@saddy78 I think the silver, the grey and the black look sexy... but the light blueish color one is the absolute worst imo... yellow and lime green are a close second.

Its a nice car, I admit, but I feel like the taillights are a bit outdated and ugly style wise in comparison to the rest of the car... anyone with me?
Only cars that can compete with Hyundai/Kia is Porsche, from 2010 models , on mid lx level , Fk BMW, on reliability
Japan's outdated Tech' can not even come close to super modern manufacturing facilities of Hyundai, entire complex is a giant computer circuit , level of quality control is unprecedented, materials & metallic durability surpass any other contenders..
Ps, To fart a bit of drag race point,, brawn idiots throw away practical economy , 2~3 years ago is ancient to K-cars
I would have to disagree, the original datsun 240z was a game changer, it changed the way we looked at imports - the genesis coupe does not. This car is a spiritual successor for the 240sx, Nissan couldn't deliver so Hyundai capitalized, but the car is not innovative or a game changer, just my 0.02 $.
How is this car in any way light, capable, or easily modifiable? You have shitty power out of both engines until they're forged, it's heavy as fuck and has numb steering.
It's nothing like a 240. It's way more expensive than even the priciest 240.

the only bad thing i don't like about this coupe is that if of average height, there is no way you can fit in the back seat. Your neck will be seriously crammed.
I've seen 2001-2005 models on craigslist for $15k-$25k. The M3 and many other awesome cars can be had a steal, but people don't look and continue to buy new cars only to incur heavy depreciation, especially with a Hyundai.
No actually its Hyundai's engine, they designed it. Chrysler uses a modified version of it, they had no part of the production version that went into any Hyundai or Kia

