damn i need to get this dvd... they should have a hot version usa... i know they already did touge here in the u.s.... but they should do a full blown dvd covering events like super lap battle, battle of he imports, and throw in touge battles as well.. i'm pretty sure they'll get a good response from that. man, i wish i had the coin to buy a GTR. (sigh)
FD's need more then that, need injectors, a much larger intercooler, have you seen the stock intercooler?the surface area is like that of a large kit kat chocolate bar its absolutely pathetic, need some good fuel,as japans fuel is a hell of alot better then most other countries fuels, you also need quite a few reliability components, the vacuum system for the stock turbochargers needs alot of fiddling with so the turbochargers work properly and the car in this vid is running a TD06-20g single turbo
of course other smaller compnents need to be retooled but i was just stating for instance how easy it really is to get power from a late model rotary turbo, i wasnt sure of the specs of the car but amamiya sais many of his street tuned cars run stock turbos as they can make a high out with suporting mods, and were you talking about the stock intercooler on the american imported models or the later japan, aus spec models (rz, bathurst)
I actually own a late model 2000 series 8 Type RS which was imported from japan but anyway if you look at the intercoolers on all the models they are all absolutely pathetic!, they use the same intercoolers for all the models, they are absolutely tiny, and if you look at all the 380ps twin turbo cars (about 371hp), they all have aftermarket intercoolers, i have seen one car that has 380hp with a stock sized intercooler (made by trust), but that had parralel twin turbos made by Knight sport.
your an rx7 pro, i just asumed you were some dumb yank who didnt know anything about late model fds so i just gave a simple and blunt anwser, i still think the late model fd turbos are some of the best around even with a full intercooler. exuast dump pipes, oil cooler, and tuned ecu the 1jzgte turbos can only manage 330-340 at most
Yeah yanks really get on my nerves, but yeah if you look at all the cars that have been tuned with a simple "Boost Up" using mostly factory components, theres are very few that can make 380hp with the stock turbo chargers, which says quite alot to the Mazda engineers, even though the vacuum system is a horrible nightmare.
@hobotechMASTER Yes, you can up the boost by a few psi without altering the engine, but that's a small gain, usually in the 20-50 HP range. If you want to really up power, you would swap turbos, use alloy pistons and valves, use stiffer valve springs, and change out the fuel rail and injectors.

@twinturboteen18 but you have to reinforce the engine itself too if you up boost
eins2001 1 year ago
@eins2001 since you know so much. why not drop knowledge on how to "reinforce" that engine. assuming you know what engine is in there.
fyi. many engines that come turbo will be fine if you up to the boost a bit. without further reinforcing the engine.
