i like to camp and i like swimming so i was looking around for a good aqua-knife that i can strap to my ankle while swimming, etc.....thing is, i dont like the double-edge....very unpractical (ithink) in camping/survival situations.....do you know of any other knives that is boot/ankle strap-able, highly water-resistant and clip/bowie/drop point knife?
Any way this could be adapted to wear horizontally in the small of your back? I'd prefer to carry a fixed blade but I don't like having it ride up high on either side, the handle usually pokes me in the ribs.
Is there a poor man's version of this knife-that you know of? (decent quality of course) I like the design it just seems to be a bit pricey for my taste.
@4thatdude1 If you look around, you can get a pakistani mini version of the British comando knife with one edge serrated. a little longer than this but a lot cheaper, and the quality of the craftsmanship is pretty good.
@4thatdude1 reply to me and I'll tell you about a pretty good company for poor man's knives. I tried to send you a reply on here; but I think Youtube deleted it because they thought it was spam. I have no affiliation with that company; but I have bought a metric buttload of knives from them. Some are brand names like Cold Steel, and some are just really cheap, like $2.00. or less.
@YoungBrave2006 Cool. If you could send me like, the name of that mini commando, then that sounds great. And the company name would be a great help also. I just don't want to spend $65 on a knife for what I would be using this knife for. Thanks so much!
ive had this knife for a long time and could never figure out how ud latch it into your boot... please help.... where and how do you tie it on to ur boot at?
same as 440C compares to 440A, same steel family but slight difference in make up, AUS6 will be a bit softer than AUS8 and not hold an edge as long..I got my specs from SOG's website, I would probably go with their info...but no ones perfect, I could have flubbed it a bit and read it wrong?
Oh ok, thanks for writin back with the info man =]
But i doubt you flubbed it man, there may be 2 different steel variations. Like the Griptilian coming in 154CM and in D2. But more then likely New graham made the mistake. Thanks again.
a dagger is a style of knife if you want to be specific, but yes according to law a double edges knife is a dagger and if one full edge is sharop and half of the other edge is sharp its a stiletto...
got this knife for my birthday cause i was going back to grayling,ak and we use knifes alot there. when i first got it i thought it was a very good knife then i realzed the blade flexed alot and i mean alot, then i put gloves on and grabbed on to the blade and handle and when i put pressure on it the blade snapped it two and im not the strongest person, im 13 and whiegh 105 soaking wet so it doesnt take alot of pressure to brake so i do not recomend this to anyone
id go with the fairbain, the braveheart has no guard what so ever so your hands can slide, the pentagon is really small. the applegate has some heft to it and is an efective tactical and fighting knife
You're absolutely right but I decided on the Braveheart because it costs less. I handled a Boker Fairbairn boot knife at a gun show and it was of divine quality so now I have my heart set on a full size fairbairn.I thought a knife as magnificent as that deserves better than to be shoved into my boot anyway.
i really like how they combine the best of both worlds serrated and plain in a nice little knife i have the cold steel brave heart ide recommend that too

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day too, cutlerylover. Great video dude. Like I told a friend of mine, if they outlaw our folding knives, (which I don't think they will be able to) I will have no problem carrying a fixed blade...especially a nice one like this. Thank you for the review.
5 stars Jeff. I bet it was tough to put down that Kyley custom to review this SOG.
Thank you for expounding on the utility of serrated edges. The one thing I've found with them that bears mentioning is that a serrated edge cuts through the material at all costs and doesn't usually leave a clean cut on the material.
DMT sharpening stick, its a tapered cone you can put in the serrations, also, some triangular stones, and if youre lucky and have the right type of serrsations and ceramic rods, those can work too, but id recomend a DMT.
If you dont have the money for the fancy stuff, just go to your hardware store homedepot lowes etc. and bring your knife, go to where they have dowel rods and find which ones fit in the serations, then just put a piece of sandpaper around it and then you have sharp serations agian, sometimes you will have to have two or three different sizes...
@olchevyman Or you can get a honing iron, like chefs use. I am a chef and a baker, so that is what I use on my serrated knives, wheter for kitchen use or EDC. Honing irons are not expensive either, you can get one for like $2.00 tops. Mine came included in my kitchen knife set, which included a really nice knife assortment (except for the butcher knife, which is not very ergonomic at all; but I solved that problem), a poultry shear, and a knife block for $15.
@YoungBrave2006 I know what you are speaking of we used them in the meat department when I used to work at a grocery store back in the day, but most I have seen don't come to a fine enough point to get in the small serrations found on many pocket knives and such....I will look around again and see if I see anymore. Thanks for letting me know though....
@olchevyman There are really small ones. I used to have a couple of those. The ones you use at the butcher shop tend to be pretty wide in diameter; but you can look around for something a little skinnier, which is what I use on my tanto half serrated folder.
The place I got mine from advertised it as AUS8, and I refferenced the website to cionfirm that...So as far as I know thats accurate, unless both the SOG wsebsite and the other site were both wrong or outdated?
hey man good review.. im pretty shure this knife is illegal in california... better yet LA county.... anyways i would love to see a review of the benchmade Barrage.. it looks like a griptillian on crack lol
The design you're referring to is actually Rex applegate's custom dagger design.
You can actually look up his book, and you can see on the cover a photo of him years ago holding the original design. I've had some talk with nutnfancy on this, for some reason he doesn't believe me.
I was lucky enough to have met Rex in person and talked with him about his knives, very njice man, real sad that he passed, I have a signed picture of him, Ill show it sometiem in a vid...
Yea but you have to admit it looks nearly the same as the gerber in blade style length and handle. But yes the design has been around. Its nothing more than a small dirk haha
the gimping wouldnt be too big of a problem to ME becuz i would be using it in emergency defensive/tactical, so i wouldnt necessarily need to make fine cuts on the attacker lol

I used it for 1 day and have not carried it since. I really want to like it, and the other sog knives I have handled, Butfrom my experience with them, they are a 2nd rate company, much like Cold Steel to me. Gimmicky "Gas Station" knives with second rate build and materials....
hey jeff i was wondering ive been researching for a while and came up with nothing are bailisongs illegal in maine. If you could help me with this question that would be great. Thank you.
Great tidbit about the laws being diffrent in towns. For example there is no blade leangth limit in washington but in seatle a 4 inch long blade or more is considered a deadly weapon and is prohibited.
Many reasons. Knives are the ultimate in utility tools, as they are extremely versatile and can be used for many things, not just cutting. In a last-ditch scenario, you can use this for self-defense.
A knife is one of the most usfull, and the most basic of utility tools. You will find a use for a knife in just about every task of your daily life if you carry one. I have always carried a small knife on me. The other use of a knife is for self defence. Being that it is dangerous to use a knife for self defence, they should only be used as a last resort.
i was wondering are daggers illegal to carry or do they have to be a certain length?

Good review
Why does everyone want a cheaper knife
It doesn't matter if you review a $20 gerber
The cheapskates always want to find something cheaper
You get what you pay for
Yes you can find better deals on the same knife
And that's usually thru the Internet