The Gen coupe is a sweet ride. I can't help but think, though, that the Gen coupe and Sedan would have been automatic undisputed instant HITS if their base prices would have been about $3,000 less. A 2.0T for $19,000! The 3.8 for $22,000. They wouldn't be able to make enough...still great cars nonetheless
The important point is that WE CAN BUY GOOD CARS CHEAP. Thanks to Hyundai. Hyundai's used one is much cheaper though. It's a good deal for practical people.
You can waste thousand and get an inferior product if you really want to buy domestic. Personally I like the idea of a value for my money hence I'll take the imports. Americans/Canadians can't make a car to save their life.
damn if hyundai came out with a luxury name, they wouldnt get all this shit for being a hyundai. everyone else has a luxury name. volkswagon-audi, honda-acura, nissan-infinity. They would have to try so hard to prove themselves if they just had a smarter marketing team. Amazing car though!!!!
They dropped the ball when they bought Kia, they should have just used the name for their luxury brand and dropped all the cars which are pretty much Hyundai clones. Hopefully the Genesis along with the Santa Fe and Sonata will change people's attitude. I've got a Santa Fe and find people aren't very receptive to it even though its an awesome truck
They are going to make a luxury name for themselves. You do know that moving too fast can actually hurt the company. Hyundai makes awesome cars nowdays but the trouble is that Hyundai still has to convince people that they've changed and until then its pointless for Hyundai to make a luxury division. I say give it ten more years.
because the first time I hear about the car, I was thinking: it's still a hyundai. Of course this thought died when I look at the performance and value (but not sure about reliability and safety because the first hyundai genesis coupe got totalled in korea with no airbags deployed) yes hyundai needs to come up with a luxury brand. simply hiding the hyundai badge in the front grille of the genesis sedan doesnt help
yeah I remember seeing pictures of that crash. That was probably a first bad batch production. I dont know if there was a recall on those in korea... But regardless of the fact, it still seems like an amazing car. I actually own a tiburon and was extremely hesitant on its purchase in 07. it still runs strong, amazing mpg, never had a single problem. Maybe the reason why hyundai didnt make a new name was cause It takes new dealerships, new sales reps, and a whole new team/branch of ppl.
Hyundai is not Kia's luxury brand. Rather, Hyundai owns a chunk of Kia (36.7%). It's like saying that Porsche is the Luxury Brand of VW. It's not, they're too completely separate companies.
Yeah I don't know much about audio equipment but when I bought my ram in 2004 It came with an infiniti audio system I couldn't believe how good it sounds coming from a factory stock pickup truck.
this is a nice car, test drove the 3.8 auto trans, plenty of power. PAddle shift was neat.
the manual trans has problems right now, I think they are going to issue a tsb for it. There is shift delay...shitty..they better fix it. cuz Im going to buy one of these next year, since it looks like GM is about to take a dump.
to Tishue123 (before I call you a liar I'd like to know what state you live in and what trim of the Genesis you "got")
Quit talking shit about insurance everybody lol, if you're a guy and you're 16 YOU WILL HAVE HIGH INSURANCE if you want any coverage at all. My insurance (on a Scion tC for god's sakes) is 200 bucks a month because my parents chose super high coverage.
btw, I never want to see anybody compare this car to the RSX, nothing happened to that car it was an Acura and a slow one
Hyundai's holding value is improving and guess what dude yesterday I saw an audi with a big batmobile spoiler.. People just will do that to anything nowadays! I havent been in a 370 but I have been in a 350 and I cant see the point! they are just all hype. My Dad drives a new infinite 45 $58,000.. and you know what!? It just isnt worth that amount of money. Nissan has become about a profit Hyundai in the last ten years has become about offering a better deal at a realistic price.
helllllla gay. really nice car, but in a couple years, this is what every kid is gonna get, used gen coupes with A/T's and rice it out with big wings and fart cans and all the insurance rates for this car are gonna go uppppp!!!!
The insurance is already high on this car. Not many "kids" are going to be driving it. Why do you think you don't see a million Tiburons driving around, but you see Civics almost everywhere? Because Tiburon is severely high on insurance.
Ummmm, that's not how insurance works my friend. You might want to learn about insurance companies BEFORE you post. When an insurance company sees "2 seat sports car," they line it up against similar vehicles in a specific class, then reference crash and theft data and put it against the buyer's driving abstract and no. of tickets/accidents. So, as I said BEFORE, the insurance on this car is going to be high, right off of the lot. That's how it's going to be.
I disagree i just turned 16 and asked my dad for one and he said yes! BUT the insurance is HUGE!! i pay 510 dollars a month!! I have my first bill coming this month!
not sure what you guys are talking about, i own a 3.8L gen coupe and insurance isn't that bad, at least insurance for volvo C30 and nissan alrima coupe was much higher when i got estimate
Autospies noticed the big points of this car. 370z will outperform this car anyday. However, this car is very open for modification, as if it's built for mods. 370z, not as much. AND! This car gets 28mph highway for this power. This is the thing that's phenomenal. Dumbass ppl saying, Oh 370z's faster, mustang's faster... who cares?!? It costs less too.
i agree... i test drove the genesis and wasnt as impressed compared to my 370z test drive. for smiles and giggles i wanted to see what the monthly looked like for a brand new 370z touring and i just got disgusted!!! i cant see myself paying that much when i can get a genesis!
The thing most people forget is that this car represents a new identity for Hyundai. This could be their new luxury line, and they're only going to keep bringing out vehicles with this sort of quality and make them better as time goes on. No one can expect Hyundai to bring out their first sports car and have it annihilate every other car offered from the hardcore veterans. This is a great start, and people should see that for what it is. This is a fantastic first attempt.
It would be nice if they can lower the sixth gear, instead of riding at 70mph at 2400 rpm should be 2000. It probably would get instead of 28mpg it would get at least 30- 32mpg.
My 350Z has so many factory recalls, it isn't even funny. I doubt the Genesis would have the faulty alignnment problem that's unfixable, fake bose (clarion) stereo system, replaced it 3 times and it broke again, winow jams time to time, fixed it 3 times, stil won't work right. Nissan knows about this and other defects but will try not to fix it till your warranty runs out. But for the Genesis, I will drive it down to the ground and still be covered by warranty. Sued Nissan and won $2500.
Mazda is just like this. Horrible stereo which fizzles in and out on a hot weather. Locks that don't lock properly. It's manual locks, too, it's doesn't automatically lock when you put it into drive, which sucks. I'm talking about the basic CX-7. But the engine is great.
You gatta give some credit to this Gensis. Hyundai came a long ways and I give them the respect to come out with car that has a lot offer besides the 1/4 mile run or top speed. That's acool and all but we are not comparing this car to a Corvette Z, Viper, Labo or any other big block muscle car. It isstill a v-6 and any v-6 that can pump out over 300HP is quiet impressive. Great gas milage, ride smooth, tight, best warrant than any US, Japan or EU car companies would dare offer.
they make such a big deal about drifting in this car, you can drift easily in any manual transmission rwd car!!!!!!!! so what. And comparing this to an M3 is a joke. I driven an M3 too, and lets see how this competes on the track with a BMW. So far they are just all talk, lets see them race a real M3 and see who comes out in front. I am glad they made this car, but they are overhyping this thing way too much. This thing lost to a mustang in a drag race on motortrend.
But when the Mustang's 3/36 runs up, you'll be running to Napa every other weekend. No dumping on Mustang, I like them alot, its just that I wish our domestic manufacturers all offered a better warranty. It's all about cost these days for many folks.
I laugh at some of some of these losers that bash on the the new Genesis. I am a 350Z owner and I am about to buy this car instead. I saw it hands on today at the dealership and this car was nothing to laugh at. it is equalivent to the nissan 350 Z and I wonder to all you Genesis Coupe basher.. What do you drive? Do any of you even own a sports car? Or a car period?
i agree that its not a bad car, but i also own a 350Z, the coupe is fast, but does not feel as fast as the Z. Th Coupe is few hundred pounds heavier and has about 20 foot pounds less of torque. I am not bashing on the car, its great bang for the buck, but I am not sure how you can compare it to the Z. I have raced 2 of these cars, 3.8 v6 at the light in my 2004 Z, and i pulled away just fine. ITs more of a G35, or now the G37 competitor just for the record.
I test drove one too and it didnt feel as fast as my Z at all. It makes similar sound though which is nice=) GEnesis Coupe feels like a much bigger car, because it is a much bigger car than my Z. Bad comparison if you compare Z car to Genesis Coupe. G35 and G37 are more accurate.
You are right, Genesis Coupe is not meant for having faster driving than 350Z or 370Z also neither have strong horse power as Ford Mustang. This car is more like offering customers with tune ups and do whatever you want with this car. Also dont forget, this car is more cheapter than its competitors.
At least I will give Hyundai credit for really affordable coupe than Tiburon.
I had a chance to testdrive the coupe and this car did not feel like Hyundais that I have used to know. It feels very solid and the car encourage you to drive faster. Was I impressed with this car! This car deserves your testdrive.
i just drove my genesis coupe 5 hours to sin city! awesome!

