  • The 'turn off the blue light' campaign posters sort of explain a lot. Go-go- gadget sex workers!

  • A wonderfull repoly Aymi :)

    All love from me Jasmine

  • I worked sort of in the sex industry, both as an erotic dancer, and as a bar tender for a couple brothels, these people were and still are my friends, I can reconcile feminism with sex work easily despite the fact that it isn't for me, kudoes, you echo what I have heard from Legal brothel workers, but I think more needs done to legitimize it even where it is legal, far to much judgement and stigma on it to really protect the workers.

  • From all these comments I'm sad I wasn't able to hear your video. Did anyone mirror it with the sound up?

  • @sheri226 i am so sorry you could not hear. :( i know it is very low, for some reason it uploaded with this lower volume. i will put up another copy unlisted in a day or so, with the volume higher & let you and other who could not hear it, know the link to the higher volumed video. again, i'm really sorry.

    ~aymi

  • @YeOldeHeretic Thanks so much, I did watch & was able to listen to your "Full Decriminalization vs Legalization" video & not only enjoyed it but learned SO much from it. Subbed & looking forward to your work.

  • @YeOldeHeretic Thanks so much!

  • @sheri226 here is the link to the unlisted higher volume video. Again, sorry about that :) ~aymi

  • Sorry I haven't been around lately. Now I'm really here just to say; Happy new year to you ;-)

  • sex workers make the world go round. look at the naysayers.......they look like their neck threw up so of course they hate sex workers cuz they cant join the club.

  • @wideosvatcher Peoples looks have nothing to do with this arguement. ~aymi

  • Yet another word of support, from someone who always found interesting, thought-provoking stuff in your videos and who is equally dismayed at how easy it is for antis to ignore the opinions of so many of the very people they claim to want to defend. They are clearly defending simply a worldview, not actual people.

  • You go, Aymi. I love you. <3

  • I think Canada's time with decriminalization has served a very important role: it's proved, for all too see, especially we Canadians ourselves, that it isn't enough, that we need full legalization.

I personally, can not ever see myself ever thinking positively of the job that sex workers do. I STILL support full legalization.

Sex workers should have protection under the law. They deserve respect, as any other human being does.

Just because there are victims doesn't mean every sex-worker is one.

  • @PurpleGhost Hi there, I would just like to point out that Canada does not have active decriminalization as of yet.

    Laurel

  • @YeOldeHeretic *Frowns* Not any? Has it not come into effect yet?

I was quite certain that we had partiall decriminalized. That Johns could still be arrested, that for some reason soliciation 'out of a home' is illegal.

That since 'pimping' is still illegal, if a person 'pimps' themselves, that they can still be charged. (How stupid, way to make sure that all the healthy practices are sinched - personal control over ones body, ability to chose a safe location=all-out-the-window.)

  • @PurpleGhost to echo what Laurel said below, Canada does not currently have decrim. if you are interested in knowing a bit more about what the climate here in Canada is like for us take a look at some of our videos, we do go into some detail about that. Also, both myself and Laurel (my channel partner) support decrim (for sex workers & our clients) which looks very different from legalization. There is a link to a video i did about that in the low bar, as well as others on our channel. ~aymi

  • @YeOldeHeretic - I am Canadian also.

Well, full decriminalization would require that they decriminalized of almost all the things 'surrounding' sex work, including 'johns'; and no, we haven't done that. (YET! We could/should!)

I didn't say 'full' though I just said 'decrim' - I meant partial decrim. (I believe that's what we have - Though you can correct me if I'm wrong, but I was pretty sure)

When I read through some of the rulings about it, it just seemed so much like a trap.

  • @PurpleGhost we do not have partial decrim either. Although sex for money in Canada is not a law, everything surrounding it; working from your home, rented place, living off avails, communication, etc.... are all laws. I'd say we have a quazi criminal environment here in Canada. There is a case in Ontario, which is in the appeal stage by the Crown, so currently the old laws remain. ~aymi

  • My views on this: It should be legal to sell your own body. It is, after all, YOUR body. Yes, there is crime related to prostitution, but this is mostly related to trafficking people (immigration) and the fact that there is no legal alternative.

Legalization ends up making everyone working in this business safer, where they can more easily contact the proper authorities without having to fear getting into jail themselves.

  • @Shangori That said, and i'll try to say this cautiously, I would not agree with my girlfriend getting into the sex-industry (friends/family I wouldn't even care much about). Simply because on a personal level I do not think you should share your body with someone else, without affection/love.

Not that I would force my girlfriend to take a different decision, but I would make my own choice to leave her. I just wouldn't be able to cope with her decision to share her body like that.

  • Wonderful video, too many sex workers don't have a voice, and while yours may be a bit quiet, that doesn't diminish it's message. =)

  • This may come across as trivial, but the volume on this video is very low. I had to turn up my speakers all the way to BARELY hear you. Otherwise, good video.

