hey dude i am a really big rush fan and counterparts it's one of the best albums of rush, can you do a cover of the song Animate? i love how geddy invented the bass part in that song, please do a cover of animate, thanks for the videos!
Hey guy, you can sing and play simultaneously?,i can play and sing only Limelight, and i think unbelievable this capacity in geddy lee,you should have the same opnion.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this cover, especially the opening section.. You got it note-for-note perfect, as well as replicating Geddy's aggressive plucking style.
I've been watching your videos for awhile now and they've helped me to learn a lot of intricacies of Rush's basslines. Keep 'em coming, there surely can't be much left!
Hey great stuff...I'm pretty critical of RUSH covers but you are truly fantastic. There is a guy on you tube who does Neil Peart tributes, rays2112 , just wondering if you ever saw him? Well back to your vids. My favorite song is Red Sector A
2. Bastille Day, Fly By Night, Lakeside Park are the first few I learned.
3. YYZ, La Villa (mainly the bass solo), Turn The Page, Digital Man
4. I have another playlist of non-RUSH songs on my channel. But RUSH is really the band I'm most passionate about covering. You're free to offer any suggestion you like though. I'll give any suggestion consideration.
Yeah i would listen for notes but sometimes would seen like the song was tuned different than eadg? but Geddy seems to use standard tuning.. No specific notes to learn.. I noticed on permanant waves tour Geddy used a stick Bass which seems harder to play then his Fender.
You're right, Geddy always uses standard tuning except for on a couple of later songs where he tunes his E down to a D.
Geddy used the Rickenbacker on the Permanent Waves tour (this was the first tour I saw them on). I think the first time he used the Steinberger was on the Grace Under Pressure tour.
Wow ! U have such a great tone with that J-bass....I wish i could groove it like u do...I have a hard time grooving....I'm most like a machine player(like a midi thing).I posted this one too,it's awhile now but...Anyway great playing !!!
Thanks. I used to play much more rigidly, stiffly or, as you described it, "machine" - like. It was only after I spent some time away from playing and became a little less self critical and relaxed that my playing loosened up and began to "groove" a bit.
I listen to the bass line and then try to figure out where on the bass it's being played. Some songs are easier than others and sometimes it's a process of elimination - figuring out which notes "aren't" being played in order to track down the correct notes. Then I'll try and play along with the song (or part) to make sure it's correct - if it is I move on, if it's not then it's back to the drawing board.
Do you have a specific song in mind that you need to learn the notes for?
great interpretation!!!! I was always waiting for this cover from you ;-) 1:17 I love this part!!! very clean, and nice ending, is your improv?? Geddy does at some stage??
For the most part, yes. I did take 5-6 lessons from the nice old man where I bought my first bass but he played the organ so they really weren't "bass" lessons. We would play "When The Saints Come Marching In" for a half hour.
Here is a belated massive thank you for this and all of your other videos! I've just started university but you can be sure as anything that getting this tune somewhere close to this standard is my first project. Thanks again.
I learned most of these songs by ear a long time ago and they just stuck with me. Learning by ear can be tedious and frustrating at times but I believe it's the best way to learn. Used in conjunction with the "tabs" I've heard so much about might be good as well.
Just saw this live in August in Chicago Geddy had a sweet solo afterwards, and nice cover btw! Comming from a drummer id love to jam with you man, ive never really jammed with a decent Rush bassist :/
Nice, I've been hoping you would do this one. Great job. The jazz makes sense because it's what Geddy uses on the song, but it would have been interesting to hear it on a Ric.
Nice cover! So, she picked the Jazz, huh? how do you get that bass tone? is it all in the bass or is it the amp and bass
UnforgetableGoat 1 month ago
@UnforgetableGoat
I believe it's mostly in the bass and the way I strike the strings.
TJH3113 1 month ago
@TJH3113 how so, is it more treble on the amp?
