  • They should have shut the caller down in the first few seconds when he called conviction based on demonstrable evidence a "belief" rather than knowledge. It's interesting that he calls them "true believers", belying the fact that he ironically recognizes that being a mere believer is a WEAK POSITION. (And yet he's unwilling to listen to the fact based explanation for the acceptance of a position). It's called 'dramatic irony' when the character is unconscious of his own ironic absurdity.

  • @LucisFerre1 well put

  • Every species is a "transitional form" from what they used to be to what they will be if they survive into the future. The idea that something needs to be half horse and half dog is imbecilic.

  • It's always the stupid that think they know the most.

  • I can't BELIEVE creationism is taught in places that are recognized as "academically reputable" example, Bob Jones "University" because it isn't one...

  • the creationist didnt have one chance lol

  • 38 people are retarded.

  • @Callirgos1 Think, you meant to say religious....it's okay though, I can see how that is an easy error to make :]

  • I don't think rover and spot would be able to reproduce . . .

  • @Whoknowsuknow All types of dogs can reproduce however if the Bitch/dam is much smaller than the male dog the whelping can be very problematic. Hope that makes things clear :)

  • 38 hardcore mainline creationist douchebag turdnugget neandertals hated this video

  • Rover and Spot!

  • Video should be called... dumbass who doesn't listen and thinks he knows everything so why the fuck does he even ask vs. Carl Sagan.

  • "You got this theory with gaping holes in it". If a creationist doesn't show me a picture of themselves during every year of their life, I might just tell them that they didn't grow up from childhood because they can't provide more transitional forms. It's a nice accusation they throw out there but it's nonsense.

  • I LOVE that he brings up Pontius Pilate! That's such a good way of getting on the creationists level and trying to make him listen

  • I see the loony stalker TempIarLeonem has now chosen me as a target. Google TempIarLeonem, you will see an entry by the username TemplarLeonrm complaining to YT about the imitation and impersonation, as well as page after page of the impostor TempIarLeonem's harassment and insane rants.

Because I saw them do this and called them on it, now they stalk me, claiming I am their earlier victim. They can do this with the subscription option. Be sure to block them, as I now have. Notify YT of abuse.

  • it's just all too common when watching youtube videos to see the same old creationist arguments time and time and time again. I just wonder, if every creationist were forced to sit and listen to all the debates on youtube, would we finally see the end of this repetitive questioning? I mean, this sound byte must be years old, and yet, thanks to ignorance, even today, the same questions are asked.

  • @Andre1a,

Check out the Wikipedia entries on "abiogenesis", et cetera. While certainly not 'the last word', they provide a good introduction to concepts which far preceed even your enquiry.

PS: "AmericansforFreeIran" is a cyber stalker, sick old word fetishist geek homosexual retired college instructor. Beware.

  • Hi, my name is Bob Owens, and I sit on the Council of Foreign Relations. We are currently planning a shield around Iran as well as around Israel of a passive nature. It is intended to detect any movement of military or suspected military devices from Israel with a vector towards Iran, to keep the kikes from hurting our blessed friends in the Iranian government. We will go live with postings if / when we detect a legitimate movement. Long live the Iranian mullahs. Death to Israel.

  • Yosymitiesam1- that's not evolution.

    That's vaccination and diet.

Evolution is a theory that raises some very interesting questions. To blindly not question it is no different a fundamental ignorance than that ascribed to literalist Christians.

  • I might sound stupid, but I rather get out of my ignorance xD

I didn't get it, how, then, we got from asexual to sexual reproduction?

  • Comment removed

  • Caller sounds like a young Michael Shermer when he believed in that nonsense too :P

  • Kibo, why would you think we stopped evolving? A small example would be to look at the average height in the 1800's as compared with today.

  • Like most creationists that caller has no intention of seeking an answer. When faced with evidence he simply closes his eyes and hums to avoid it. In talking with people and doing 20 years of research i haven't meet one creationist that can explain or defend there beliefs in a rational mater. People are still evolving today, were taller and smarter than we were just a few hundred years ago.

