I grew up with cubano chant by ray, my dad used to play it on his tape recorder. He got the tape from his uncle who recorded it from a radio station in the USA in I guess 1957....
I still have this tape and am now collecting Ray's cd's! What great music these guys (Ray and the other musicians of his era) made! Even my kids love it!
Geez, does this bring back old memories. In the late fifties in Chicago I was 12 or 13 and at night I'd tuck my little transistor radio under my pillow and listen to Sid McCoy's late night jazz show "The Real McCoy." He used to play this, along with a bunch of other gospel-tinged jazz & blues. Loved this song.
I remeber the frist time I heard in the back oof my father's car, I was a little girl i loved it. Thanks for uploading this old favorite of mine. I went out & brought this album as soon as I was able to in the mid sixties.
His music has brought so much joy to me throughout my life.
Ray Bryant was the first jazz pianist I remember hearing on the HiFi back in 1960 when I was in second grade. For months I would be humming his Satin Doll. I still have that old Mono LP record (Jo Jones Plus Two).
Because of these early childhood experiences, Ray Bryant has always been my very special, most beloved jazz pianist.
@shayna0205 I just found out Ray Bryant passed away. "Little Susie" was one of the first records I bought. Geez that was a long time ago. The song still sounds great. We have been fortunate to have his music.
My father took me to a concert in Central Park NYC in the sixties and the acts were singer Jon Hendricks, The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchesta and openting act the Ray Bryant Trio. I had never heard of him, but was so knocked out I went and bought a bunch of his records. I'm still a big fan and play this and several of his songs and arrangements with my trio.
Thanks for uploading. I used to work in Threshers and always interchanged Ray Bryant blues CD with Slayer. Needless to say, the regulars always appreciated hearing Little Susie over Angel of Death : )
Many thanks, Ray

I remember this one by Ray. His daughter was sitting on the piano bench next to him on the
record jacket. on Columbia the title song. We students would race to the jukebox between college classes to play this record.

Ray Bryant, brilliant behind Sonny Rollins in the fifties. Listen also to his duo CD with Ray Brown.
