  • Hahah, I love the man waving the little American flag at the end.

Purely Americana at it's best ;]

  • Try singing the chorus to "Les Fleur" by Minnie Ripperton over the start of this. Fit's perfectly.

  • Man i love sufjan!

dose anyone know any other songs that are like Jacksonville?

  • "ring them bells" is done very well like jacksonville theres another group called "welcome wagon" they're a couple that constructs theire music just like sufjan and he even produces is which is why but def. check them out.. they're all religious and its really cool :) hope you like it

  • Aw man. Sufjan Stevens is huge now.

He's no longer my secret little musician.

I remember back in the day, there were only 2 pages for sufjan stevens results on youtube.

I remeber when this vid had like....3 comments.

    ahhh....the good old days.

  • sufjan stevens is i think, and i think everyone would agree with this, but one of the best musicians of our age, no argument

  • Usually wouldn't be my genre.

But I like its catchy and he has a really good voice (:

  • Sufjan Stevens is a genius.

  • He IS talking about Jacksonville. Dammit's post reads: "It's connecting the abolitionists from Illinois (INCLUDING JACKSONVILLE, OF COURSE) with their future counterparts destination: Jackson, Alabama, a hotspot of the civil rights movement."

  • oh, i thought he was talking about my hometown of Jacksonville, Illinois ...haha.

cause we have a Nichol's park and we also had a big racism problem

  • It's connecting the abolitionists from Illinois (including Jacksonville, of course) with their future counterparts destination: Jackson, Alabama, a hotspot of the civil rights movement. It's really very clever.

  • wow this song's cool

  • haha thanks for posting. My buddy on stage in the blue to the left of sufjan will get a kick out of seeing this. :) Thank you!

  • the dude with the big hat is way cool...

  • Its about my home town in jacksonville IL. this whole album is about illinois (obviously) I'm not sure why he picked our town for this song though, its small and boring, but def what hes singing about - nichols park, the wheel, even a refrence to illinois school for the deaf and illinois school for the blind in their. awesome song, awesome band!

  • Great band!

  • sufjan stevens is gods gift to mankind.

  • I agree. Truer words were never..written.

  • What the hell is this song about?

  • Whats the name of it? uhhhh jacksonville. so what do you think its about?

  • That in no way explains lines like "I'm not afraid of the black man running, he's got it right he's got a better life coming." It's about more than a place. Perhaps it's about race relations.

  • I'm so bummed I couldn't make it to Sasquatch but seeing him next month in Portland!

  • randy wow thats a bit left field, it is a celebrated somewhat comic expression from the 70's that suggests that one may be considering engaging in a sexual act and it is precisiely the feeling one has

prior to commiting the act! the word that may be in use in the states is horny, but horny is vulgar!

  • Oh man, he is so great! I am probably the only Black guy in NYC that likes him :)

  • hey i am probably the only indian man in London that thinks the same

  • ROFL! Oh well...more for us! Yay!

  • trans atlantic terminology interpretation please: what does ROFL mean?

  • Rolling On The Floor Laughing...for all you Brits! Okay, tell me what the term 'Randy' means overe there...lol!

  • I'm sure you're not. Especially in a city like NYC there are tons of black people who listen to music other than hip hop and r&b. I mean, I'm in a smaller city, Chicago, and have lots of black friends who like indie, some of which like Sufjan, including myself. You're not that special, believe me.

  • Fuck, I love this man so much.

  • good sound on this video!

  • i dont care what the captain said, i fold it right at the top of my head

    lol...good video

  • i was there on stage