  • WHY ARE THERE ZERO ANIMALS IN THE MIDDLE OF EVOLVING INTO SOMETHING ELSE??????

  • @sngncwby how do you know that.. have you observed a species for at least a thousand years?

  • @sngncwby This is going to blow your mind. Everything is evolving into other things all the time. The changes only happen between generations. Who knows what humans will evolve into. We could have multiple branches of species come from us in the next few million years.

  • profouuuundddddly verified

  • Saying that evolution is wrong sounds just as stupid as saying 2+2 does not equal 4. You sound like a moron and clearly have a sever lack of understanding of the evolution concept, and in the example you would need to revisit your elementary math. Yes! evolution is as clear as 2+2. Not as simple as the math but as obvious once you understand it.

  • I love how he doesn't let the guy interrupt him....

  • I wish more people would listen and quote Carl Sagan that some douche claiming that Jesus and Religion are different..

  • I hate that creationist, he wasted 4:45 min of Carl´s life, wich was already way too short!

  • Carl Sagan is a one-of-a-kind hero. I wish he were still alive so I had a chance, no matter how extremely small, to shake his hand and pick his brain for an hour.

  • Why did he even bother...

  • Evolutionists have to understand that the creationist caller and many many millions of others were told at three years old by their parents what they had to believe in and children believe their parents. In some places in the world they are told that they must grow up to become suicide bombers, the ultimate child abuse. In the USA the fundamentalist christian parents tell their kids that the bible is 100% FACT and the world was created by god about 6 thousand years ago., stupid ,but not so bad.

  • Dispelling ignorance one creationist at a time

  • i like carl sagan cause he has a calming passion in his in his voice. he does not take joy in the argument but states the truth. unlike most modern day atheist celebrities.

  • Oh no! He's answering my question, better ask another before he answers it!

  • Creationists say the same idiotic things every single time!!! There are many many examples of intermediate fossils. Not to mention recent discoveries of living species in transition....reptiles with FEATHERS for example. With each passing year Evolution is shown to be FACT and for those of us who understand it....it has been a fact for a long time now...

  • There seems little point in trying to convince true believers of any scientific fact, but it is fun to poke at them. SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS! ALL gods and ALL supernatural phenomena are MYTH!

  • They can't listen--they don't want to listen--as soon as you start explaining--they interrupt and jump off to some other objection.

  • Thank god for Carl Sagan ;)

  • The problem with the callers premise of 'no transitional fossils' is that when they DO FIND a clear transitional fossil, between two other already found fossils, suddenly creationists insist on the two new transitions between these, when we find one, they demand to see two more which fill the new gaps. You could find a billion fossils, showing a clear transition, but they will always demand to see the next billion which fill the even smaller gaps made.

  • Carl Sagan's voice is smoother then buttered velvet.

  • Dear Reality

You can have all the creationists, flat earthers, astrologists, geocentrists, palm and tarot readers, faith healers, televagelists, ghost hunters, new agers, young earthers, 9/11 truthers, the list goes on, but you can have them all in return for Carl Sagan. I know it's not really a fair trade but the world would be much better off without them and getting Carl back would make the world a much better place.

  • I want that picture @ 3:46 in a HD wideshot to frame on my wall.

  • I'm both a believer in god and in science. I don't have a problem with god, I just have a problem with the religions associated with it. Complete misrepresentations of what god really is. I believe that many religions skew the words of Jesus to favor them so that they may have control over people. They tell them that anyone who tells them otherwise is wrong and that they are the only voice of reason.

  • @JAGIDTechNewsReviews You must hold a great deal of cognitive dissonance then. God and Science are in direct contradiction.

