hi, i'va downloaded everything and done all the steps that are depicted on this video. my problem is that in vmware, i am using vmware 8 and backtrack 5, but when the machine is open, i dont have the usb like icon where i can connect to the internet thru linux. please help. i dont know what else to do on vm ware to get that icon. i have a toshiba on windows 7.
@spicychickenize I have never used vmware 8. I actually prefer everyone to boot to a live DVD or USB for backtrack. Vmware causes too many problems. Also there should be a section in vmware where you can list your devices and check them active or inactive.

Hi, thank you for your tutorials. I have a question on this one. Sometimes the aireplay-ng -3 keeps reading and reading and won't send anything. Is it possible that you actually need at least one station to be connected to the router to sniff an arp packet in the first place? And is there any way to generate traffic if it's just you and the router? Greets and thanks.
@Breakdowncookie Sorry for the delay my friend. Yes there must be an ARP request generated for you to capture and replay it. A station on the network is great to have and makes it much easier. It is also possible that other devices can send an ARP request. You can also try to force an ARP before going with another method. check out my site top-hat-sec(dot)com if you have not already.
I seem to be having an issue with this one. I can't seem to get #data to go up. The number of packets goes up rather quickly but the #data goes up like 10 every minute. any advice?
@Raventattoo I am having the same issue as trexpowers and cant find the CWSP course. I have tried the method displayed in this video on 2 diff routers and no packets sent, but the number of packets does go quite large. What is the issue here? Thank.
So I've been trying and trying to figure this out, but still no luck. When I run airodump I start getting a list, but eventually the list gets too big and not all of the information is viewable :/ Is there a way to scroll through all of the info?
@OoTIMMoO on the side of the konsole, there should be arrows. But what you will want to do first is hold the control button and then the C key. This will stop it from scanning more. Then you should have no problems scrolling up and down.
@Raventattoo Yeah I did stop the scanning, but there are so many networks around here that the list is bigger than the alloted space. So it doesn't even let me scroll through it :/ Not a big deal since I found the little work around, and definitely wouldn't be an issue if you didn't have more than a couple networks around (over 12 here)
@oktimokti Sure, the process is almost identical except we have to specify a "wordlist" because wpa and wpa2's are passphrases, (passwords that you make up). WEP is so much easier to crack. Using a wordlist also does not guarantee that you can crack the password for WPA, and it also depends on the depth or length of your wordlist. BT4 comes with one built in but its quite small compared to all the others that exist. I will do WPA for sure, I have some other stuff to do first.
Why don't you use monitor mode for WEP attack?

@OoTIMMoO Okay didn't figure out how to see the full list, but I used my card software to get the BSSID of the network I wanted ;)
