  • i was wondering are daggers illegal to carry or do they have to be a certain length?

  • i like to camp and i like swimming so i was looking around for a good aqua-knife that i can strap to my ankle while swimming, etc.....thing is, i dont like the double-edge....very unpractical (ithink) in camping/survival situations.....do you know of any other knives that is boot/ankle strap-able, highly water-resistant and clip/bowie/drop point knife?

  • Any way this could be adapted to wear horizontally in the small of your back? I'd prefer to carry a fixed blade but I don't like having it ride up high on either side, the handle usually pokes me in the ribs.

  • If you have two of something or any type of fixed blade can I have one I don't care which or what I'll tell you my address

  • a buck 105 is my edc... gotta love the southwest

  • Would these be any good for taking bark Off trees???

  • considering getting this puppy. just wondering, would it be okay to throw? kinda looks like it, but im not sure.

  • Good review

Why does everyone want a cheaper knife

It doesn't matter if you review a $20 gerber

The cheapskates always want to find something cheaper

You get what you pay for

Yes you can find better deals on the same knife

And that's usually thru the Internet

  • Is there a poor man's version of this knife-that you know of? (decent quality of course) I like the design it just seems to be a bit pricey for my taste.

  • @4thatdude1 If you look around, you can get a pakistani mini version of the British comando knife with one edge serrated. a little longer than this but a lot cheaper, and the quality of the craftsmanship is pretty good.

  • @4thatdude1 reply to me and I'll tell you about a pretty good company for poor man's knives. I tried to send you a reply on here; but I think Youtube deleted it because they thought it was spam. I have no affiliation with that company; but I have bought a metric buttload of knives from them. Some are brand names like Cold Steel, and some are just really cheap, like $2.00. or less.

  • @YoungBrave2006 Cool. If you could send me like, the name of that mini commando, then that sounds great. And the company name would be a great help also. I just don't want to spend $65 on a knife for what I would be using this knife for. Thanks so much!

  • Which knife would you recommend between this one and the Cold Steel Counter Tac 2?

  • do you think its worth the money for tiger stripe

  • is it aginst the law to cary it in florida or not tnx sorry for spelling

  • The sheath is awfully large

  • Would this be a good blade or would you recommend the sypderco dragonfly for EDC tasks?

  • have you ever been in a knife fight?

  • ive had this knife for a long time and could never figure out how ud latch it into your boot... please help.... where and how do you tie it on to ur boot at?

  • @DaBossk

Old comment, but just clip it to the side of your boot.

  • anyone have any idea where i can get the old model that was made in seki japan not taiwan

  • hey where do u shop for your sog knives? i think i want to buy a mini pentagon, but when i looked at their website it was $85. plz reply

  • @OWNmeansPWN

Amazon has it listed at $48.00 with free super saver shipping.

  • New graham says this knife is AUS6, do they make different ones? and how is AUS6 compered to AUS8?

  • same as 440C compares to 440A, same steel family but slight difference in make up, AUS6 will be a bit softer than AUS8 and not hold an edge as long..I got my specs from SOG's website, I would probably go with their info...but no ones perfect, I could have flubbed it a bit and read it wrong?

  • @cutlerylover

Oh ok, thanks for writin back with the info man =]

But i doubt you flubbed it man, there may be 2 different steel variations. Like the Griptilian coming in 154CM and in D2. But more then likely New graham made the mistake. Thanks again.

  • np, and your right, many models have different versiosn with different steel...

  • @cutlerylover hey i was wondering if aus6 was more corrosion resistant than aus8 since its has a lower carbon content?

  • @JosephNowhere

awesome! thanks for the info bro :)

I'll go check it out right now

  • Looks very similar to the Gerber Guardian Back Up.

Now i don't know which to get :S

    This or the Gerber

  • @davidJR

I would also check out the Kershaw ZT its just like the Gerber Guardian as well. Just comes in different colors.

