Hey man, you still riding this sporty? I still have my nightster but after wrecking my body up on the damn thing I moved up to a road glide for the longer rides...did a lil vid of it on my page.
Nice bike dude. I've got an '07 Sportster myself... I really wanted the Nightster but I found a regular Sportster for $4k back in early '09 (bent fork and scratch in the tank) so I had to jump on that deal while I could. Unfortunately I crashed my car and broke my Femur so I spent some time in bed. Little did I know the dogs were tripping the security system constantly and wore out the battery. So now I'm broke and trying to pay off the med bills and get the bike working correctly.
@TheGoater11 it's tough to say because I put the wheel and the bars on the same day. The thought of sitting higher didn't come to mind when I rode it for the first time with the 21".
right on man. i like your set up. thanks for checkin out my video. i dont care if you set up your fender like mine, to tell you the truth a year ago i saw your video with the 21 in front and copied that from you. haha.
Front wheel looks awesome. Would there be enough clearance to keep the fender on the front if you had wanted to. Just bought a 21" for my Nighster and I think I want to keep the front fender. Would it work?
hey Steve..love the looks of the 21" front wheel. Would like to do same with my 2008 Nightster but can't find any place(without custom make). Can ya help me? Where'd ya find yours? Thnx!
thanks! I got the wheel off of ebay. It came off of a 1200C custom. Not sure if it was luck or not, but all i did was type "sportster 21 wheel" on ebay and it came up. It was freshly powder coated and laced. Cost me about 1/3 of what the HD dealership was going to charge. Good luck!
thx man. Look around, you can get good deals on 21" wheels. I found mine on ebay, new powder coating and laced for about 1/4 of what the hd dealership wanted to charge me.
Man, i love that bike. I plan on buying a used one when i raise the money, it will be my first bike. the olive and black denim is the best color combo IMHO. i really wish h-d would continue with it. your bike is sick, thats what i planned on mine looking like only with the black apes. do you have any foward controls or do you just have the mids? keep that bike looking mean. congrats.
agree, the olive is the best colour choice. that is a nice ride. like the compact practicallity of the nightster. don't like those oversized look at me harleys
Thanks for the compliments man. I agree, the olive/blk paint scheme is the best. I also dig the vivid black. I have mid controls. I'm 6'0 and the mids feel great. I did ride my friend's nightster with forwards and i liked it a lot...just don't want to drop the coin for em at the moment. Best of luck in getting one....you can find them at really good prices now.
DYNA???? OVersized and f-in slow!! I got an 09 vivid black nightster and my buddy has an old man superglide and i spanked him!! corners and curves, man you cant beat the sportster. HELL NO... great bike by the way im diggin the apes, theyre way better than the hd minis. i wanna slap some forward controls on mine but have to wait a lil while. peace and ride safe. Dyna. lol
Hey Steve, I actually love those bars, but I was wondering if you had to extend all of your lines to fit? It looks like the stock throttle, brake, and clutch lines. Also I guess you don't ride in the rain do you? That missing front fender must sling water in your face.
Thanks for the compliment. Yes, i did extend the lines. At first i put on the long cables, but after looking at it the harley service dude and i realized the cables looked too long. So, we ordered the mid range/medium length cables. They fit perfectly. I had to wait about two weeks for the black cables, i refused to put the metal/diamond cut looking cables on the bike. Well worth the wait in my opinion. I've ridden in the rain once, just once lol. The water rooster was unbearable.
Yeah the metal brakelines just don't work on a bike that is pretty much anti chrome. Anyway, you did a good job with your bike, kept it simple but it looks pretty cool.
Actually it's got a pretty good kick to it. I came off of crotch rockets and this was my first hd. I'm very pleased, especially after doing the minor mods/ac upgrade/pipes etc.
got it off a 1200c custom via ebay. The HD dealer wanted $800 for the same wheel. I paid $250 for a newly laced and powder coated one. They come up on ebay every now and then. Just type in harley sporster 21 wheel. That's how i found mine. Hope that helps.
dude, this bike looks awesome. definitely feeling those roland sands bars & the 21" wheel looks amazing. just bought my nightster YESTERDAY, can't wait to get rolling with some work. nice job bro.
thanks man. What color did you go with? First thing I recommend is putting on some pipes. The stock sound is very timid in my opinion. The vh short shots are great, as are Thunderheader pipes. If you do go with some pipes, definitely drop the coin for the ac upgrade and ecu....well worth the couple of hundred bones. Best of luck man.
nothing new as of late. Was thinking of painting her. But after realizing that HD discontinued my paint scheme i'm gonna leave the paint alone. Other than that, i'm liking her the way she is now. So i'll most likely not do anything else to her. If anything i may get some black progressive shocks.
