  • can you show how to install it

  • The MOUTH NOISES yuck!. Move back from the mic when you need to smack and slosh your tongue around you sound disgusting. What is wrong with you - sounds like you are in my ear with that sticky saliva coated hole you call a mouth.

  • @sigularity1 haha! shit I didn't even notice that for the first 3 minutes...and now it's bugs the crap out of me.

    Still, nice vid. Very informative.

  • @sigularity1 no offense

  • Thank you for this. It made me decide to move on to CM7.

  • my notification or navigation bar isnt there.. can anyone help please

  • @Eddogegr3 Is there a way you can be more precise as to the customizations? Where are the CM7 tablet tweaks?

  • Is this safe to do. Is it worth it or should i wait until my nook has aged a bit or what.

  • I did the cm7 mod and my kids wont give me back my nook! Before they could care less about it. If you look at the nooks specs its still better than alot of more expensive tablets on the market. B&N really handicap the device!

  • Hey, thanks for your response, its running great! If u don't mind I have another question. I've loaded HBO GO and MAX GO and I keep getting a system clock error. I've checked the system clock and it seems find. Any clue what the problem might be? Thanks again!

  • After you wipe out the b&ns software can u acess the 16gb

  • @iphonehackeranddevol You would be talking about the Nook Tablet. This is the Original Nook Color that only has 8GB. I think you can access 5GB of that for personal usage?

  • Refurb Nook Color's are on sale for 119 now until supplies last on the barnes and nobles ebay store...

  • I would really love to know what u did to have yours run so smooth as well as the neat tricks i.e. moving controls to the top, the apps, screen motion etc.

  • @cmbruno46 A lot of it has to do with overclocking (smoothness) and ADW Launcher tweaks (smoothness) and CM7 Tablet Tweaks setting (moving bar up)

  • When do you think they're going to do the ginger bread?

  • I found a Nook Color for 150 refurbished, is this as good as buying a Xoom? Minus the cameras?

  • @heardcountybrave Not to burst your bubble, but no, Xoom is much better. After having a Nook then moving on to a G Tab 10.1, I found apps designed for a Tablet make all the difference. Plus, Dual Core, etc. With that being said, for 150? The Nook is a fine alternative.

  • ok so what happens now when you have rooted with this and almost all the apps in the android market are updated to where you can no longer use them... like Nook ereader app?

  • Question: What does rooted mean ? I just bought a Nook Color & wanted to explore my options ...

  • @Cistar7 It's like jailbreaking an iPhone. Unlocking more features than a stock B&N store-bought Nook Color will allow you to have

  • @cacatu74 Thanks. So I just bought a Nook Color; Should I root it ?

  • @Cistar7 I mean, it is the popular thing to do. You unlock many features. You just have to get a Class 4 or higher microSD card with at least 8gb. I would get more so you can DL lots of content. go to butterscotch(dot)com and search "how to root nook". It will be the first search. The only thing that would ever stop people from rooting is the occasional bugs that might happen.

  • @cacatu74 Okay thank you. But two more questions please :)

    1. What are the drawbacks of rooting the Nook? Like, what kind of features will I lose? &

    2. What kind of bugs do you mean, and how often are these bugs happen? Are they severe bugs?

I'm sorry for all the questions, but I'm terribly ignorant in this area, and you seem to be really smart about this :)

I just want to get the most out of my Nook.

  • @Cistar7 I don't think you'll lose any features. And when it comes to bugs, it could be certain apps (force closes and such), some lags, or other things that could be undesirable. But I am the wrong person to ask about the kinds of bugs that you'd find on the Nook Color. Every mod works differently. I just speak from experiences of modding other devices (xbox, iPhone, GameCube, etc..)

  • really need help, does anyone know how to root a new 1.3, and does cm7 work with the new 1.3 software .

  • You need a filter on your mic... every time you swallow your spit, I can hear it as though you're doing it directly into my ear.

  • Funny how this runns a million times smoother than the stock software

  • @Scuishi88 You mean 2.3 runs smoother than 2.2? I heard 2.3 requires a high amount of overclocking, which makes the battery life much shorter? I'm buying nook color soon, so you're saying cm7 is much better than stock, regardless of battery life/oc?

  • @Deadjoe669 Battery Life, IMO, is not much different. Sure battery life might be hurt a bit, but you still have hours.