  • @davidJR Id recommend the gerber, but thats just my opinion.

  • doesnt knife mean 1 edge blade but this has 2 edges so shouldnt it be a dagger

  • a dagger is a style of knife if you want to be specific, but yes according to law a double edges knife is a dagger and if one full edge is sharop and half of the other edge is sharp its a stiletto...

  • got this knife for my birthday cause i was going back to grayling,ak and we use knifes alot there. when i first got it i thought it was a very good knife then i realzed the blade flexed alot and i mean alot, then i put gloves on and grabbed on to the blade and handle and when i put pressure on it the blade snapped it two and im not the strongest person, im 13 and whiegh 105 soaking wet so it doesnt take alot of pressure to brake so i do not recomend this to anyone

  • it obviously was a cheap knockoff....and your obviously stupid...die

  • @insomniac1122 how is it a cheap knock off? Tell me how you know this?

  • @TheAaronGreen because it broke with hand pressure....either hes lieing or it was shit knife. and this one is not

  • @insomniac1122 nope, I bought it from the SOG website

  • I have a cheap Jaguar that looks like the pentagon

  • good vid, just write more tags.

  • I'm sort of between this, a Boker Fairbairn-Applegate boot knife and a Cold Steel Braveheart. Any reccomendations?

  • id go with the fairbain, the braveheart has no guard what so ever so your hands can slide, the pentagon is really small. the applegate has some heft to it and is an efective tactical and fighting knife

  • You're absolutely right but I decided on the Braveheart because it costs less. I handled a Boker Fairbairn boot knife at a gun show and it was of divine quality so now I have my heart set on a full size fairbairn.I thought a knife as magnificent as that deserves better than to be shoved into my boot anyway.

  • First off great video touched on alot of key points i was interested in so thank you for making the video and the demo at the end was great!

Second in considering that nutnfancy "dont know hell" i am going to be watching alot more of cutlerylover's videos!

Im just kidding to anyone who is wondering both of them are great knife reviewers!

  • Heh "If you need to use this for stabbing."

  • i really like how they combine the best of both worlds serrated and plain in a nice little knife i have the cold steel brave heart ide recommend that too

  • you can get this knife on amazon.

  • Comment removed

  • i would of liked this knife better if it was one side entire serraton and the other plian edge

  • Thx for the review. I'm not the biggest SOG fan but this knife is one I really like.

  • SOG is cool! But the Fusion line is a little over the top.

  • Great VID sold me on it.....Thanks for the review

  • great review cutlerylover your the best

  • why would they not sharpen the whole blade? I was going to purchase this knife but it won't happen now. someone should be fired.

  • WOW! thanks, that a lot of information. thank you!

if i learn how i may try to post a vid of it...thank yuo again!

  • your so lucky you hav money for all these iasked my parentd for one for my sixteenth birth day tommorow like 2 months ago and the said they barey had enough money to live in our house let alone waste 85 on a knife instdim getting a stupid cake

  • You make financial room for hobbies when you're older I guess. I'm sure your parents have hobbies, and if not, they'll spend that money elsewhere.

  • Comment removed

  • you should get a part time job. you'll earn $85 in no time at all

  • Comment removed

  • Hey congratulations you are 16 now so that means you can stop being lazy and get a job to make your own money! Be happy your parents are even getting you a "stupid cake".

  • i have a damn job working nine to six and i idnt get the cake

  • what do you think is the best steel ?

  • I hear d2 is really good

  • as for CL, I'm not for sure. But I, along with many others, prefer S30V over any other steel. D2 is also good, along with VG-10.

  • the moldknob in the end of the handle makes it look cheap and I don't like serrated blades :P

  • Holy crap! Can you imagine if someone used that jimping and their thumb slipped forward and ther knife was remotely sharp?!?!? Dude that would suck...

  • soo badass :] reminds me of sam fishers knife in chaos theory. good knife :}

  • doesnt look like a knife i have uses for

  • yea, me either, but good vid tho right?

