@autembor im not japanese/korean tho i just speak pretty good japanese. but yea they can't understand each other's language at all without the knowledge of another language altho they are very similar, as opposed to the fact that danish, norwegian, and swedish speakers can sorta understand what's going on with other languages without or with very little training, or the relationship between portuguese and spanish. but of course if one would like to learn the other's language it can be very fast.

@natygoly Korean and Japanese are pretty similar. People speaking either language can pick up the other relatively easily, and their relationship is kinda like the roman languages. Chinese is another story. Korean and Japanese are (arguably) in the same language family while Chinese is a Sino-Tibetan language. They share similar vocabulary (on certain level) since both Japanese and Korean culture were greatly influenced by Chinese culture, but grammar-wise they are completely different.

@natygoly The basic word order of Korean and Japanese is SOV while that of Chinese is the same as English which is SVO. It might be surprising for you but the fact is the grammars of Chinese and English are much more similar than Chinese and Japanese/Korean for both Chinese and English have the same basic word order form and very little conjugation. Chinese is and English is developing toward a analytic language.
