I have a question: after recording a video, it seems there is no audio in the video playback and you can only hear the audio once the file is uploaded onto the computer. I don't know how to turn the playback audio on, can you please help me? Thanks!
@TheTrollAmongUs I wouldn't recommend the SX30is because it has the 35x superzoom with the same sensor as this one (something like that) which I've read reviews that say it gives a poorer image quality. And believe me, I've donde A LOT of research in these 2 cameras (SX20is and SX30is) including Nikon models and I'm going for this one.
i got this camera 2 days ago, i noticed that most of the photos i took are pretty soft though. do you know i can make them more crisper-looking ? (especially in macro) ?
this is an ok camera i have its next to me right now;The only thing i dont like about it is that you cant add lenses if you can change the lense with an adaptor can someone please tell me if you ca?
Hey, i'm thinking of getting this camera for my birthday this wednesday, i'm going to be 15 but i really really enjoy photography. Would you, a purchaser, recommend buying it? Does it focus well? Is the macro good? Is the lighting good? A few tips would be much appreciated :) Good video by the way!
i think I know what you mean when you say blurry backround as in the effect of the background being a little blurry and the main subject being clear . that can be done a few ways with macro or using your zoom or getting close to the subject. the idea is to get close to the subject no matter how you do it either by zoom or physically
Every time i try to record something it lets me record for like a few seconds then says busy and stops. ive recorded for longer before. idk what happened. i know there is room on the memory card. any suggestions?
I sell cameras at my job. HDMI is only really necessary if you definitely intend to hook the camera up to an HD tv. Don't worry about that right away. There's ways around it. And AAs > rechargeables like Sony cameras. Rechargeables are a pain in the ass to find and expensive whereas AAs are everywhere. As far as sound; it's stereo recording so it won't get thrown into one speaker. The camera is a great buy. Next step... EOS
Thanks for sharing. I also plan to get this. I've used all Canon point-and-shoot digital cameras ever since, then jumped to Nikon D40 DSLR. But since I'm only a hobbyist photographer, and I love the long-range zoom, this is what I plan to get next. I'm so excited and I envy you very much. Hehe! =D Enjoy shooting!
The huge zoom was also the reason I have ordered this camera. I currently have a 4mp 10x optical zoom that i've had for about 6 years so it was definitely time for an upgrade.
The paper manual in the box is really only a 'getting started' guide and doesnt cover the more advanced features of this camera. The full manual is a pdf file on the disk that comes in the box so if you want the full manual which is 179 pages you'll have to print it out yourself or get a friend to do it if you dont have a computer and printer. There is no HDMI cable or memory card in the box when you buy it so these wlll be extra expenses you'll have to take into account.
I prefer the AA bats. I carry 2 extra rechargeable sets, which cost me less than $20, while two proprietary bats, like for instance on Panny's, would probably be at least $60. Also, in a pinch, I can just throw in some Alkalines.
Not really a problem. You can get AA's almost anywhere on the planet! It also takes 300+ shots with these batteries at the highest settings so I really dont think its necessary to go out and buy a charger and rechargables.
I never thought of watching an open the box video, but I'm glad I did. Now I know what to ask for as far as accessories like the HDMI cable and perhaps a DC power cord.
Hey Kie I'm new tot he whole entire camera thig but cany ou tell me how do you do you a hd video? If you can, can inbox me about it or reply to me on the video because I really do wanna start gttng into recroding and other stuff like that.
All you need is a camera that can record in HD. You can buy cheaper HD cameras that don't do much for around $200 or you can buy camcorders like I have for around $600.
Of course you're going to need a decently fast computer to be able to process everything, especially if you plan on doing any video editing.
I have the Canon VIXIA HG20, hard drive based HD camcorder, records in 720p-1080p. I got it for $600 around Christmas. I highly recommend it if you have the money. That or the HG21.
Oh so exactly how do you record and process a HD video like what supplies do I need and stuff like that? And do I have to hook the camcorder or camera to the computer or what? What cables and wires do I need? This camera I just might get it depends.
The camcorder will always record in HD. Just depends at the MB you choose. If you choose anything other than 24MBps, it will be in 720p quality, if in 24MBps it will be 1080p. You have 5, 7, 12, 17 and 24MBps to choose from.
To transfer the video footage you use the USB cord that comes with the camcorder. The files are AVCHD, .MTS Format. You can use a program called Alive HD Video Converter to convert them to .WMV, .MPEG, etc.
Yes, in order for it to show up HD on YouTube, it must be 1280x720 or bigger. You can stretch a video size bigger in some video editing programs to make it HD, but the quality wont be.
Yes this camer has great quality and focuses well. Not sure what you mean buy blury background. You may want to check out some reviews of this camera I am enjoying mine and am very pleased with it's performance for the price.
@jst4tim i think what he means is that say if you are trying to get a picture of a leaf and you focus on the leaf, everything behind the leaf is out of focus but the leaf is in focus.
Its not a DSLR,if thats what you ask,so the quality might quite differ,in low light, for ex,but overall the quality is great) and this kind of cameras blur the backround as well, but i think u need to zoom in a little) overall - great)
@princessmaee Are you talking about when the subject is crisp but the background is out of focus? That is depth of field. If you shoot pictures in manual focus, you can get that. Not sure about manual focus on video. If you want a camera like that, get a DSLR, like the EOS series
Thanks for watching. The main difference between the SX10IS and the SX20IS is the SX10 only has 10.0 Mega Pixels and they bumped it up to 12.1 Mega Pixels for the SX20 also the SX20 will shoot (720P) HD video. I hope this helps.

Unless you plan on connecting it directly to your TV, you wont need an HDMI cable.