  • just buy a nook color and root it and its a cheaper tablet!

  • Thanks but I think I'll stay at 2.2, its very stable, CNN apps is ok, Netflix is working by replacing the build.prop on system, n64oid n pxoid is working, youtube is working, tether gps is working

  • @Fogstover When the Nook first came out and it was still on 2.1, CM7 was much more desirable. The B & N 2.2 update did make some significant upgrades. So staying on Rooted 2.2 is a good option so I can't blame you.

  • how do i get my background to look like that? what launcher are you using?

  • @usagent34 ADW Launcher EX -- the paid versions allows animation

  • How do I do this only put it on the sd card. I want to keep some of the nook functionality

  • @puppyrootbeer Not sure, I ran CM7 from internal storage only and was content with the Nook App.

  • Has anyone succeed in using Bluetooth headset with NookColor CM7? (like 7.1.0 RC3) I can pair the headset with NC, but no input/output through the headset when I play music and try an audio app.

  • @Fogstover Don't wait, it's already out. I still prefer the current nightlies as they are usually stable as well.

  • Seems like 1 person forked over way too much money for an iPad.

  • I will just wait for a stable cm7

  • @Fogstover It is stable.

  • I was wondering, can you take the sd card out or something to run the original firmware or would you have to un-mod it?

  • Quick question-- I noticed in this video you removed B&N software and just have the app. I use my Nook quite a bit for the kids read to me books for my kiddos. Will these books still work as they do with stock Nook software? Thx.

  • @lanaeAK No, in CM7, I do not believe this is possible. You can still root it wiht Manual-Nooter (formerly Auto Nooter) and still use many of the Android Apps and also have access to the stock B & N software.

  • @lanaeAK I did try it and you are correct, the read-to-me books do not work with the Nook app, only with Nook root software. :)

  • would you recommend this to someone who wants this just for android but without all the features the actual android tablets have? i wanted to get this and root it and just use it like i do with my phone... well with that said does this count as a tablet when you use the apps? or does the market see it as a phone device?

  • @Android80631 With CM7, this is like a big, polished phone. It only feels like a tablet when I am playing games or reading in the Nook app. (Other exceptions of course, but generally, more like a phone, less like Honeycomb).

  • Thank you. Also one more quick question. Once I put 2.3 on my nook, can I remove it again and reset it back to its original state?

  • @TheOrion142 Yes, just make a bootable "restore" SD Card and you can EASILY put Stock back on. Their are entrie threads dedicated to this (how to) on the XDA forums.

  • If I put 3.2 on my nook, can I download game apps free like on my Android phone?

  • @TheOrion142 You mean 2.3? Yes, you can. Same Market. SOME high graphic games may not work, but 95% do I found.

  • Do you prefer this or the "tablet tweaks" version?

  • @content3300 Tablet Tweaks all the way. It makes SO MUCH of a difference. Especially since the Nook does not have the native hardware buttons. Plus, it looks like Honeycomnb.

  • How good is the battery life with the android on it instead of the b&n software?

  • @AchievingMyDreams With the newest nightlies of CM7 (Not Stable Release 7.0.3 or before) Battery is significantly improved. With Stock B/N, it may be the best. But of course you don't get all of the goodies.

  • @Eddogegr3 so what are we talking as far as battery life is, 3-5 hours? Or like, a month?

  • @AchievingMyDreams With mid-range to sort of heavy use, it will last all day. Just recharge it at night. All the stable versions currently (up to 7.0.3) are very bad on battery. You must use the newest nightlies. No LCD screen device will last a month.

  • @Eddogegr3 I know no LCD screen device will last a month, I didn't know how long the nookcolor was supposed to last normally. lol.

  • what are some of the widgets you have installed?

  • @vizuet713 Beautiful Widgets, Live Scores, IMDB, Others... I forget.

  • What did you use to get all those apps to fit so nicely?

The best I can do is a 5x5 grid, and that leaves everything ridiculously spaced out. :/

  • @PandaMyCo ADW, Zeam and most custom Launchers allow you to change the number of Rows and Columns.

  • @Eddogegr3 Oh okay, I ended up using Go Luancher and that worked great. :)

  • how did you remap your volume buttons?

  • @vizuet713 It is easy if you have Root Explorer. I have not done it for a couple of months but it is basically a text file in the system folder you have to edit. I think it is like Button 109 (or something like that) . I simply changed it from VOLUME_UP and VOLUME_DOWN to MENU and BACK. However, since Tablet Tweaks have been introduced in CM7, I find this unnecessary.