i did not insult you. unless you own Hyundai, which i assume you dont. and you keep dragging this on and on. just cut it. move on.
elliott12591 2 years ago
Also I assume you never drive one of recent Hyundai veichles huh?
'but it's a hyundai' kind of attitude was just as same as when people thought about Japanese cars during 80s and early 90s.
Guess how turned these things today..
GM crashed, Chrysler ended, and Ford barely made it out...
Hyundai has been proving since 2000 and result is this new Genesis coupe.
kotor87 2 years ago 7
Do you know that Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X's engine is based off this Genesis Coupe's 4 cylinder 2.0T engine?
Also Mitu bought new Hyundai's sonata engine back in 2004 and developed their later cars from it.
Hyundai is not what you think it is today.
Hyundai was shit back in 80s and 90s, but this year and later... I dont think they are going to be called as piece of junk.
kotor87 2 years ago 2
The Gen coupe is a sweet ride. I can't help but think, though, that the Gen coupe and Sedan would have been automatic undisputed instant HITS if their base prices would have been about $3,000 less. A 2.0T for $19,000! The 3.8 for $22,000. They wouldn't be able to make enough...still great cars nonetheless
redboyj15 2 years ago 2
The important point is that WE CAN BUY GOOD CARS CHEAP. Thanks to Hyundai. Hyundai's used one is much cheaper though. It's a good deal for practical people.
jookyoungjo 2 years ago 5
You can waste thousand and get an inferior product if you really want to buy domestic. Personally I like the idea of a value for my money hence I'll take the imports. Americans/Canadians can't make a car to save their life.

