  • ..and Phil don't forget Pete's IMPORTANT covers album was absolutely SHIT.... so with Petes absence its personal.

  • I love Genesis. The real scandal was still not including the Stooges sooner. Their first album "The Stooges" in 1969, changed rock forever. It was a colossal one-two just a year later with the album "Fun House". Between these two albums with songs like 1969, Down on the Street, 1969, 1970, Gimme danger, I wanna be your dog and Dirt, in just two years, they laid the foundation of punk, and pretty much finished it too.

So yah, thanks for nothing you tools for waiting 41 years.

  • Genesis: best band ever or tied with Rush who have been eligible for 11 years if you want to count when their first album cam out or 17 years if you want to count when they officially formed. What criteria does the R&R HoF use? Anyway, Rush should be next.

  • mike rutherford looks great, barely ages.

  • you wont get that prick gabriel there, too busy with his COVERS album.....sad twat.

  • Where's kiss and pat benatar? TOO many great REAL rock bands not in this club and have a pop act like abba in it,

  • @DavePerry2012

Genesis had some songs that could be classified as pop but they're certainly more prog than pop.

  • ....and the "Controversial" ABBA? HUH?

  • @rocktenniscat They mean that ABBA was a controversial choice.

  • Comment removed

  • Not sure why they'd be controversial. I don't own any of their music, and I'm not really a fan. BUT, they are talented, and they've written some pretty good songs. Me, I'm more of a Stooges, Mott the Hoople type!

  • @rocktenniscat She wasn't a natural blonde

  • yep, cause they're no real Rock band. I

  • the hall of fame is a farce..it is based on artistic opinion..rather than stats...record sales...groups like Chicago and Three dog night should be there.... there should be a veterans committee to put in some old groups like baseball does it....a panel of hall of fame artists should have a say of who goes in..

  • @skipdillard I'd agree about Three Dog Night.

  • at last! Genesis!!!!!!!!!! I hope Gabriel's era get promoted to the Hall

  • YAY ABBA!!!!!

  • Heck yeah,I'm extremely happy that genesis and The Stooges finally made it and so did The Hollies,it's about damn time for them to be in,I didn't think Genesis or the Stooges were gonna be,I tho. they were gonna be snubbed once again, but this extremely awesome, damn been a big time fan of both those bands. Thanks for making it finally.Def. a better class for long awaited inductees this year.

  • J GEILS BAND! Until then this sham organization can go screw

  • LOVE J Geils Band. Good mention alreadytaken334.

  • Rush should have gotten in by now too.

  • How the hell does KISS not get in this year? Bunch a bullshit !

  • I'm glad Genesis are finally being inducted. They deserve it. They were one of the best progressive rock bands and went on to become one the best mainstream bands, and wrote and played great music all along the way. I've been a fan of the bands', Peter's and Phil's since first hearing Watcher Of The Skies in 1972. Congradulations to Genesis.

  • @catmann3 And just who are the Stooges anyway? Never heard of them...

  • You don't know the Stooges..whaat...? So you dont know anyting about the history of rock n roll, then? What do you listen - Only Mozart ?

  • @agooTV Who the hell are the Stooges?

  • The Stooges were a proto-punk band of the early '70s, led by Iggy Pop. They only released 3 studio albums, but like the MC5 and New York Dolls, they were very influential on the punk movement that exploded in New York and London in 1976.

  • @SirAtkins (facepalm) Do your homework! they were one of the most influential bands of the 70's.

  • This comment was posted by a Britney Spears fan obviously.

  • The rock hall of fame, what a distorted way to say who is better or who's got better qualifications in order to be a good musician, and then who decides ? The masses or just a few tasteless hungry ignorant people who get paid by those who want to be there ... AHH! Whatta...

  • This woman is silly and crazy. Ah, ABBA is the greatest selling group since the Beatles : 375 millions copies.

ABBA is timeless, like anybody else.

Are Michael Jackson or Madonna rockers?

  • OK, Genesis. Now it's time to bring in the equally great Moody Blues, Yes, Jethro Tull, Rush and ELP.

  • @kingfisher1031 Add, kiss. Pat benatar,BTO, and many more. Put rock bands in not POP bands or change your name to Pop band hall of fame

  • Genesis are now just the second progressive rock band in the Hall of Fame after Pink Floyd. When PF got in, Roger Waters didn't show up and Syd Barrett didn't go as well but David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright attended and accepted. Steve Hackett already stated he'll be there as will be Tony, Mike and Phil (Peter Gabriel we have no clue). Phil Collins may not play drums as he's still recuperating from spinal surgery which has rendered his right hand useless at the moment.

  • Why is ABBA being inducted controversial? The Hall has inducted other pop artists. From the mid 70s to beginning of the 80s ABBA was the dominant force in pop music everywhere in the world except the USA. They were one of the supergroups of the 70s. Their record sales are just behind the Beatles and Elvis. Their music passed the test of time. The ABBA Gold compilation put out in the early 90s went #1 in the UK charts a couple years back for god's sake. Their induction is a no brainer.