  • @AsSomedayItMayHappen I assure you my cognitive ability's are quite functional. I don't wish to start a argument, I was only stating my point of view. Its true that "God" didn't create humanity out of nowhere, and is probably not involved in everyday things as so many religions believe. But Iv'e come to the conclusion that the entire known universe, (I'm not saying it is) could be a computer simulation running in some lab. Bet I sound crazy now.

  • @AsSomedayItMayHappen But think about it. There would be no way to test if this were true or untrue. We would never be aware if it were in fact true, and our entire universe could be manipulated by adjusting some simple variables. I'm not saying that this would be a system running on traditional computers that we know of today. It would be a verry complex system beyond our knowledge. In that case the "person" responsible for maintaining the system would be "God"

  • @JAGIDTechNewsReviews You've conceded that there's no way to prove whether or not such a being exists. If there's no way of being able to know, then an appropriate response would be "I don't know."

If you don't have a good reason to believe in something, then you shouldn't believe in it.

  • There is a simple answer to the claim that "science has never discovered a transitional fossil. A creature evolving from species to another". Short answer: Every single fossil is a transitional fossil. Every living being is a transitional creature, from what came before it, to what comes after it. Evolution is not a singular event where life-form evolves in to something else all of a suddenly, and we were supposed to find a fossil record of that instant. It doesn't work that way.

  • Nowhere in the bible does it say the world is only a few thousand years old. Where do people get this crap?

  • @Adeptmind Lookup on Youtube- Discovering Religion: Ep 02 - Young Earth. It will lay out the time table (skip to a few seconds before minute 6 if you are very impatient).

  • @furtim1 I don't trust youtube videos. If you have a link to a bible verse, then cool. Otherwise it's just someone's ridiculous interpretation.. like people that say the bible says god created everything in 6 days. That's also false since, if I recall correctly, the original translation was not "day" it was "period of time" which was undefined. And besides that, it was from genesis, a book that was a giant metaphor

  • @Adeptmind The video I reccomended cites verse. "Day" is not defined as sime unknown "period of time". There are numerous references in Genesis and throughout the bible - the video I reccomended cites - that define a day as the rising and setting of the sun. The Sabbath, that "day" god rested, is a day, not an undisclosed period of time. If Genesis is not to be taken literally, that has great implications for the "second Adam", original sin, attonement, Jesus paying for our sins, etc.

  • @furtim1 We will have to agree to disagree on the implications of Genesis being a metaphor. Just because those are stories meant to represent the progression of those things, doesn't change the meaning of them a great deal imo. But that's why my beliefs are not based on any single religion or book. As with any stories.. there are multiple sides and multiple perspectives. Usually the only truth you can find is where they all agree. I have found many agreements in them all including atheism

  • @Adeptmind "We will have to agree to disagree on the implications of Genesis being a metaphor"

I don't see how we can. If genesis didn't actually happen, then "the fall of man" didn't actually happen. If "the fall" didn't take place, there is no original sin. If there is no original sin, there's nothing to be "saved" from. If there is nothing to be "saved" from, then the entire new testament is pointless.

  • @ScientificBob That is exactly why we have to agree to disagree. But you are a troll in the fact that you refuse to even do that. See what you fail to understand is that something can be both true in the metaphorical sense and false in the literal sense. Let's use Starship Troopers as an example. That movie would be considered a satire.. meaning it is portraying things that are true.. but doing so in a metaphorical way to get the point across. This is just one example, it's not rocket science

  • @Adeptmind "That is exactly why we have to agree to disagree"

Actually, that is exactly why you should be questioning the validity of the entire religion.

"you refuse to even do that" No. If genesis is bullocks, then the religion is senseless. And surprise, surprise, that's one of the reasons why I'm not a christian. I don't see why you should make up excuses and 'agree to disagree' - just so you can accomodate for your a priori belief. It's a stupid thing to do, tbh.