I came off of a crotch rocket, an Aprilia RSV. This was my first Harley. I'm never going back to the crotch rocket type bike. There's just something special about riding a loud ass harley. I can't take the S turns as fast as i used to on my Aprilia, but that's just fine by me. The harley is safer, louder and a lot more fun in other ways. I recommend this bike over buying a sport bike. Don't get me wrong, i love sport bikes, but i love my harley a bit more.
I wrecked my z1000 back in may and screwed myself up pretty bad. should be walking in a couple of weeks but I NEED A BIKE NOW!! I might head over to the Harley Dealer today and check em out. It would be much easier to stay out of trouble on a Harley as opposed to the CBR1000RR i've got my eye on
It will be easier to finance with a new one. plus i cant really find many '08 cbr1000rr's or zx10r's yet and that's what i want. A few local dealers have em for $10k out the door, which is pretty good
Yeh, i'd say you're a bit too big. I'm 6'0 180lbs and it fits just right. I can see it feeling cramped if i were four inches taller. Why not go for the Cross Bones or a Street Bob or Fat Bob?
The Nightster is right at the top of my price range, and it's really the only harley i would buy. Maybe the XR1200 when or if it comes over here. A Harley that can hang with the crotch rockets in the corners would be pretty cool
i had the samething with my 07 gixxer 1k. i rode onefor a day and traded in the rocket the next. just something about riding the nightster that does it for me.
Steve....how did you do the download? I'm lookin at the SShots and the Dynojet Fuel Pck computer...but I'm told that I'll void my warranty if I don't let HD re-map for me....?
Yeh, i had HD do it. My friend is a service dude there and he hooked me up. I've heard that it's easy to do w/ the Dynojet and VH fuelpaks. If i'm not mistaken i believe that the fuelpaks come with a tuning mechanism that's easy to use. At least the VH one did..i think. If it does in fact void the warranty, i'd say fork over the cash and have HD do it. You never know if something can go wrong, then you're screwed. Might as well drop the 200 bones and have peace of mind.
Ebay. It was freshly powder coated and laced. Cost me $120. The harley dealer wanted almost $800 for the same set up. Just type in "sportster 21 wheel" and usually you'll be able to find a few options.
No, you don't bud. I bought the VH fuel pak, one of the first ones in CA. For some reason, my service dept at the local HD dealership couldn't make it fit under the seat. So, i went with the AC kit and download. Runs like a f'n monster. I installed a set of VH SS on my buddy's nightster. He didn't do the AC or download. It runs well, but it pops quite a lot for the first ten miles of a ride. Not sure if that means it's running rich or lean. I highly recommend the AC kit and download.
I love what you did to your bike. You have great vision & creativity. You've got to change those chrome shocks to black ones to blend with the bike. Ride Hard!!
thanks lobz...i really dig the bars where they're at. You have a night rod? Man, i saw a night rod that was all retro hauling ass on the road today. The guy chopped the fenders, painted it flat black and threw on some apes. It was hands down the best night rod i've ever seen.
Great look, and a 21" front is a must!! great choice...I actually love the paint...dark and not too much..but it is your bike...if you decide on painting it I would try to find a tank and fender painted of get a set painted to your liking, and keep the originals...so you can go back if you want or when you want..either way it is sweet!!..I just finished my bobbed 77 FLH and posted it....Check it out!!!!!!
my bars are one of my favorite mods to the bike. In my opinion there is no drawback to them. I can still whip the bike around the curves. I love my stance in regards to shoulders and arms and they really feel like i have more control over the bike now.
I see in your video comment you said you'll probably paint it next. Just a little idea, but since you already have the black a/c cover, wheel, pipes, and the bars are not painted yet, you could go with an all-black theme. Might be too typical, though. You know, paint the bars black or leave 'em alone and paint the rest of the bike black.
Yeh, i've seen an all flat black nightster, looks really cool man. I've had second thoughts on painting it, i really am liking my olive/blk denim combo more and more.