  • Another great review!

  • The Singapore army uses this brand but it is a utility tool.

  • Your comments are too short.

  • Lol, they are short compared to other quality reviews.

  • nice knife im a huge sog fan got alot of there knifes including this one i was gonna buy the sog vulcan today but didn't get it i will though when im better on money check it out

  • Nice review, Man... It's nice seeing some SOG representation... great knives...

    -S

  • I hope you enjoy the rest of your day too, cutlerylover. Great video dude. Like I told a friend of mine, if they outlaw our folding knives, (which I don't think they will be able to) I will have no problem carrying a fixed blade...especially a nice one like this. Thank you for the review.

  • i have a knife that look a LOT like that. near the same. 3" blade 9 roughly, haven't measured it), double edge, only straight edge.

it has the markings "Explorer MM-I" and 21-043 Japan.

can anyone tell what what that means?

  • Great review cutlerylover 5/5 keep it up.

    LATE........

  • Good review, you know i had the best dream ever last night just thought id let you know for no apparent reason

  • Nice knife! Was the balance decent?

  • that's illegal where I livep[double edge], but you can carry an AK47 in your vehicle. NICE VID!

  • desertcamelbak

    lol

    that sucks

  • I would get it reprofiled to have a 3"+ cutting edge

  • great review

  • 5 stars Jeff. I bet it was tough to put down that Kyley custom to review this SOG.

Thank you for expounding on the utility of serrated edges. The one thing I've found with them that bears mentioning is that a serrated edge cuts through the material at all costs and doesn't usually leave a clean cut on the material.

    Ron

  • yes you can sharpen the serrations, you can run the serrations on the corners of a sharpmaker

  • could you sharpen that serated edge?

doesnt look like it to me, but correct me if im wrong

  • you can, it just takes different sizes for sharpeners

  • yes there is actually alot of tools on the market for serrations...

  • how do u sharpen the serrations?

  • DMT sharpening stick, its a tapered cone you can put in the serrations, also, some triangular stones, and if youre lucky and have the right type of serrsations and ceramic rods, those can work too, but id recomend a DMT.

  • If you dont have the money for the fancy stuff, just go to your hardware store homedepot lowes etc. and bring your knife, go to where they have dowel rods and find which ones fit in the serations, then just put a piece of sandpaper around it and then you have sharp serations agian, sometimes you will have to have two or three different sizes...

  • alright, thanks very much!

  • @olchevyman Or you can get a honing iron, like chefs use. I am a chef and a baker, so that is what I use on my serrated knives, wheter for kitchen use or EDC. Honing irons are not expensive either, you can get one for like $2.00 tops. Mine came included in my kitchen knife set, which included a really nice knife assortment (except for the butcher knife, which is not very ergonomic at all; but I solved that problem), a poultry shear, and a knife block for $15.

  • @YoungBrave2006 I know what you are speaking of we used them in the meat department when I used to work at a grocery store back in the day, but most I have seen don't come to a fine enough point to get in the small serrations found on many pocket knives and such....I will look around again and see if I see anymore. Thanks for letting me know though....

  • @olchevyman There are really small ones. I used to have a couple of those. The ones you use at the butcher shop tend to be pretty wide in diameter; but you can look around for something a little skinnier, which is what I use on my tanto half serrated folder.

  • i like serrations on emt, rescue,and boat/dive knives

  • i like how there a plain edge and then theres the other side for options

  • it looks like a dagger

  • Are you sure this is AUS8? newgraham shows it as having an AUS6 Powder Coated Blade.

  • they dont really update their site

  • I've seen this shown as AUS6 too.

  • The place I got mine from advertised it as AUS8, and I refferenced the website to cionfirm that...So as far as I know thats accurate, unless both the SOG wsebsite and the other site were both wrong or outdated?

