I have one of these with three trays in a wooden frame and the second and third don't get enough water. Alot of plants have wilted because of it And it can leak away from the tray on to the wall I am looking put a irrigation tube through them to finally get proper water distribution. Has taken alot more work then thought Just letting you know
I found it last year at lowes but now its no longer available also gardeners no longer has it. if anyone has any info on where to buy it in the US would greatly appreciate it.
But wouldn't the sun, dry this out before the day is up? The cells look awful little and shallow. The idea is great though! I have seen something similar in a very old container book from the library. You said you grew lettuce.. how often did you water?
Great idea, I bet strawberries would grow well in there. I'm sure there's many ways of solving the space issue. Maybe you could use different materials as dividers. You could tightly frame rows loosely woven cheese cloth, and when the roots take hold they could grow through the cloth, and by the time it disintegrates, the roots of your plants would hold themselves in place. Or you could combine that idea with the plastic divider just make them less tall, and make the tray deeper.
Cute and clever, but how does this actually improve on a flower box? Not at all, as far as I can tell, unless your dorm has only walls and no floor or window sill! They use a system like this for growing on slanted roofs, though, and that is practical and effective use of this design. Going "green" via plastic contraptions that hold a tablespoon of dirt is, to me, not going to feed anybody or do anything signnificant that I can tell. This is sort of like a minimalist Chia Pet.

Have you ever in all your life planted and cared for anything whatsoever? I would doubt it. The garden is NOT about high tech. It concerns the sun, the dirt and the rain. This silly invention is about profit.
Actually yes, I love gardening and I can and do appreciate digging in the dirt. Why would you "doubt it"? Wow. Negativity and now blatant assumptions...
Digging in the dirt is not what this idea is about. It's a design for people with "limited space". Not everyone has the same access to resources (including space).

I did watch the video. I don't want to dump negativity on your creative idea. But this design is most likely going to prove meaningful in a spaceship to Mars or something because the amount of herbs it can handle is miniscule. A window box filled with **soil** is going to allow you to grow much more in a comparable space.

What a great idea! I love it. Is there really enough space for a kale's root system?

Why such a negative take on this? Does every idea have to solve ALL the world's problems?
Why so critical?
Looks like a brilliant low-cost way to grow your own fresh herbs and greens.
I love the thought and intent behind this. Let's expand it to allow growing some large veggie's and fruits (e.g. tomatoes)!!
