This is basic fear mongering: CBS and the general media's business. Yes hackers exist and they can steal your i.d. and money, but you typically detect them, and banks/credit cards are fully aware of suspicious activity and will automatically, most of the time, freeze a transaction and notify you of it. As for a hacker disrupting the ENTIRE internet, that's simply bullshit. Hackers rely on the web. That's simply the NATURE of hacking. No web no more stealing. Period dot. Fuck the fear mongers.

i put ubuntu on my comp and its funny because the viruses are made for mac and win so i haven't had virus protection for about 6 months now. I'll find some odd files just sitting around like a lame duck waiting to be deleted.

Anti-virus software companies are much sicker than some nut on his own.
Furthermore, software from legit AV software companies (if any) is often much more annoying than the damn virus.

CBS has clearly forgotten how to report news, and instead just wants to use scare-tactics on the average American consumer, who also is the perfect target for this sort of crap. It looks like Vince Serf's segment was severely edited to make Lesley's point look good. Symantec is probably behind this supposed "Conficker" virus. The CBS IT guy was probably thinking what all of us IT people think when something goes wrong at work. "Fucking morons!"
