men make more because they work more. No matter what numbers I present she always goes for the sound bite over the data.
@sniper6081 Yup, that's because women LOVE to find something for which they are the "VICTIM" over so that they can have a reason to bitch, complain, scream, whine and get UNLIMITED validation, support and sympathy, etc Those figures are all BULLSHIT! I've never known any woman has ever said they got paid less for the same job, unless they were LESS qualified, which happens to men do. Women are NOT happy unless they're BITCHING, WHINING and COMPLAINING about something!!!!

The reason women may work less hours is because men don't do shit at home