  • For free public domain titles, the simplest route is probably to just go to manybooks and download them in epub. You can do it right from your NC browser of choice.

  • B&N does offer more free books than Amazon, but the formatting is terrible on about 80% of them. I think Amazon does some things better than B&N and vice versa. The thing I like about rooting the NC is that you can get the best of both.

  • @moost76 I agree with their formatting. Google books is much better for old stuff, and that's why Android rocks!

  • I installed gingerbread and my computer doesnt recognize my nook when I plug it on my usb port . I know I have to manually select share usb but I don t how.

    Thank Pat

  • @patcrj IF you are using a Nightly, USB is still non-working. If you are using a Stable Version, it should work then I assume the issue is on your end.

  • @patcrj A lot of people don't realize that CM7 doesn't automatically mount your NC + SD card when you plug in USB. You'll see a USB notification in the status bar, and if you bring up notifications (green arrow in a broken circle button) and tap through, you'll find a "turn on USB transfer" button.

  • @TheTaosaur Yes, when you are on stock and plug in the USB Cable, the SD Card as well as the eMMC are both mounted and pop up. On CM7. Only the SD is mounted. It's like what happens when you plug an Android phone in. Am I wrong?

  • @Eddogegr3 CM7 mounts up two drives, too. If CM7 is on eMMC, it will mount the 5GB (or on newer NCs, 1GB) storage partion, and the first partition from your SD card. If CM7 is running from SD, it still mounts two 'drives,' but the MyNookColor partition will just be the ~1GB system partition (may vary depending on what SD method you used) and SDcard will be the storage partition on the card.

  • @Eddogegr3 With CM7, though, they don't just "pop up." You have to go through notifications and "Turn on USB Transfer" to mount them.

  • Barnes and Noble offers more free books than Amazon offers total books. Get real

  • @tmacfan811 If I'm wrong, I apologize. I just know that Amazon's Kindle offers free classics like Frankenstein, The Count of Monte Cristo, Pride and Prejudice, etc etc while I compared all of those with the Nook app and they were all .99. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I don't really care, I don't use this as an e-reader. I like B&N and Amazon as companies and support them both.

  • @tmacfan811 No, that's a ridiculous exaggeration.

  • You can put the notification bar on the bottom through cm7 settings, under "Tablet tweaks"

  • @ralphvdberg Yes, I am aware of this and even have a video on it. The video above is older. I was using Tablet Tweaks before it was even merged with CM7. It completely changed the user experience for me. It feels much more like a tablet with just a couple of changes. It is almost "Honeycomb-esque."

  • how does it perform with pdf files of 100Mbytes size?

  • @tyronelpz Ok. I suppose it depends on what PDF reader you are using. I think PDF's in general can be slow loading, outside of that it's ok.

  • I installed CM7 last night, but now my PC doesn't recognize the Nook via USB. My Google-Fu is failing me. Is there a fix for this?

  • @anesthezea You must have installed nightly 59, 60 or 61??? I believe this is a noted issue that will be fixed shortly. If you installed a Stable version? I am not aware if this issue so it may be on your end...

  • @Eddogegr3 I don't believe I used the Nightly version - those are premium/paid, yes? I used CyanogenMod 7.0.2 Encore via ROM Manager (easiest install ever!). I'll keep looking for a fix. It's only an issue at the moment because I want to add some things to my microSD card and I've lost my adapter. Thanks!

  • @Eddogegr3 I feel so stupid!! I have fixed the problem - USB Debugging was on by default. Once I unchecked that, the USB Storage screen came up. I could just kick myself! :c)

  • @anesthezea Very nice! If you didn't figure it out, I was going to recommend a great app called WebSharing (provided you have access to Wifi). It is a buck or two.

  • @Eddogegr3 A great free way to get into your PC over WiFi is ES File Explorer. It's now my file manager, data transfer, and oddly enough, video player of choice.

  • So on my Nook Color stock, I'll need to run the Auto-nooter first, and THEN install this version?

  • @Toddcraft Yes. AutoNooter is the rooting process and is necessary (and then adds the Market to the stock layout so you can then install a Launcher to turn it into a tablet). Then install ClockWorkMod and then CM7 and off you go.

