Gustav Mahler "Komponierhäuschen" in Toblach, - situation in 2011

John Beckett (a musical cousin of the writer and playwright Samuel Beckett) went to Toblach with his partner Ruth David in 1993 and I was told by a friend of his that he and Ruth restored or helped to restore Mahler's Komponierhäuschen there. If that's true, then it has obviously been allowed to deteriorate.John was the conductor of the British early music group, Musica Reservata.

If this area was still a part of Austria, I am sure the house would be cared for much better!

We are aware of the situation, but unfortunately the property is private, so we cannot do anything about it. We feel sorry about that too.

This is wonderful - to see this place - AND disgraceful to see how people - who could be custodians of a musical landmark, a cultural heritage site - treat it as a "thing." It should not be like this. Mahler's birthplace - and his composing hut in the Attersee - rewards people who go to see them. Toblach? The owners spend more money on pig and llama food. If I hated Mahler, this is how I would show my hatred - by treating his composing hut like this. It's over 100 years old; it won't last long.

I think someone should buy the house or property and take care of it. It is tragic to see the place where some of the greatest musical compositions ever composed were written be destroyed by the elements.

The thing is, the house is today a restaurant, and owners are the descendtans of the very family that has hosted Mahler. their restaurant is named MAHLER'S HAUS. BUT they obviously today feel their pigs and "wild park" are THE thing and not the "Häuschen" of Mahler. They were enough "smart" to "Lock" the Häuschen INTO their "wild park" so the people who do not cre for their park still must buy a ticket.

I think english word for this is missuse.

@SirSebastianWang The piece of land where the hut is belongs to one person, nearly everything around it to another, so the owners of the zoo do not own the hut (they used to, but not any more). It's an ongoing dispute... Perhaps something changes in the future, we have to wait and see.

This seems very sad to me, that although Mahler might find it amusing to be in the vicinity of pigs and llamas, the real sadness is that in the cultural community the birthplace of Mahler is not sufficiently important for anyone to have sought money to preserve Mahler's composing hut.

Esto me parece muy triste, porque aunque a Mahler seria posible que le pareciera "chistoso" estar en la vecinidad de los cerdos y las llamas, la tristeza verdadera es que a la comunidad cultural no le importa suficientemente el cuno de Mahler, que no hayan buscado dinero para conservar la casita componista de Mahler.

First at all i find You very close to let us know what You think about and to show us in wich conditions the little house of Mahler is; Obviously very sad and a little ironic (pigs and Mahler...) but it is human conditions ...Mahler's spirit is over and above all that.
