  • Great style of lesson. You put in a lot of useful information. It's a simple line, but the details count, and i don't feel like there are enough lessons on youtube about these nuances. Top notch.

  • Great vid!

  • Really happy you're doing these videos. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon your website with its top class transcriptions and it's good to see you're taking a different approach to the YouTube music lesson style.

More power to you. Got to love the YouTube musical philanthropists!

  • Love your work bro. Keep the lessons coming!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great lesson.. .. This should you be the format for all lessons, perfect balance of information.. Thank you so much

  • Oh, and you look totally different with hair!

  • great way of breaking up the song, very easy to understand, great job

  • Just a suggestion from frequent bass video lessons user ;)

Fretboard markers are big help for pupils, figuring out what's happening is just so much easy with them!

I understand, the player you doesn't really need them but for educational purposes they are useful...

  • Also, do you think somewhere down the line you could do some tutorials for jazz chord progressions (not just I-ii-V, more along the lines of alternate chords, add 9s, add 6s, etc). I'm also really interested in the methods and practice of improvised melodies, like you cover on your channel.

PS, I noticed a strange bassline in the newly released song "Grown Ocean" by Fleet Foxes. It can be found here on Youtube. I'd like to see you tear it apart for us.

  • @C33Four I'm not planning on getting into theory too deeply, because I think most of those topics are covered pretty thoroughly elsewhere - just going to touch on things as they come up in songs. I'll definitely take a listen to that Fleet Foxes tune, haven't heard the new album yet.

  • Hey Arcellus. I'm majoring in composition and I play bass guitar, so to hear you talk about bass-theory (if you will) is like porn for me. It's easy to take a class and learn about classical music, but modern stuff stumps me - even if its because its too simple. I always think I am hearing tonic or another chord when I don't even think as you say, "The song never reaches tonic."

Anyways this is refreshing, informative and fun. Don't change a thing, looking forward to the next lesson.

  • @C33Four Awesome, glad you liked it. That's exactly what I'm going for, sort of a "rhythm-section theory" format.

  • Great job, thanks! stereo image felt a little to the left -- just something I noticed.

  • @groverkillelmo Yeah, something up with my mixer that I couldn't correct. Will be fixed on the next lesson.

  • Dude. You cool! I like your 'tab's a joke' statement. Spot on! I ain't reading yet, but I'm totally in agreement with you. This was really well explained too. Thank you.

  • @hahabass No problem!

  • this is the way lessons should be taught. great great work arcellus

  • @toddhamby Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Look for more soon!

  • very cool.

  • this is great news, and it's good as always.

also, there is no sync problem ;)

    thanks arcellus.
