  • Now if I could only see how to start one of those beauties.

  • WOW When I knew about the existence of this kind of locomotive I had always been wishing to be on board. Finally I have got it. It is also nice to apprecciate the idling motor. I understand GENSETS as these locos are called are only used for yard work and some local switching. Is not it?

  • These are nice locomotives. I've saw a few CSX ones go by where I live. I cant wait to operate them one day!

  • How much do you get for being a train engineer/driver/whatever?

  • great Video, I would like to see the cabs of the SD70ACe and Gevo's. If you have time

  • Awesome! GenSets I'm fifteen and live in NH, but I am interested in working on a railroad as an engineer. An egineer 2 years ago from Pan Am Railways let me drive a loaded coal train at 15mph for 6 miles to a powerplant! It makes me want to work on a RR and I want to try to take a railroad internship for a summer. Is that possible on a class 1 Railroad do you think?

  • I heir a SD70ace in the background.

  • in three years im most likely to be an engener for up or bnsf i hope bnsf............

  • Can't wait till I'm working for CSX or NS, and driving GP40-2's

  • I saw an NS GenSet in Atlanta yesterday! It looked cool.

  • Wow it looks a lot similar to the California Northern Engines.

  • Don't talk much, do you?

Can't see this having the traction of a real loco...

  • ugh, why does everything have to be "eco-friendly"? were steadily going back to the 60s mentality, except its that the people have to go and not the government has to go

  • The diesel engine is the New Cummins ISX Hybrid engines 700 hp each incredible.

  • Unless Cummins builds & designs "ISX's" differently for these locomotives than for trucks.....that is Not an "ISX" ....they don't have individual heads....as observed in the

video......looks alot more like a "KT" family series engine.

  • Thanks for the heads up on that. Im sure they are built to differant specs for Locomotives.

  • @TurbinePower69 Looks like a QSK19. Holset HX82 or HX83 turbo is a pretty good indicator of the QSK.

  • @DandADiesel Thanks..and Yes, your right...the QSK's of course being an ongoing / industrial version of the old KT / KTA series of the 70's which, besides having industrial applications, were also utilized in OTR class 8 semis. Good " eye " on the turbo !!

  • Those genset locos look cool I`ve always wanted to drive one and I hope all locos are as eco friendly as they are.

  • Ah, kind of like a hybrid car. I see.

  • Why are they called Gensets? Who are they built by, GE or EMD or someone else?

  • They are made by RailPower. They are called Gensets because Gensets are fossil-fuel powered generators used to run electrical devices or to charge batteries. Genset switchers use 3 motors that only are on when they are needed. For example, with a 5 car load you only need 1 running, but with a 20 car load you need all 3. It saves fuel and reduces pollution (by as much as 80%)

  • They are actually made by NRE (National Railroad Equipment)

    great info otherwise

  • Um, no, the Gensets used by UP are made by RailPower... NRE does make low-emmision locomotives but they do not make the Gensets like the one in the video.

  • GenSet actually stands for "Generator Set" since the locomotive has a set of 3 generators. One generator for each powerplant in the loco.

  • Cool

  • Thanx 4 posting this. And realy, for this job just basic math and reading? What do you do anyways as a UPRR employee?

  • Do people posting these comments not realize that the person who posted this video is A UNION PACIFIC EMPLOYEE!!! THE VIDEO IS ON HERE FOR RAILFANS LIKE US!!

  • What unit is this of union Pacific

  • its so, quiet, its amazing

  • yes it is

  • because it is shut down, duuhh

  • No just basic math and reading. There is a simple reading test before employment.

  • @Trains4003 so anyone could be an employee if they pass the test

  • @Trains4003 what do you mean by basic math you mean like adding and subtracting ? cause then that must be easy as hell to be a up employee

  • those camel jockeys cant fly a train into a building and if one got a hold of a train they would get derailed very fast.

  • Sure I'm a railfan and eveything. This isn't brave, it's plain stupid. It's people like this that are ruining the hobby for the rest of us.

  • Excuse me but I am a Union Pacific employee! I would not recommend any railfan do this. If you not an railroad employee you are trespassing. The railroad is not kind to trespassers. Trespassers don't realise how much danger there in. Please be safe out there railfaning. I was posting this video for a friend who loves the Genset loco's. I was putting this on here for foamers who would like to see this loco inside.

  • Idiot idea, good vid. I would recommend you not do that again. Let's hope some terrorist don't see this vid & get any idears.

  • you meant ideas rite? wow and you called this guy an idiot?

  • If I had a dime for every cab I snuck into, I would make Bill Gate's treasure look like lunch money.

  • @CSXno601 you'd probably need all that for bail if you were caught >.<

  • that thing is like brand new

  • UP would SO want to know who you are.....but for this heroism, you need the 5 *'s!!!

  • you are brave man my friend! nice vid!

  • I would not recommend it, every rail line has their own security detail that you do not want to run across.

  • LOL

  • By the way the video was shot it looks like you were in a hurry. I can hear a engine running in the back ground. What a brave foamer you are.

  • WTF did you do sneak on board while the engineers were out eating or something?

  • Nice foaming