You put a grand down and financed for 48 months. What's you payment every month. Looking to buy one and am curious what I should shoot for. Bitchin bike by the way.
Yep, put a grand down and i pay $300.94 a month, that includes extended warranty and service up 10k(i think). Thing is, i bought the bike right when it came out, so i didn't get anything off of msrp. I'm sure you could get a better deal now, especially with the economy being the way it is. People aren't really buying luxury items like bikes(so i've been told). Let me know the numbers your dealer comes up with before you sign anything.
The 21" wheel really makes the bike look so much better. I bought the wheel off of ebay of all places. It cost me 120 bucks, it was freshly powder coated and had a brand new hub. The HD dealer wanted around $800 for that same set up. So if you plan on doing it, shop around man. Hope to see you on the road my friend.
Yep, it will fit. My buddy has a black Nightster with forward controls. We had to remove a bolt or two from the forward controls, attach exhaust, then reattach forward control bolts. The exhaust is a real easy install, especially if you got an extra set of hands to help you.
standard. They're really loud..the video really doesn't catch how loud they are. Stock nightsters sound way to quiet in my opinion. The VH SS's sound the way a harley should sound.
A little advice: the "run/off" switch is an emergency kill switch and is only to be used in emergencies (it's hard on the electrical). The proper way to shut off your bike is to simply turn the key. Read your owners manual
Ya, my brother works for Harley and he said that it's common for people to do, and infact he uses the switch often as well... however, he said it is "proper proceedure" to only use it in emergencies, and while it's very hard on older bikes, you shouldn't have any issues on a new bike (with the exception of shorter battery life). Regardless, he said it's just a bad habit that should be broken
hey man luv the bike im gettin one with the same paint scheme in a few months i got one question for u tho wut website did u get those roland sands apes from, and i been thinkin about a jockey shifter witha stainless steel pistol grip knob do u think thatd b tite? thanx for ur time
Got the RS mini apes through my local dealer. If you google Roland Sand mini apes you shouldn't have a problem finding them. A jockey shift would be killer man, i've contemplated doing the same. I've only been able to find on jockey shift kit for the nightster though. Let me know if you plan on doing it...i'd love to see pics of the project. Godspeed.
had my friend at the HD dealership do it because i wanted an ecu and stage 1 upgrade. I helped a buddy of mine install his VH short shots on his nightster..it was easy. Toughest part was putting the damn heat shield clips on. It's a real easy installation.
Just a quick question for a beginner rider here. most of my friends are getting sportbikes this year, and I decided its time to get my first bike as well; allthough I;ve never been into the whole sportbike thing. My question is simply this... I have an oppurtunity to get one of these at a good price, but since it will be my FIRST bike, am I going to get destroyed ie... is it way too much bike for me? Im 6'0'' and 200lbs.
absolutely not man, get it. It's a very easy bike to ride. I came off of aprilias and ducatis, this was my first HD. I'm 6' 175 and it's a great fit for me. I'd suggest taking an MSF course. At first you may think the throttle is pretty touchy but something you will get used to in no time. Buy the bike, you won't regret it.
At 6' i'd say you're too tall for this bike. I'm 5'8" and fit a sportster perfectly. My cousin rode my bike and he;s about 6' and he looked, well not right for the bike. if i were you I'd get a bigger harley. But that said, sportsters are awsome bikes. I'm on my second one. they are reliable as can be, and don't let no one tell you they're not.
dude, you should be less likely to get destroyed on a harley, i've got a 883 sportster upgraded to a 1200, it's my first "big bike", my tip would be for any bike you get is be gentle with it and it should be ok, another tip is, if you ride out with your friends on their sportsbikes, stick to your own pace and chill, don't try to keep up if they are "going a bit quick" as the handling, and brakes on a harley are completely different to a sportsbike, mine hauls ass like you would'nt beleive
hey dude, whats the top speed on your bike? i wouldnt mind one of these but i want a bike that can atleast do 180- 220 kph , even if it can sit on 120 kph nicely is failry good, aslo whats acceleration like? can it keep up with most litre sports bikes? I actually own a litre sorts bike but the rising position is wearing thin, its 100 hp with 95 NM torqu would this bike be on par with accelration would you say? **i know harleys arent slow and shit**
Top speed? Not really sure man, i'd say around 120mph to 130mph. It's fast enough for me. I came off of an Aprilia RSV and i can tell you that my Harley is much more fun to ride. It's quick off the line. I've done some minimal work to the motor/exhaust/ecu so it's pretty quick. If you do get it i'd say the first thing you should do is a full exhaust and stage 1/ecu download...makes a huge difference.