  • @Eddogegr3 Thanks. I went ahead and did all of that, and everything seemed to be working just fine. The only problem was that every video player I tried had major audio syncing problems with xvid files, and I couldn't get the USB mode to recognize the nook on my computer. I got USB mode to work, but it would only see my SD card inside the nook, not the actual nook for some reason. I ended up giving up and just flashing back to the stock rom, the updating to the B&N 1.2 version. It's frustrating.

  • @Eddogegr3 Actually, you don't need to root to get CWM. In fewer steps, you can flash verygreen's size-agnostic SD installer to a card, drop in a CM7 ROM, and use ROM Manager to flash the latest CWM to the eMMC. If CM7 is running well from your SD, however, I would advise new users to just install gapps and run from SD for a while. Mine runs great with CM7.0.3 and dal's 1.3Ghz OC kernel. Google "daylight nook odyssey" for how I set it up.

  • @TheTaosaur If you root by flashing the SD card, what changes are made to the Nook itself? Is it possible to have your cake and eat it too?

  • If it removes all traces of a stock nook color, does this mean you can't read books on 2.3.3?

  • @knight398 woah nevermind. you just answered my question after I kept watching

  • Woot I bought a rooted nook with froyo on internal and gingerbread on SD card for 220 on eBay Woot

  • @Spencerwalker21 Seeing how you didnt do it yourself.. your cm7 is already dated. The official release for the final build was today.. read up and update

  • @Schardt12 cool I heard about the stable cm7 being released I guess I have release candidate 2 was wondering how easy is it to upgrade

  • @Spencerwalker21 super easy, no need to wipe the data (just the cache partition) and reflash your kernel (if using a custom one) AFTER flashing the update.

  • hows the battery life on it?

  • @DrgRiderz17 Not very good compared to stock. At this point, though, I believe it is fixable in later versions of CM7. Don't quote me on that. Or do. Either way.

  • Thank you so much. I'm such a newb on all this and VERY overwhelmed. thanks to unlockr i was able to root my NC quite easily...the video WAY helped me and i'm going to watch it again as i remember him mentioning stuff about booting other roms. I Love my NC and i think that this is going to make the experience that much more enjoyable! great video! thanks much!

  • sooo i dont suggest wiping data cause its gunna cause i did and now i have issues.

i think i can fix it by burning clockwork mod image (the autonooter img)used to unroot and just drop the zips in there and then boot into recovery.

    any suggestion?

  • @eddogegr3 so there isnt any other way of creating a back up with the nook itself? and if the free version if TB will back up ky whole set up...

  • @toomuchgame441 The Free version of TB will backup and restore your system. But in the free version, the restore process is painfully slow. After 1 attempt, I shelled over the money. As far as making a backup of the Nook itself? I suppose you can do a Nandroid backup in Clockwork Recovery (or thru ROM Manager). Outside of this, I am not sure.

  • Buy Titanium Backup. Worth the money. It doesn't just backup your apps but your system files. So you can do a complete wipe/reinstall of the ROM and restore it back as you had it exactly with Titanium. Plus there are other nice features in Titanium such as uninstalling system apps, freezing apps that you want to hide and not uninstall, etc.

  • Oh thanks, I am interested in getting this ROM, my main thing is that I'm still a little shaky on making backups... how would I back up my rooted stock setup?

  • Does this run from the sd card, typijg this from my nook ;-)

  • @toomuchgame441 I am not 100% sure on this, but I am pretty confident that with the CM7 team, it is eMMC (Internal memory) only. There may have been a third party making is flashable by SD but I am guessing no because it would be too tiresome to update this on a nightly or weekly basis. Correct me if I'm wrong?

  • @Eddogegr3 I'm not sure if this is the same for the nook but they update cm7 nightly for my phone.

  • @oOMarioMafiaOo They do in theory for the Nook. It's generally like 4-6 times a week.

  • great job demonstrating the core functionality of CM7 on the Nook.

Im surprised more people havent watched this video considering the popularity of the nook. Launcher pro may get rid of some of the overall lagginess

  • xda forums will help you out with this rom lol.

  • are you offering this as service or can you place on an sd card?

  • @toccomy I'm not offering anything. I am simply showing what you can do with this. As someone said, go to the XDA forums. Greatest group of developers on the web. I simply follow their instructions in a "cut and paste" manner.

  • very nice i might go with this instead of hc.