  • OK first of all, ABBA was pretty popular in the USA. And secondly, ABBA was not the most popular group in every other nation in the world. I'm pretty sure most of the nations outside of the Eurosphere had their own dominant pop music forces.

  • Obviously I'm being general when I say everywhere in the world. But if you examine their impact in South America, Asia, African, Europe (including the USSR) they were clearly the preeminent international pop music act of the 70s. Their success in the USA was minor in comparison to their stature as an international pop group.

  • Of course you're being general. They were HUGE in the western world, not so much everywhere else like you think.

  • @soulman386 IT is called the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME it should be rock bands not POP groups I am sure there a great act , but there not RocknRoli

  • yes, you are correct. I'm happy for Genesis & The Stooges, but upset for other that should not have been over looked.

  • Granted, but they wouldn't be where they are today without Peter in the beginning. I just think their most creative and groundbreaking work happened when Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett were in the band...by the mid-80's, they were a pop group; something you hear in your dentist's office.

  • If Peter Gabriel joins them on stage, I'll be happy. If Peter Gabriel AND Steve Hackett play with Genesis, I'll be REALLY happy. If Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett play with Genesis and they play "Back in NYC," I just might have a heart attack.

Most likely, however, Steve won't be there, and Peter will bow out at the last minute, and they'll end up playing "I Can't Dance" or some shit like that.

  • extreme ditto :)

  • I can't say for sure, but I would imagine both Hackett and Gabriel would be there(and maybe even Anthony Phillips, Darryl Steurmer, and Chester Thompson).

My bet is on them playing "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" at the induction ceremony.

  • I do have the same perception, you are right, there is something between and among the Genesis classic line up, and after being a fan of the Hackett-Gabriel era I've come to the conclusion that only they know and only them, what keeps them away and far away from e reunion, other bands have made it, and these guys keep saying the same thing for the last 30 years, that they like eachother they love each other that they would be happy of a reunion, and unfortunately I don't buy that either ...

  • My favs were Trick of the Tail and Selling England by the Pound.

  • Their 70s stuff is some of the best rock music ever recorded

  • Okay, you're right. So I'll put it this way - I like Genesis up until "...And Then There Were Three". I don't really like their music after that, aside from a few songs.

  • Don't get me wrong, Genesis is one of my all-time favorites, but the Genesis of the 80s was not the same band as the Genesis of the 70s. I love 70s Genesis, I'm not so big on 80s Genesis.

  • I do not understand why brilliant rock artist are constantly being ignored for pop & rap that have nothing to do with RnR. They have their place in the world & I'm not putting them down, but not in the RnRHoF. I'll admit to being upset about my RHCP, but how did Madonna get to be a part of this (& very swiftly ) when rock pioneers from the 50's & 60's haven't recieved their due yet? This place is a big joke. RHCP & Steive Ray Vaughn next year 2 redeem yourselves.

  • FINALLY, the Stooges, yes. I'm still amazed at the crap that the Rock Hall decides on though. I'm not a big Kiss fan, but their contributions to RnR cannot be denied & the guy's certainly deserve their spot in the Rock Hall. WTF, this sucks. How long will it take for my beloved RHCP to make the cut? ; Sometime after they run out of rappers to induct ? Get with the program or just rename it the Hall of Crap.

  • yes genesis! but the moody blues still aren't in?!

  • I'm very happy for genesis I think among the prog rock groups they didn't have that bad of a line up change pretty much the core guys and their sound has always been consistant

  • If one were to go through Genesis back catalogue from the Gabriel Era to the Collins Era, there is no question they deserve to be inducted as does ABBA. KISS should have been as well, but I am absolutely certain they will eventually, as with RHCP.

Just because you are not a fan of a band, doesn't diminish the importance that band may have played.

And, IMO, R&R Hall of Fame doesn't mean R&R it means a wide variety of music since everything "more or less" spawned off from R&R.

  • its a joke the r&r hall of fame is just a joke. its not the pop hall of fame its not the rap hall of fame its not the reggae hall of fame. KISS!!!!

  • why ABBA?

  • I love KISS and do think they deserve to be inducted, but Genesis also deserves the nod. Before they became a crappy 80s synth-pop group, they were one of the best of the early 70s progressive rock period.

  • *Before they became a monster 80's stadium selling show, they were a struggling band in transition after their fearless leader quit on them.

  • I do realize that most of us would have never heard their good early stuff if not for their foppish later stuff.

  • Genesis isn't a pop band?

  • About time The Stooges made it! But really, no KISS!?! Fuck you R&R Hall of Shame!

  • No Alice Cooper either !!! You're right it's a joke......