  • @ScientificBob No.. it's called maturity. I'm not going to sit here and explain my opinion in limited characters on youtube. But I understand that is how trolls like you get your jollies off. In my opinion (and many scientists, professors, and world famous scholars throughout history) you just flat out wrong. And you DON'T agree with me.. yet you won't let this go (TROLL). You are so fearful of god you need me to admit that you are right so you will feel better. Get a life, I feel sorry for you

  • painful

  • "Short sighted creationist" is some kind of oxymoron

  • Wow! Dr. Sagan, you are truly missed!

  • How long ago did this broadcast take place?

Sagan has no idea what he is talking about. The fossil record "stasis and sudden appearance quotes" are endless, and molecular biology has destroyed Darwin's tree of life. The predicted phylogenetic relationships are a mangled mess.

And the conserved (can not evolve) elements have thoroughly falsified Darwinian evolution. Most proteins are incapable of evolving. The ribosomes are 100% conserved in all species.

  • @toobsucker

So how do you explain the fossil record?

  • @toobsucker "All species appear fully developed"

    Evolution doesn't predict otherwise.

  • @ScientificBob

Google and watch "The great debate what is life" on the science network

This symposium took place in Feb 2011. Craig Venter had to school Dawkins who stilled believe the tree of life was valid.

Venter politely told Dawkins "The tree of life is not holding up as predicted". Atheism's high priest had no idea the tree of life was dead.

I think evolutionists do not study the problems in fear their dogma of naturalism will fall apart

  • @toobsucker I also think it's quite funny that you posted the exact same message on other youtube vids as well. Fucking moron.

Venter is not a creationists and he sees no problems at all with evolution theory.

Is there discussion about details? OFF COURSE. Science doesn't stand still.

    Dumbass.

  • @toobsucker you cannot quote craig venter to support your case when he is a bold proponent of evolutionary theory

  • Comment removed

  • @toobsucker "molecular biology has destroyed Darwin's tree of life"

Read something other then creationist propaganda please. You have no idea how ridiculous that statment is.

  • @ScientificBob "You have no idea how ridiculous that statment is"

This is why I.D. proponents want to "teach the controversy" in schools. Darwin's tree of life being annihilated is old news and only those that study the problems are aware.

"Is It Time to Uproot the Tree of Life?" by Elizabeth Pennisi

HGT is being used as the excuse

There is a plethora of information I can't post here refuting Darwin's tree of life, I suggest you study it if your going to debate this topic

  • @toobsucker ""Is It Time to Uproot the Tree of Life?" by Elizabeth Pennisi"

    LOL!!

Did you bother to read the whole article and those related to that?

It sounds like you didn't. In fact, it's quite clear that you didn't.

Funny how Pennisi doesn't see this as an issue for evolution theory AT ALL.

See, that's what creationtards do... they take scientific information and misrepresent it.

"Darwin's tree of life" That was 200 years ago. Welcome in the 21st century.

  • @ScientificBob "Funny how Pennisi doesn't see this as an issue for evolution theory AT ALL."

"Scientific" Bob, try to stay within the actual statements I made. I said Darwin's tree of life, I did not say evolution.

Hence the name of the article "Is It Time to Uproot the TREE OF LIFE?"

You fail to understand the main prediction for evolution is the phylogenetic relationships matching, They DO NOT match.

  • @toobsucker So toobsucker do you believe a divine entity created everything?

  • @rembrant1vanryn

I'M logged in as both toobsucker and IDSience. and IDSience has the priority

  • @IDScience Okay so why do you think a divine omnipotent, omnisient entity would create us?

  • The man was one of a kind, a genius and a true inspiration, still is.

  • Sounding clever means you have the answers. Those fossils with evolving limbs are so numerous. Carbon dating is the best form of calculating history. McDonalds is the most nutritious food on the plannet and should be eaten at every meal. Humanity is the name of a large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammal sometimes known as a sea cow. Cheese is best eaten at room temperature. Beer makes you grow taller. Children born after 2010 have larger I.Q. than any known people alive

  • damn!!! I wanted to hear all of his answers!!!