damn if hyundai came out with a luxury name, they wouldnt get all this shit for being a hyundai. everyone else has a luxury name. volkswagon-audi, honda-acura, nissan-infinity. They would have to try so hard to prove themselves if they just had a smarter marketing team. Amazing car though!!!!
pilotdapunk 2 years ago 4
They dropped the ball when they bought Kia, they should have just used the name for their luxury brand and dropped all the cars which are pretty much Hyundai clones. Hopefully the Genesis along with the Santa Fe and Sonata will change people's attitude. I've got a Santa Fe and find people aren't very receptive to it even though its an awesome truck

"I've got a Santa Fe and find people aren't very receptive to it even though its an awesome truck"
yeah because people want a badge saying BMW and people want to pay 20,000 more...they like that.
wgaewg 2 years ago
They are going to make a luxury name for themselves. You do know that moving too fast can actually hurt the company. Hyundai makes awesome cars nowdays but the trouble is that Hyundai still has to convince people that they've changed and until then its pointless for Hyundai to make a luxury division. I say give it ten more years.
American1708 2 years ago
you read my mind, totally agree with you
because the first time I hear about the car, I was thinking: it's still a hyundai. Of course this thought died when I look at the performance and value (but not sure about reliability and safety because the first hyundai genesis coupe got totalled in korea with no airbags deployed) yes hyundai needs to come up with a luxury brand. simply hiding the hyundai badge in the front grille of the genesis sedan doesnt help
p753159 2 years ago
yeah I remember seeing pictures of that crash. That was probably a first bad batch production. I dont know if there was a recall on those in korea... But regardless of the fact, it still seems like an amazing car. I actually own a tiburon and was extremely hesitant on its purchase in 07. it still runs strong, amazing mpg, never had a single problem. Maybe the reason why hyundai didnt make a new name was cause It takes new dealerships, new sales reps, and a whole new team/branch of ppl.
pilotdapunk 2 years ago
i think hyundai is kia's luxury brand but i could be wrong
saturnfanatic 2 years ago
No Hyundai is not luxury brand like for Kia.
Both are same company(Kia was acquired by Hyundai around 2000).
But there was plan for launch the new brand within Hyundai when they developed Genesis(BH).
kotor87 2 years ago
yes, hyundai is kia's luxury brand.
wait for the new 2011 tucson. shit's amazing.

vi3tprid33 2 years ago 3
Hyundai is not Kia's luxury brand. Rather, Hyundai owns a chunk of Kia (36.7%). It's like saying that Porsche is the Luxury Brand of VW. It's not, they're too completely separate companies.
Myszakfri 2 years ago 4
like you said, people see lexus totally different from toyota. a rwd luxury performance brand vs front wheel drive family value brand.
hyundai needs a luxury brand division

Yeah I don't know much about audio equipment but when I bought my ram in 2004 It came with an infiniti audio system I couldn't believe how good it sounds coming from a factory stock pickup truck.

this is a nice car, test drove the 3.8 auto trans, plenty of power. PAddle shift was neat.
the manual trans has problems right now, I think they are going to issue a tsb for it. There is shift delay...shitty..they better fix it. cuz Im going to buy one of these next year, since it looks like GM is about to take a dump.