thankyou, as much as i like this bike i think ill go for the dyna superglide, and modyfy it with ohlins suspension, here in australia the number plate has still been sitauted underneath the guard not to the side, which really ruined it for me
sick bike man,, love the old school bobber look of the nightster. i've been lookin at the fat bob and the street bob but always come back to the nightster,, i know the xl1200n is a smaller bike but how do you feel on it. too small? just right? got any vids of you riding it? i want to see ur riding position on it with the apes. great bike again man
thanks man. I really dig the fat bob too. As far as how i feel on the Nightster...I'm 6'0 180lbs. I feel great on it man. I stuck with the stock mid controls. I like having both feet planted firm when stopped. The bike is pretty damn low, i dig that. I can whip around in the canyons but one thing that bugs me is that the metal piece under my foot pegs constantly scrape when i'm really digging into the turns. Easy fix, just wondering why HD put em out like that.
thanks man. That means a lot. I've put in some sweat, a little bit of blood, some cuts and bruises and a good amount of time into it so i'm glad you like it.
That is a sick bike. Is that the Olive pearl paint? I went to look at one yesterday and pretty much made up my mind that that is the bike I want in that paint scheme. Love what you did with it.
Thanks man. Yeh, i'm a big fan of the olive/blk denim paint. I get a lot of compliments on the color when riding. I wish HD would've come out with a completely flat/denim black..what would look really cool.
Get one! Harley is giving these away at killer deals/prices. HD has been struggling sales wise this year so you can get into a Nightster for the cost of two nice dinners a month.
Ya i would buy one asap but i dont have 10 grand yet hopefully soon though. Ha what type of ape hangers are those? and the set of pipes what kind are those
You don't need ten grand man. I put down a grand and my payment is still really low at a 48 month finance term. The bars are Roland Sands mini apes and the pipes are Vance and Hines ShortShots in flat black.
it's super light compared to my M50. It feels like a frickin bicycle, which is good. I want a smaller, lighter bike with a bigger engine. I figure with that being so light but having a 1200 I bet it FLIES. Have you gotten the front wheel off the ground? That's the prob with my bike, its so heavy and I'm a smaller guy, it's alittle to big for me to play around with. I want a small old style chopper bike I can throw around, spin out and not worry about it falling over and stuff.
WHOA! I've seen those ape bars the other day! That's crazy, i'd NEVER seen them, then my buddy showed them to me, and now her they are on a bike! Those are BAD ASS! The ones I saw were extremely expensive for handlebars too. I sat on a nightster at a dealership, it felt alittle stiff. How does it ride? I've got a Suzuki boulevard M50 but really wanna go kinda old school, stripped own look. I'm military so I don't have time to build one, but the nightster comes already looking old school.
are those apes? arent they Z Bars, regardless looks hard as fuck thats how a nightster is suppose to look love the cut and powder coated exhaust and the fact that you got a flat color instead of gloss looks so much more tougher, damn that thing is mean
The RS website calls them mini apes. Thanks for the compliments man. I'm actually thinking of grinding the paint off my tank and fender so it's just bare metal.
where are you from? You sound like me putting on an American accent....what wheel does the stocker come with? I reckon you should stick a powdercoated 16 incher on there...nice bars dude.
Stock wheel was 19 inches. I wanted to do something different and something i haven't seen on the nightster before, so i threw on the 21". Thanks for the compliments man.
nice ride have same bike and color one better harley did in a long time just a fun bike I did vance sideshot ness big sucker 6 degree rake with nash apes power commander rekluse auto clutch la broila jockey shifter oh yeah its a trike since in a wheel chair
I like those grips man. I got one one the same color, and I'm getting the same pipes next week along with the powercommander and k&n, did you notice a power diff. I know they sound great but I really want more power.
clean bike man well done. i have a question where did u get the turn signal relocator kit and how much? also when u flipped the mirrors did u have to modify?
I like what you did to your Nightster...love the Roland Sands on it. Please post the info. on the new "shorter Cable" when you get them. I have a nightster also and would like to use the black cables instead of the braided silver ones, thanks man.