  • If we atheists one day convert Scientific Method as our guide of Morality and call it (for the lack of better word) - scientific religion, Carl Sagan is going to be one of our Saints!

  • Anyone else think he kinda sounds like Howard Stern?

  • If there is a God, its Carl Sagan ! :)

  • this retard won't listen to the great answers carl sagan has to offer. :( i would like to hear all the answers.

  • Religion is toxic. Knowledge is power. Peace

  • @EattherichBuddy Kabaaam.

  • @TheCDabs Thank you. Peace

  • What an awesome man. He was smart as hell, was very well spoken and insightful, had such an awesome voice, and smoked weed every day. You can't beat a G like that.

  • Carl Sagan, Natural Selection at it's finest!!!

  • man he looks annoyed at the photographer at 4:05 lol

  • Carl Sagan was very good with children and earnestly interested in their education, as is evidenced by this call.

  • I still watch an episode of 'cosmos' now and again.

    great stuff.

    RIP Mr Sagen

the world has lost a great man

  • Ugh I'm sure IF, read IF god exists, and there is a "heaven" and "hell", when Carl died, he went to heaven... I think "god" "sees" past people's views.. He's good... And when I die, I hope I end up WHEREVER he went or did not go... I want to talk to him so bad, and I'm sure billions and billions of others do too. ;)

  • @M5000thesdgversion i can think of nobody i would have rather met. Growing up watching cosmos, his inspirational words have no doubt changed my perspective of life for the better.

  • @M5000thesdgversion You will go exactly where Sagan went when he died, it is the place where we all come together... in the ground.

  • @M5000thesdgversion yes, i want to be there too, if carl is there then its ok. ;)

  • Sagan was a very noble man. Look at what the Carl Sagan foundation does for humanity. This was a man whose goodness ranged from making humanity a better race through hard, honest work, to simpler things, like taking his time to argue with someone who never took THEIR time to read a 10th grade science book, but who took PLENTY of time to learn some young-earth creationist's arguments like a tape recorder. This is what I call having patience...

  • @MarlosZappa lmaoooo

  • @MarlosZappa the more i listened the video the more I agreed with you.

  • Is it just me, or did he completely walk around the question?

The question was "How do you explain the switch from asexual reproduction to sexual reproduction?". What he did explain is that evolution works, but didn't answer the question at all.

  • @KeistasZmogelis that is because there is no simple answer, it is one of the very few things evolution by natural selection has not been able to fully explain. What carl was saying is by no means does this falsify the fact.

  • @88Cardey What he should have said i that case is "I don't know",

  • The man is a legend, and his words will not be forgotten for a very long time.

  • i wish he was still here. i want to meet him :(

  • Listening to Dr.Carl talk to this idiot and not get frustrated really is inspiring to me. I an atheist and I live in Georgia, meaning that I am surrounded by creationists. I want to be more patient like Dr. Carl and not stoop to their level of ignorance. Way to go Doc, we miss you

  • Ever so patient. That man was -pardon the expression- a saint. Miss you Sagan.

  • Sagan was brilliant, he should have known better than to bother with this idiot.

  • @skywize Sagan knew better, which is exactly why he bothered. Consider that so many people where listening who might themselves have been confronted with dishonest creationist arguments. Hearing Sagan take such care to give a good answerwill inspire them to follow the path of reason themselves.

If you do not take the time to talk with people who disagree, you might be part of the problem ;)

  • @farmandmao

I agree with you to a point. You see, the caller CLEARLY already has his mind made up. It's HIGHLY unlikely he's going to change his mind any time soon in spite of OVERWHELMING evidence! If, on the other hand, he had good listening skills and was at least open to learning something, by all means discuss it with him. Like the host himself said, he called in specifically to do battle (unproductive). So why even bother with him? However, I GENERALLY agree with your assertion.

  • @vancouvermild Hey Thanks. I will hear that while I do the dishes. :)

BTW dont put yourself down in respect to patience. You were patient with me at least. Its different, I know, but still.

