none of them are marji3, so they cannot give a fatwa. But khumaini has forbid it. as for sistani, he didnt give a fatwa because many uneducated people would try to make a fitna out of it. the majority of shia are against it.

that is not true, sayida Zainab would never have done such thing and theyr is no evidence of that. as for tatbir in iran, it is practiced by some people but not in the cities, in the towns where the police usually dont care about it, and not the all the shia practice it. It was not known until hundreds of years after Imam hussains death. It was probably under the influence of the enemies of shia to make shia look bad. Shiek al-wa'ili speaks for the majority of shia.

i participate in ashour, but iv never did tatbir. Some rituals in my opinion dirsepect the morals that Imam hussien stood for. especially the cutting. As for the evidence that tatbir is hallal. that may be for individuals. there is no hadith about our twelve imams permiting it. but there is hasdith that allow latom. Shiek wa'ili made a very good point and i think shia scholars should start forbiding.