Thanks man. As far as the cables go, my parts guy at the local HD dealership ordered them for me and i picked them up. I had to wait a few weeks for the black cables to come in. I don't konw the exact lenght but i do know that he ordered the longer ones for me first. We put them on and they had way too much slack. So he ordered me the shorter of the two and they fit perfectly. Private message me and i'll give you my parts guy's phone number. He'd be able to tell you an exact part number.
thats sweet man, it looks bitchin. im having my tank painted right now and i just put somewhite walls on it. im jealous of the 21 forsure. do u have a myspace
i've been thinking of painting my tank too. What color are you going with? Had a myspace, took it off a while ago. I was thinking of painting my tank/rear fender flat black or raw bone metal.
Hey man, you still riding this sporty? I still have my nightster but after wrecking my body up on the damn thing I moved up to a road glide for the longer rides...did a lil vid of it on my page.

Yeh, i'd say you're a bit too big. I'm 6'0 180lbs and it fits just right. I can see it feeling cramped if i were four inches taller. Why not go for the Cross Bones or a Street Bob or Fat Bob?
steveCA 3 years ago
The Nightster is right at the top of my price range, and it's really the only harley i would buy. Maybe the XR1200 when or if it comes over here. A Harley that can hang with the crotch rockets in the corners would be pretty cool
MikEtheGimP 3 years ago
you should try the street bob. basically the bigger nightster.
MILNER600 3 years ago
the nightster is the only harley i would even consider, there's just something about it
MikEtheGimP 3 years ago
i had the samething with my 07 gixxer 1k. i rode onefor a day and traded in the rocket the next. just something about riding the nightster that does it for me.
MILNER600 3 years ago
awesome bike man. you are right the 21" front really sets it off, comboed with the mini apes that thing is off the chain
congrats

Steve....how did you do the download? I'm lookin at the SShots and the Dynojet Fuel Pck computer...but I'm told that I'll void my warranty if I don't let HD re-map for me....?
digitaldowns 3 years ago
Yeh, i had HD do it. My friend is a service dude there and he hooked me up. I've heard that it's easy to do w/ the Dynojet and VH fuelpaks. If i'm not mistaken i believe that the fuelpaks come with a tuning mechanism that's easy to use. At least the VH one did..i think. If it does in fact void the warranty, i'd say fork over the cash and have HD do it. You never know if something can go wrong, then you're screwed. Might as well drop the 200 bones and have peace of mind.
steveCA 3 years ago
You just destroyed the look of the bike. Those ape bars have to go!
kimotaco 3 years ago
to each his own my friend. I dig my bars more than any other mod on the bike.
steveCA 3 years ago
Hey bro, where did you pick up your front wheel?
darkspeed1983 3 years ago
Ebay. It was freshly powder coated and laced. Cost me $120. The harley dealer wanted almost $800 for the same set up. Just type in "sportster 21 wheel" and usually you'll be able to find a few options.
steveCA 3 years ago
i have a beginner's question, do you have to have a fuelpak, in order to put on the V&H exhaust?
lchen6 3 years ago
No, you don't bud. I bought the VH fuel pak, one of the first ones in CA. For some reason, my service dept at the local HD dealership couldn't make it fit under the seat. So, i went with the AC kit and download. Runs like a f'n monster. I installed a set of VH SS on my buddy's nightster. He didn't do the AC or download. It runs well, but it pops quite a lot for the first ten miles of a ride. Not sure if that means it's running rich or lean. I highly recommend the AC kit and download.
steveCA 3 years ago
I love what you did to your bike. You have great vision & creativity. You've got to change those chrome shocks to black ones to blend with the bike. Ride Hard!!
stephenlazar 3 years ago
thanks stephen. Yeh, been thinking of doing the shocks black..putting on some progressives. Just don't want to drop any more coin on it.
steveCA 3 years ago
I'm with you on that. I just added highway pegs to my Nightster and purchased another HD helmet. It never ends.
stephenlazar 3 years ago
awsomeeeeee
one thing id change is the handle bars, id make em a lil lower...
hey can anyone tell me y the night rod doesnt have the same deem harley sound as this nightster?
lobzdik 3 years ago
thanks lobz...i really dig the bars where they're at. You have a night rod? Man, i saw a night rod that was all retro hauling ass on the road today. The guy chopped the fenders, painted it flat black and threw on some apes. It was hands down the best night rod i've ever seen.
steveCA 3 years ago
na mi looking or a harley...
but i dont think i want a night rod, jus cause it hasnt got the same vintage sorta harley engine...
maybe a night train...
still thinkin tho )))
its not as easy to buy a harley in australia
lobzdik 3 years ago
Steve, I got to say you have one of the best looking nightster's on youtube.