And Atheist Experience is nice yes. :)

  • @farmandmao Ok, agreed.... I watch the Atheist Experience every Sunday, so I do understand where you are coming from. I would not personally have the patience. Props to whoever does.

  • @skywize

I agree! It's like trying to talk over a barking dog. You see, that idiot already possesses preconceived notions of his religion. He's angry when someone tries to shed like on reality - which the idiot caller finds threatening to his world view. He's obviously not too bright! Sagan, on the other hand - BRILLIANT! That idiot shouldn't even have the privilege of taking to such a world-renowed scientist as Sagan!

  • 32 people are just plain dumb.

  • We have dogs for taking care of babies?

  • I like how Carl Sagan is like "If you gonna pull that christian trick where you interrupt us before we can actually answer your damn question I'm outa here, I have better things to do"

  • But where did Spot and Rover come from in the first place and where did the first dog originate.? What did wolves mate with to produce the first dog, very few dags have wolf like qualities, yet we have so many varieties of dog.

  • @TheDano1947 Where did the first ___ originate? would be a better question. And scientists know the connections between now extinct species and species we have now.

  • @TheDano1947 Wolves changed gradually over time.

  • @TheDano1947 wolves mated with other wolves but they were selected ones....( carefully selected ones by man) to produce the traits man wanted

  • @TheDano1947 All these questions and more can be answered by any high school biology textbook printed in the last 100 years, try doing some of your own research if you actually want to know the answer, or if you are trying to convince people away from evolution you're going to have to find a much dumber crowd than a Carl Sagan video will produce.

  • Can you imagine getting the chance to talk to a man as profoundly brilliant as Carl Sagan...and INTERRUPTING HIM?!

  • "If you don't buy 4 billion years, you don't buy evolution."

And if you don't buy 4 billion years, you must believe that your beloved, perfectly good God is deceiving you, lying to you, by putting all these damned fossils here, and creating genomes that show clearly how life changed from one form to another over time.

  • Just a comment about YouTube commenting: fights always break out due mostly to name calling. Once you tell someone "FU, u don't know what your talking about", you've effectively killed any chance for a meaningful debate. It shows that you've run out of ideas and need to take a breather. A point about creationism vs evolution: Neither side is going to change their minds. Sagan nailed it when he said that you have to believe the universe is 6 billion years old if you're going to believe evoluti

  • if i was Sagan, 10 seconds in i would have been like, "SHUT THE FUCK UP"

  • @dopeasfuckk yeah. because you are arrogant kid.

  • @valtonen77 Arrogant is the wrong word, more like patient. I could not listen to a retard ramble on about nothing for that long

  • @valtonen77 you ignorant mutt.

  • carl sagan pwns!

  • seems like there are fewer and fewer heroes left in the world...this frightens to the point of finding it hard to sleep anymore...seems like we are plunging downstream towards the edge of an abyss we cannot come back from...and the point of no return is just around the corner...I hope with all my heart I am wrong!!!!

  • @Metamorphosis33 BUT WUTT ABOUT SNOOKIE, SHES A HERO!!! .... jk i feel yah man..

  • The man bearing the pitcher of water, totally gives away the astrological part of the bible.Of course, Moses having everyone killing everyone else also gives it away. They were worshiping the cow(Taurus),the last age,and it was time to move into the age of Pisces(JESUS)! Aquarius is the next age,so I guess Jesus will finally die in the next Zodiac age.

  • I always like how ppl.,take the BIBLES literally,.The Old Testament alone destroys any credibility the New Testament has. New: hell is literally created,Old:their is no hell. Old: God is a FUCKING prick! New: God creates a son to clean up his image. Not to mention Jesus was stolen from so many before him.Don't forget the flat earth theory! Just read the King James version,it's as good as all the others forced on humanity to control the masses.I hate being from a time,I'm just to smart for.
