Loved the lead solo!!! But seriously, folks -- The Stranglers were one of my faves ... bunch of (relative) geezers who weren't "New Wave" in that exciting era, nor "Punk" in the sense of vomiting in wastebins at airports (that's all some people remember, I'll bet), nor slashing themselves onstage, nor any little slot critics (who almost loathed them) could stuff them into ... very rude and a wee bit nonconformist , if I remember correctly.
I think the days of Hugh and the Stranglers will never happen again. Sad to say. They were the perfect band. That's why it's so hard to forget .Like losing a loved one.And maybe it's just wanting to feel like we did then. Or we could just piece it together by enjoying what's left, the music of the Stranglers and Hugh's wonderful voice and presence.
Thanks so much for posting this! No one ever managed to replace Hugh--especially that guy in the 1997 video, stupid poser. I wish the real Stranglers would get back together for a tour.
"Down in the Sewer", "Peaches", "No more Heroes" et al, yet this is such beautiful song. I know he's referring to the British tabloid and sparse consolation...it just makes it all the more poignant.