thanks morg
steveCA 3 years ago
Yeah, those bars looks great with it. You gotta stick with the colors... it looks wicked! Reminds me of World War 2.
jamianm 3 years ago
Great look, and a 21" front is a must!! great choice...I actually love the paint...dark and not too much..but it is your bike...if you decide on painting it I would try to find a tank and fender painted of get a set painted to your liking, and keep the originals...so you can go back if you want or when you want..either way it is sweet!!..I just finished my bobbed 77 FLH and posted it....Check it out!!!!!!
13bluesbender 3 years ago
nice bike! wish got one like that ^-^
Baraquiel62 3 years ago
I really like what you have done so far, nice custom touches. What are the pros and cons of those mini apes?
nls8520 3 years ago
my bars are one of my favorite mods to the bike. In my opinion there is no drawback to them. I can still whip the bike around the curves. I love my stance in regards to shoulders and arms and they really feel like i have more control over the bike now.
steveCA 3 years ago
Did you have to get new cables for the bars, or could you use the ones on it?
mgover13 3 years ago
PM sent :)
steveCA 3 years ago
I see in your video comment you said you'll probably paint it next. Just a little idea, but since you already have the black a/c cover, wheel, pipes, and the bars are not painted yet, you could go with an all-black theme. Might be too typical, though. You know, paint the bars black or leave 'em alone and paint the rest of the bike black.
jcdenton7 3 years ago
Yeh, i've seen an all flat black nightster, looks really cool man. I've had second thoughts on painting it, i really am liking my olive/blk denim combo more and more.
steveCA 3 years ago
You put a grand down and financed for 48 months. What's you payment every month. Looking to buy one and am curious what I should shoot for. Bitchin bike by the way.
foxc0311 3 years ago
Yep, put a grand down and i pay $300.94 a month, that includes extended warranty and service up 10k(i think). Thing is, i bought the bike right when it came out, so i didn't get anything off of msrp. I'm sure you could get a better deal now, especially with the economy being the way it is. People aren't really buying luxury items like bikes(so i've been told). Let me know the numbers your dealer comes up with before you sign anything.
steveCA 3 years ago
The 21 inch front wheel rocks. Did you have to powder coat it black or can you purchase it that way?
I get alot of static from my H/D friends when I tell them I want to change things on my 08 Nightster. I just say screw'em I paid for the dam bike.
Awsome job on yours. A+!
Ride like the wind & live long!
GerryK1961 3 years ago
The 21" wheel really makes the bike look so much better. I bought the wheel off of ebay of all places. It cost me 120 bucks, it was freshly powder coated and had a brand new hub. The HD dealer wanted around $800 for that same set up. So if you plan on doing it, shop around man. Hope to see you on the road my friend.
steveCA 3 years ago
such a gnarly bike

steveCA 3 years ago
Hi Mate. Do you have the baffles in or not?
lockyb72 3 years ago
no baffles. The camera audio doesn't do the pipes justice. They're loud, really loud.
steveCA 3 years ago
oh and if i was to put forward controls on it, would that exhaust still fit?
joep514 3 years ago
Yep, it will fit. My buddy has a black Nightster with forward controls. We had to remove a bolt or two from the forward controls, attach exhaust, then reattach forward control bolts. The exhaust is a real easy install, especially if you got an extra set of hands to help you.
steveCA 3 years ago
Your bike looks AMAZING, all the mods really work for it. Post up some more videos if you can.
joep514 3 years ago
Thanks Joe! I'll get some more up real soon.
steveCA 3 years ago
standard. They're really loud..the video really doesn't catch how loud they are. Stock nightsters sound way to quiet in my opinion. The VH SS's sound the way a harley should sound.
steveCA 3 years ago
A little advice: the "run/off" switch is an emergency kill switch and is only to be used in emergencies (it's hard on the electrical). The proper way to shut off your bike is to simply turn the key. Read your owners manual
glenepic 3 years ago
you sure man? I asked my HD service guy and he said the exact opposite.