  • hey man good review.. im pretty shure this knife is illegal in california... better yet LA county.... anyways i would love to see a review of the benchmade Barrage.. it looks like a griptillian on crack lol

  • Thanks alot man. I had no idea serrations worked that way.

  • LOL its just a gerber guardian backup with a seration. I like it tho. I like the sheath of the backup alot better.

  • the blade style has been around for many years gerber wasnt the 1st to use it...many companies make a similar boot knife...

  • The design you're referring to is actually Rex applegate's custom dagger design.

You can actually look up his book, and you can see on the cover a photo of him years ago holding the original design. I've had some talk with nutnfancy on this, for some reason he doesn't believe me.

  • I was lucky enough to have met Rex in person and talked with him about his knives, very njice man, real sad that he passed, I have a signed picture of him, Ill show it sometiem in a vid...

  • Yeah I think you mentioned that in a past video, it would be interesting to see.

  • Yea but you have to admit it looks nearly the same as the gerber in blade style length and handle. But yes the design has been around. Its nothing more than a small dirk haha

  • the gimping wouldnt be too big of a problem to ME becuz i would be using it in emergency defensive/tactical, so i wouldnt necessarily need to make fine cuts on the attacker lol

  • Awe, no Zippo click to open up the video :(

  • I will send you a brand new cold steel bushman, slightly used master hunter, and a slightly used mini pendelton hunter for your SOG Pentagon.

Let me know what you think.

  • send me a message...

  • I really thought thatSOG knives were great, But my opinion changed quickly after I bought one. I Got a Flash II atLOWES for $45 and thought it was a greatdeal. I used it for 1 day and have not carried it since. I really want to like it, and the other sog knives I have handled, Butfrom my experience with them, they are a 2nd rate company, much like Cold Steel to me. Gimmicky "Gas Station" knives with second rate build and materials....

  • why not go full strait/full serration?

  • the partal striaght on this knife is for throwing/ stabbing

  • i dont like fixed blades as much as folds

  • thanks for doing this i have been waiting for a review on this knife

  • great review

    5*s

  • are you guys aware of the fact that US customs is trying to redefine every blade that you can open with one hand as a switchblade?

go to akti and do something before it's too late

  • where would you find out the local regulations on knives?

  • nice knife man what was the price?

  • hey jeff i was wondering ive been researching for a while and came up with nothing are bailisongs illegal in maine. If you could help me with this question that would be great. Thank you.

  • Great tidbit about the laws being diffrent in towns. For example there is no blade leangth limit in washington but in seatle a 4 inch long blade or more is considered a deadly weapon and is prohibited.

  • Ahhh your evil you've rekindled my unecessary need for this knife.

  • I recently bought Cold STeel Kobun and Recon 1 knife...there were both made in Taiwan and stamped on blade...WTF...

  • very nice but..This knife is Made/stamp Taiwan on the Blade......I just hate that..I rather see made in Japan or USA

  • me too but the price will reflect that...

  • Very nice knife.

  • O_O......why do u need a knife on u all the time

  • self defence

  • Many reasons. Knives are the ultimate in utility tools, as they are extremely versatile and can be used for many things, not just cutting. In a last-ditch scenario, you can use this for self-defense.

  • Its like a safty blanket that is also a great tool.

  • A knife is one of the most usfull, and the most basic of utility tools. You will find a use for a knife in just about every task of your daily life if you carry one. I have always carried a small knife on me. The other use of a knife is for self defence. Being that it is dangerous to use a knife for self defence, they should only be used as a last resort.

  • you dont "need" a knife on you "all" the time. But if you dont carry one "all the time"(edc), when you do need it, you wont likely have it.

  • @brreed82

so in other words. Just carry a knife on you.

  • nice

  • nice looks cool but looks just like my gerber backup except without the serrated edge

  • lol

  • lol

  • so close

  • is there a single edge version?

  • first! llooks cool, as far as boot knives go.

  • nice knife

  • nice knife, nice reveiw, good job jeff
