An brief article about the town of Kenmore, published by Scottish Towns Ltd cites some of these lyrics as being an excerpt from a 1903 issue of the satirical "Punch" magazine.
Judging by the date, the Marquess in question was probably Sir Gavin Campbell, 1st Marquess of Breadalbane - b 1851 d 1922
Am assuming that the Benmore mentioned is the one near Crianlarich, rather than Beinn Mhor in Argyll which i think was also Campbell territory, but even so it was a fair stretch of land...
"... from Kenmore to Bendmore, the land is all the Macress'..." It was a story about a Lord or "Macress" who owned the whole countryside and everything in it and ended up leaving in Ruins. By the way, I have no clue on any of the correct spellings... which is likely why I can't find the proper words!
I can't see this one, but I enjoy the song and the bit of humour both from Dougie and you. LOL It's great! I saw Dougie preform recently quite a few times at the Vancouver Folk Festival, and he has a great sense of humour.
I sent an email to Fiona Ritchie from the Thistle & Shamrock NPR site - so I hope to get a reply soon. I think that Dougie said that it was from a poem.
Well, I sure with that I could find them! I have hunted high and low on the web... I don't think that he has ever recorded it. I think that it's one that he just performs in concert. I can't even figure out the proper title! Next person who goes to a Dougie concert, please ask. Sorry.

I think the lyrics are something about...
"They came more to bed more,
Lend us all your mattresses
Doh, no mattresses!
Lend us all your mattresses"

... I think that they go:
"... from Kenmore to Bendmore, the land is all the Macress'..." It was a story about a Lord or "Macress" who owned the whole countryside and everything in it and ended up leaving in Ruins. By the way, I have no clue on any of the correct spellings... which is likely why I can't find the proper words!