TsangBokyan 2 years ago
The insurance is already high on this car. Not many "kids" are going to be driving it. Why do you think you don't see a million Tiburons driving around, but you see Civics almost everywhere? Because Tiburon is severely high on insurance.
SmokinGuitar 2 years ago
the whole point is that they'll be on their parents insurance, and i dont mean now, i mean in a few years, just like what happened to the RSX.
TsangBokyan 2 years ago
Ummmm, that's not how insurance works my friend. You might want to learn about insurance companies BEFORE you post. When an insurance company sees "2 seat sports car," they line it up against similar vehicles in a specific class, then reference crash and theft data and put it against the buyer's driving abstract and no. of tickets/accidents. So, as I said BEFORE, the insurance on this car is going to be high, right off of the lot. That's how it's going to be.
SmokinGuitar 2 years ago
I disagree i just turned 16 and asked my dad for one and he said yes! BUT the insurance is HUGE!! i pay 510 dollars a month!! I have my first bill coming this month!
tishue123 2 years ago
not sure what you guys are talking about, i own a 3.8L gen coupe and insurance isn't that bad, at least insurance for volvo C30 and nissan alrima coupe was much higher when i got estimate

LZKS 2 years ago
i agree... i test drove the genesis and wasnt as impressed compared to my 370z test drive. for smiles and giggles i wanted to see what the monthly looked like for a brand new 370z touring and i just got disgusted!!! i cant see myself paying that much when i can get a genesis!
hazardos13 2 years ago
The thing most people forget is that this car represents a new identity for Hyundai. This could be their new luxury line, and they're only going to keep bringing out vehicles with this sort of quality and make them better as time goes on. No one can expect Hyundai to bring out their first sports car and have it annihilate every other car offered from the hardcore veterans. This is a great start, and people should see that for what it is. This is a fantastic first attempt.
SmokinGuitar 2 years ago 2
350Z all good, but what were we talking about.....GENESIS congrads.
Smashing9882 2 years ago
It would be nice if they can lower the sixth gear, instead of riding at 70mph at 2400 rpm should be 2000. It probably would get instead of 28mpg it would get at least 30- 32mpg.

I am looking between the Altima Coupe 3.5 and this and i really think this car is incredible,
so yea, all you bashers, visit your dealer and drive one of these, and then come back and apologize, you probably own a honda civic (mid '90's)
modena111 2 years ago 3
My 350Z has so many factory recalls, it isn't even funny. I doubt the Genesis would have the faulty alignnment problem that's unfixable, fake bose (clarion) stereo system, replaced it 3 times and it broke again, winow jams time to time, fixed it 3 times, stil won't work right. Nissan knows about this and other defects but will try not to fix it till your warranty runs out. But for the Genesis, I will drive it down to the ground and still be covered by warranty. Sued Nissan and won $2500.
metalcraze 2 years ago 4

This thing lost to a mustang in a drag race on motortrend.
vivacali84 2 years ago

Or a car period?
metalcraze 2 years ago 3
i agree that its not a bad car, but i also own a 350Z, the coupe is fast, but does not feel as fast as the Z. ITs more of a G35, or now the G37 competitor just for the record.
vivacali84 2 years ago 2
I test drove one too and it didnt feel as fast as my Z at all. It makes similar sound though which is nice=) GEnesis Coupe feels like a much bigger car, because it is a much bigger car than my Z. Bad comparison if you compare Z car to Genesis Coupe. G35 and G37 are more accurate.
vivacali84 2 years ago 3
You are right, Genesis Coupe is not meant for having faster driving than 350Z or 370Z also neither have strong horse power as Ford Mustang. This car is more like offering customers with tune ups and do whatever you want with this car. Also dont forget, this car is more cheapter than its competitors.
At least I will give Hyundai credit for really affordable coupe than Tiburon.
kotor87 2 years ago
I had a chance to testdrive the coupe and this car did not feel like Hyundais that I have used to know. It feels very solid and the car encourage you to drive faster. Was I impressed with this car! This car deserves your testdrive.

Of course its not a close to an S15. Because when that car goes into the barrier, you'll get sandwiched between the front bumper and the rear.
The genesis coupe will survive that AND be fun to drive.