steveCA 3 years ago
Ya, my brother works for Harley and he said that it's common for people to do, and infact he uses the switch often as well... however, he said it is "proper proceedure" to only use it in emergencies, and while it's very hard on older bikes, you shouldn't have any issues on a new bike (with the exception of shorter battery life). Regardless, he said it's just a bad habit that should be broken
glenepic 3 years ago
And by the way... LOVE the bike. Great pipes, nice choice on the signal relocation, and while I'm not a huge fan of apes, you picked a NICE set!
glenepic 3 years ago
Good to know, man. Thanks for the heads up and thanks for the compliments!
steveCA 3 years ago
ACTUALLY if you do read the 2008 Sportster manual on page 79 it tells you to use the handlebar switch and then use the key.
boombaattz 3 years ago
thanks boom! i thought i was right.
steveCA 3 years ago
hey man luv the bike im gettin one with the same paint scheme in a few months i got one question for u tho wut website did u get those roland sands apes from, and i been thinkin about a jockey shifter witha stainless steel pistol grip knob do u think thatd b tite? thanx for ur time
chopperfriek1229 3 years ago
Got the RS mini apes through my local dealer. If you google Roland Sand mini apes you shouldn't have a problem finding them. A jockey shift would be killer man, i've contemplated doing the same. I've only been able to find on jockey shift kit for the nightster though. Let me know if you plan on doing it...i'd love to see pics of the project. Godspeed.
steveCA 3 years ago
one more question about the roland sands, did u have to get extensions on the cables to the bars or did u just use the stock ones? thanx again
chopperfriek1229 3 years ago
Hey Man, Did the HD dealership install the Exhaust?
rayray40 3 years ago
had my friend at the HD dealership do it because i wanted an ecu and stage 1 upgrade. I helped a buddy of mine install his VH short shots on his nightster..it was easy. Toughest part was putting the damn heat shield clips on. It's a real easy installation.
steveCA 3 years ago
I love it, very nice bike.
rayray40 3 years ago
Thanks man
steveCA 3 years ago
hey man, where did you pick up that tern signal relocation kit?
bluebyyousvt 3 years ago
My friend Rudy at Van Nuys HD hooked me up.
steveCA 3 years ago
Just a quick question for a beginner rider here. most of my friends are getting sportbikes this year, and I decided its time to get my first bike as well; allthough I;ve never been into the whole sportbike thing. My question is simply this... I have an oppurtunity to get one of these at a good price, but since it will be my FIRST bike, am I going to get destroyed ie... is it way too much bike for me? Im 6'0'' and 200lbs.
intotheashes 3 years ago
Hey,
absolutely not man, get it. It's a very easy bike to ride. I came off of aprilias and ducatis, this was my first HD. I'm 6' 175 and it's a great fit for me. I'd suggest taking an MSF course. At first you may think the throttle is pretty touchy but something you will get used to in no time. Buy the bike, you won't regret it.
steveCA 3 years ago
At 6' i'd say you're too tall for this bike. I'm 5'8" and fit a sportster perfectly. My cousin rode my bike and he;s about 6' and he looked, well not right for the bike. if i were you I'd get a bigger harley. But that said, sportsters are awsome bikes. I'm on my second one. they are reliable as can be, and don't let no one tell you they're not.
saeid from iran
disndat11 3 years ago
dude, you should be less likely to get destroyed on a harley, i've got a 883 sportster upgraded to a 1200, it's my first "big bike", my tip would be for any bike you get is be gentle with it and it should be ok, another tip is, if you ride out with your friends on their sportsbikes, stick to your own pace and chill, don't try to keep up if they are "going a bit quick" as the handling, and brakes on a harley are completely different to a sportsbike, mine hauls ass like you would'nt beleive
mickb69 3 years ago
hey dude, whats the top speed on your bike? i wouldnt mind one of these but i want a bike that can atleast do 180- 220 kph , even if it can sit on 120 kph nicely is failry good, aslo whats acceleration like? can it keep up with most litre sports bikes? I actually own a litre sorts bike but the rising position is wearing thin, its 100 hp with 95 NM torqu would this bike be on par with accelration would you say? **i know harleys arent slow and shit**
streetfighterharleys 4 years ago
If you do get it i'd say the first thing you should do is a full exhaust and stage 1/ecu download...makes a huge difference.
