They should be open fishing all year round, sold in restaurants, pet stores, sold in fish markets. They are edible and also make pretty pets. Opening to the public market will definitely slow their destruction of coral reefs.
@TheGipoman We get here at Grand Cayman an average of 500 per event. Last took place last Saturday. Just today I got two. I finished eating them maybe 10 minutes ago.
I think human beings should stop trying to "eradicate " anything even invasive species. because other species of animals seem to suffer during these "eradications". it failed with the snakehead, and that started in a lake . It failed in the great lakes when they poisoned the lake michigan i think and only successfully killed nothing .so you know lets introduce toxins into the largest body of water on earth........what could possibly go wrong? just the opinion of one person i guess.
@1peiceaznboi The poison is in the spines. If stung, you'll feel usually just pain, quite intense that will last for hours/days. In most cases that is the only sign/symptom. Some people experience shallow, localized skin necrosis (death of the skin). It is not lethal, but painful and dangerous enough to be a concern.
There are ways to adapt these guys to aquarium temperatures. They are so beautiful and I believe that the point of this video is that the natural order of things has been messed up by global warming. Were the corals not bleached, lion fish food would be harder to find and they would not have hostile takeover because their prey could hide in all those pretty colors! I really hope the oil doesn't kill them though and we just have some really cool fish tanks and exhibits and we protect the earth!
I'll take 4 off your hands if it's such a problem! I wanted to buy one a few years ago to find out those fish go for thousands of dollars. Start catching them and sell them cheap!
funny how the populations of the fish we don't need are exploding while the fish that we do need are dwindling. Look up the population explosion of the jellyfish and the coral eating star fish.
@LionGoddess1 Every living thing has its place, when something is out of place, it can destroy what belongs there. The lionfish belongs in the Pacific, in the Caribbean, there is no place for it, it destroys large numbers of native fish upsetting the balance of what does belong here. There are far too many of them and they are too dangerous to handle alive for the aquarium trade to be a viable option for dealing with this problem. They taste awesome too.
@knisleyfilms if you sold them at walmart they would most likely hurt someone and promote illegal trade on the black market thumbs up if anybody agrees with me.

i sware if i see anybody killing a lionfish here in cancun ,,you better have a fucking speargun bigger then mine you motherfucker ive speared 2 humans before for killing fish and all i say to authorities (it was an acciddent sorry ,,,then i give the cops like 50$ ) i dont fish i hunt fish hunter and we are now 3 of us and getting biggar ,,,its just to easy ,,hey u want to kill these fish do it in your country because you will cry
You should either eat the fish after you kill them, or invent lionfish fish food. Then you can just feed them that instead of fish. And guninhatersdown, why would you say you speared fish hunters? And your excuse is very funny. So i guess your just saying your words just to show what you feel like, or your just a kid. :P
Yo fucking humans are stupid as shit, who the FUCK put humans in charge of animal population increase/decreases, let nature take its course you stupid fucks
ok, so we just need a predator type fish to help control the population of these lion fish... oh wait. that would be a shark. i guess we've already screwed that one up:P oops

Seen many christian fishers out on the commercial boats... is it overfishing? An organism that may eat a lionfish being overfished therefore leading to more lionfish surviving?
Dunno, tried two different charter boats off the coast once. Many fish caught and thrown back dead...
funny some church guy with his proud t-shirt with a very young girl, hrmm...
anyhew, back on the subject of leaving hooks in fish that are too scary to touch and throwing them back is lame.
Maybe this is a sign that we should leave the oceans alone and not overfish because something like this could happen, finally, nature sent a fish that can be dangerous to humans.
You will almost never hear me say this. But, prehaps they should promote wild caught lion fish for sale in stores. These fish are very expensive in aquarium stores.
well supposably what happened is during a hurricane it smashed a huge tank containing hundreds of lionfish which spilled into the waters and they made massive amounts of offspring
there presence have been reported too where i live (Puerto Rico) on the east side near Icaco island since 2002 but in 2007 they were beginning to spread
oh so you'd rather have a invasive lionfish species that consume around fifty important fish a day in the Caribbean than have the natural fish that are supposed to be there? and yes, they're beautiful, but don't you think that other fish are to? this is becoming a huge problem for the enviroment and people alike
easy said easy done right ,,,but when someone loves these fish ,,and doesnt understand you ,,u will get fucked up check the news and see how many fuckers we are spearing a day here in playa del carmen mexico q,roo biatchhh

If they moved naturally and were not introduced, then I think it's part of the circle of life, and it's not in our right to disrupt it.

I wish all the lionfish were where that BP oil spill off the Gulf was. I knew some very bad lionfish.

We do humans feel like they have to control nature?
mankyman6 8 months ago
As this type of fish has no natural enemies, people will have to
focus on catching these and so, try to bring the population under control.
Where I'm from, an open fishing event was organized on a Saturday
under he supervision the Dept. of Agriculture & Fisheries for a
couple of hours, to catch as many lion fish as possible.
The catch was counted and registered after which it was cleaned,
fried and served to those who participated in the catch.
A total of 79 lion fish were caught.

Funny how once someone sees an animals population growing rapidly they FREAK
and they say they're spreading like a horde of locusts
but they never mention anything about human population.
I mean there's only somewhere around six billion humans on earth (not counting children) so clearly humans aren't at a population crises.
358,192 births and 154,889 deaths as a daily average?
sounds pretty reasonable considering how large we are so clearly we don't need much space or food, oh wait, we do...