  • @LastDespair thank you for your comment :) & i'm really sorry the volume is so low. i will try & not let that happen for the next videos. ~aymi

  • This is an awesome video - it is nice to hear someone speak on behalf of themselves when so often you (as a group) are merely spoken of.

  • @godshiva thank you very much for watching :)

  • sex workers are my only chance of getting laid

  • I just noticed this the second time I watched it, I love the canadian flag with a pot leaf on it.

  • Very good video Aymi, I'm very glad that the sex workers are taking this girl to task for her claims. I would have made a video myself but I couldn't really get my thoughts together. I think its better for her to have to deal with the people she is criticizing. I shared this video on twitter facebook and googleplus.

  • My personal experiences with the virtual sex industry (netsex/simulated sex in Second Life) were positive and fulfilling, though also quite limited in comparison to those on the street. I viewed my experiences more like a fun hobby that gave me some extra cash on the side rather than full-time employment.

Not sure what bearing it has on the discussion of the ills of the sex industry, but I definitely agree that not all sex work is degrading or harmful.. I had a lot of fun!

  • Good video, subbed!

  • If a customer did something wrong. What would the charge be if sex work was decriminalized?

  • @GodlessManitoban What charge would apply if you were on a date with someone and they did something wrong? This isn't rocket science.

  • @pfarabee

    Thanks for the cunty answer.

  • @GodlessManitoban ok, I'll ask it a different way. If you are hired to drywall someone's living room, and you go to their home and are working on the job, and they come in and punch you as hard as they can in the stomach.. what charge is filed? And here is the more important question.. does the charge somehow magically change because they employed you to perform a service for them?

  • @GodlessManitoban (cont) does it matter whether or not dry-walling someone's living room is itself a chargeable offense? Does the nature of their offense change if dry-walling is then decriminalized? Here's an "uncunty" answer to your question: It would depend on the nature of the offense, as with any other offense committed in any other situation.. but the charge would change in that if sex work is decriminalized, the offended can now safely FILE a charge without fear of arrest.

  • @GodlessManitoban Free condoms and sex toys for everyone. Or...nevermind, i'm just dreaming.

  • brilliant video.

  • Well spoken, as always.

  • Thanks for sharing. The first thing is to hear, and for that we need to have conditions where it can be heard. I hope that Heather does want to hear about various experiences and perspectives.

  • I'd rather listen to people like you, who actually work in the sex industry, over people like Heather and others who know absolutely jack shit about it... minus what they read in books or see in the media.

    Thanks for your input.

  • @tattooskin72 thank you for listening :)

  • I don't know if it was my headphones but this video wasn't loud enough. I could barely understand what was said.

  • @greenghost2008 link to the unlisted higher volume version. Sorry about that.

  • Dear Aymi & Laurel,

The irony of condemning sex-positives, strawmanning our position with the claim we think that decriminalising the sex industry will solve all the problems and accusing us of cherry picking data... IT BURNS!!! X-D

Remind me, what is the Anti Sex-Industry position again? Oh yes, potraying 'ALL' sex workers as abused victims to push their agenda and tug on our heart-strings, cherry-picking data and insisting that eliminating the sex industry will solve all of the problems!

  • Sex positive feminists say porn and prostitution are all great, sex negative feminists say its all horrible.

It would be nice if everyone stopped trying to make sweeping generalisations about such a broad industry. Lets call it what it is... an industry that is flawed and would benefit considerably from ongoing evaluation and changes to policy, like 99% of the other industries out there.

The only thing that makes the sex industry stand apart is the high level of stigma and social controversy.

  • @Wolfau5 too true. It's like branding all religious people child molestation advocates based soley on the actions of a select few church members who sexually abused children.

  • @donniegerrard @Wolfau5 except I've never heard a sex positive claim all porn is great for everyone involved in the industry. ever!

  • @xxxild Hey, xxxild, just admit that our hivemind pro-whore agenda is all about telling everyone how wonderful and perfect porn and prostitution is, because we lurve the "patriarchy"...after all, if people like Diana Boston say this sort of stuff, and she does every chance she gets, then it MUST be true. =P

  • @xxxild I would say that the person Aymi is responding to has a point that sex positive feminists are guilty of cherry picking (as are sex negative feminists).

  • Thank you for sharing this. Every time you make a video I learn something valuable.

  • Thank you Aymi! Every time we hear from you you validate my position and my experience of my own life. I cant thank you enough. It's demoralizing ( to say the least ) when I hear from supposedly enlightened, educated *women, who trash *hundreds of thousands* of people in sex work and their supporters. Thank you. Did I mention how grateful I am to even know you? <3

  • @xxxild *hugs* thank you. i am so happy to have met you. wish i was closer......

    ~aymi

  • This is a great video. Obviously Heather has chosen to lump and conflate.

The links are great. It's sad that it may take a response to such an uninformed video for people to see them.

  • It sure is weird when people tell you how you should feel.

  • great video.