steveCA 3 years ago
thankyou, as much as i like this bike i think ill go for the dyna superglide, and modyfy it with ohlins suspension, here in australia the number plate has still been sitauted underneath the guard not to the side, which really ruined it for me
streetfighterharleys 3 years ago
sick bike man,, love the old school bobber look of the nightster. i've been lookin at the fat bob and the street bob but always come back to the nightster,, i know the xl1200n is a smaller bike but how do you feel on it. too small? just right? got any vids of you riding it? i want to see ur riding position on it with the apes. great bike again man
ramrocket 4 years ago
Easy fix, just wondering why HD put em out like that.
steveCA 4 years ago
SteveCA, you have the best 1200N on youtube easy
cmflo 4 years ago
thanks man. That means a lot. I've put in some sweat, a little bit of blood, some cuts and bruises and a good amount of time into it so i'm glad you like it.
steveCA 4 years ago
That is a sick bike. Is that the Olive pearl paint? I went to look at one yesterday and pretty much made up my mind that that is the bike I want in that paint scheme. Love what you did with it.
mykdaneck 4 years ago
Thanks man. Yeh, i'm a big fan of the olive/blk denim paint. I get a lot of compliments on the color when riding. I wish HD would've come out with a completely flat/denim black..what would look really cool.
steveCA 4 years ago
Killer bike man i want one
TD41990 4 years ago
Get one! Harley is giving these away at killer deals/prices. HD has been struggling sales wise this year so you can get into a Nightster for the cost of two nice dinners a month.
steveCA 4 years ago
Ya i would buy one asap but i dont have 10 grand yet hopefully soon though. Ha what type of ape hangers are those? and the set of pipes what kind are those
TD41990 4 years ago
You don't need ten grand man. I put down a grand and my payment is still really low at a 48 month finance term. The bars are Roland Sands mini apes and the pipes are Vance and Hines ShortShots in flat black.
steveCA 4 years ago
ill have to take a look at the 48 month finance thanks for the info. and by the way i would leave your bike just the way it is now it looks awsome.
TD41990 4 years ago
Dude that sounds Freaking Awesome! Love the Nightsters! Great Vid Post more!
speedspeedspeed1 4 years ago
thanks man. I'll get more vids up asap
steveCA 4 years ago
it's super light compared to my M50. I want a small old style chopper bike I can throw around, spin out and not worry about it falling over and stuff.
whiskeywilliams 4 years ago
I'm military so I don't have time to build one, but the nightster comes already looking old school.
whiskeywilliams 4 years ago
are those apes? arent they Z Bars, regardless looks hard as fuck thats how a nightster is suppose to look love the cut and powder coated exhaust and the fact that you got a flat color instead of gloss looks so much more tougher, damn that thing is mean
nimagholam 4 years ago
The RS website calls them mini apes. Thanks for the compliments man. I'm actually thinking of grinding the paint off my tank and fender so it's just bare metal.
steveCA 4 years ago
where are you from? You sound like me putting on an American accent....what wheel does the stocker come with? I reckon you should stick a powdercoated 16 incher on there...nice bars dude.
jasonstred 4 years ago
Stock wheel was 19 inches. I wanted to do something different and something i haven't seen on the nightster before, so i threw on the 21". Thanks for the compliments man.
steveCA 4 years ago
nice bike man.its good 2c u did some thing different by changing to apes and the 21inch wheel.top bike man well done.

Hey Steve,
I like what you did to your Nightster...love the Roland Sands on it. Please post the info. on the new "shorter Cable" when you get them. I have a nightster also and would like to use the black cables instead of the braided silver ones, thanks man.
vusonit 4 years ago
He'd be able to tell you an exact part number.
steveCA 4 years ago
hey bud looks good, so the 21' thats rad i was goin to do it myself so did u have it painted.
nazirun 4 years ago
thx man, i dig your vivid black N too. I got the 21" off of a Sportster 1200C...had it powder coated black and threw it on
steveCA 4 years ago
thats sweet man, it looks bitchin. im having my tank painted right now and i just put somewhite walls on it. im jealous of the 21 forsure. do u have a myspace
nazirun 4 years ago
i've been thinking of painting my tank too. What color are you going with? Had a myspace, took it off a while ago. I was thinking of painting my tank/rear fender flat black or raw bone metal.
steveCA 4 years ago
im doin like a tear drop metallic black cherry with a silver outline.
