I have been playing through Alan Wake and it easily has some of the best graphics I have ever seen. I think Gears of War 2 and Uncharted 2 are also amazing, but I don't know why they get all the credit when Alan Wake is just as amazing. Actually, as far as creating wide open natural environments nothing else has done it as well as Alan Wake.
This game proves once again that great technology does NOT make a game. Alan Wake to me was the biggest disappointment in years with extremely linear tedious repetitive gameplay. It proved the makers did not even grasp the David Lynch touch either as they just made silly references to Twin Peaks but did nothing with it. The game Deadly premonition comess visually not even close to Alan Wake but has more Twin Peaks atmosphere and gameplay in its first half hour than AW and its 2 add-ons.
I think that Alan Wake is the best game on the x360, but still it hasn't sold platinum and it's sales are very low!! I have PS3, not 360, otherwise I would right away go and buy this game! Every one who have 360 go and buy this game, it's awsome!

It does not run 540p. Alan Wake uses 50 different render targets and they all combine into one image. And Textures definantely run higher than 540p, way higher. The final framebuffer resolution is indeed 720p.
God help me, the whole comments list is filled with fanboys arguing about graphics. Alan Wake is beautiful. Get over it. At the end of the day, this game will be judged by it's gameplay, narrative, and atmosphere, which from where I'm standing, looks pretty damn solid as well.
I must say that I've been waiting for this game for at least 4 years now and in 3 days it will drop straight down into my mailbox. I can hardly wait! I usually prefer ps3 over 360 but I'm glad to get a real must buy for my xbox. A very nice looking game indeed. I think the weather realism is the most important part of this engine just because its adds effectiveness to the landscape. There isn't anything texture wise that is 100% new to this engine but the realism in the weather is astonishing. Well done remedy you obviously care allot about creating this game into a unique gaming experience.

I am really disappointed in Remedy's choice to only release it for the Xbox 360, even though they have basically finished the PC version. @Tj850, nah it's a standard for ps3 games since they have to copy so much data for every level(either that or instalations) they really don't have space for anything else. plus so far story in all ps3 exclusive games was usually an afterthough since sony developers only think about making benchmarks and not games.
The whole copy data twice thing is no longer in practise, it was done when the PS3 was first launched because it was a new system and they didnt have a solution for open world games.

funny how all the sonyfanboys wine and cry about graphics that Alan Wake can't be compared to ps3 exclusives yet they omit all the time that they are all corridor games with scripted events and physics while Alan Wake is build on small sandbox style levels simillar to Bad Company with everything being made in real time from weather effects, physics to the fact that whole enviroments react to player, weather, explosions etc.(something non existing in those "great" ps3 exclusives).
All I say is this, wait till the game comes out. Microsoft is infamous for making games look really really good, then when it comes out it looks like shit. This game was built on PC, when it gets bumped to 360 chances are we will see a large degradation in terms of graphic quality.
Looks like this is the 360 title to get as close to Uncharted 2 as is hardware-wise possible. We'll see when it comes out though. Graphics only take a game so far.

People need to stop comparing Alan Wake to HeavyRain,HR is more of a interacitve movie ,button smasher,an the voice acting is terrible an has horrific controls.They made only the facial animation look top notch but all other graphics in the game look like ps2gfx making the game look visually uneven

@ORGAN1X, true. i love how phone Madison used looked like from psx game like Parasite Eve or somethin. all those fanboys claiming that Alan Wake would look better on ps3 forgot that this is the first game that will use both 360s GPUs and that means FULL 4xMSAA and those increadible lightning from the get go without ram and Xenon involvement thanks to EDram chip - something that is not possible on ps3(even game like Uncharted 2 used only 2xMSAA and only during cutscenes on main protagonists).

A very nice looking game indeed. I think the weather realism is the most important part of this engine just because its adds effectiveness to the landscape. There isn't anything texture wise that is 100% new to this engine but the realism in the weather is astonishing. Well done remedy you obviously care allot about creating this game into a unique gaming experience.

i hope the story is good. I love these 360 3rd person exclusives all about single player. Fuck multiplayer...i don't need it or care for it....they always screw me over with no splitsceen anyways.

nice graphics are nice but i'd like to see revolutionary gameplay mechanics and animations more. Still i hope this game doesn't disappoint like splinter cell conviction did- i expect an 9-9.5 at least, not a 8-8.5

I am really disappointed in Remedy's choice to only release it for the Xbox 360, even though they have basically finished the PC version. I'm stuck with (most likely) worse graphics and fewer game play mechanics, because they were afraid that people will pirate them? Bleh. Ah, whatever, I'm sure the gaming experience will still be great.

@Tj850, nah it's a standard for ps3 games since they have to copy so much data for every level(either that or instalations) they really don't have space for anything else. plus so far story in all ps3 exclusive games was usually an afterthough since sony developers only think about making benchmarks and not games.

The whole copy data twice thing is no longer in practise, it was done when the PS3 was first launched because it was a new system and they didnt have a solution for open world games.

@Jade430122 Hey man, 360 has tons of exclusives. Splinter cell conviction, forza 3, Halo, not to mention so many more. I own both systems and ps3 definetly has some kickass games of its own, MGS4, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, and so-on. I think they're both great systems and there is no point in fighting about it.

funny how all the sonyfanboys wine and cry about graphics that Alan Wake can't be compared to ps3 exclusives yet they omit all the time that they are all corridor games with scripted events and physics while Alan Wake is build on small sandbox style levels simillar to Bad Company with everything being made in real time from weather effects, physics to the fact that whole enviroments react to player, weather, explosions etc.(something non existing in those "great" ps3 exclusives).

All I say is this, wait till the game comes out. Microsoft is infamous for making games look really really good, then when it comes out it looks like shit. This game was built on PC, when it gets bumped to 360 chances are we will see a large degradation in terms of graphic quality.

Looks like this is the 360 title to get as close to Uncharted 2 as is hardware-wise possible. We'll see when it comes out though. Graphics only take a game so far.
