It seems that America's and the industrial world in general twin problems of over-eating and over-spending stem from more fundamental crises of identity. In a world in which we feel less and less connected to others, more anxious and depressed about the present and pessimistic the future, many of us find refuge in over-indulgence. These are symptoms of a greater diseases.
The music at the beginning of the video is nice because it's attract the attention. It's make me want dance. I think the pictures into the video come with the music. The pictures move quily, so we can see lot of colour, brands, people ... consequently we see it like flash.
The beginning of the video doesn't seems like a documentary. The video is good because it's make we think about the consequently of consumerism. But, she disturb the creators of brands.
First we are agree with the doc because we think that too, it's represents the reality.
Indeed people are obsessed about this brands ! Some people live for the consumerism like the people who live for the religion. We are in this situation too all day because we want to be satisfit.
First, I agree with the subject and I think that there is a definite link between Consumerism ans Religion, and what Dr Guy says is true ans interressant.
I also agree with the fact that people look for purpose and meaning, and they look for some kind of morality in Religion.
However, Consumerism tells people how to behave and how to improve their lives, but people will buy things they probably don't need. Today, people are blind and hear lies everywhere.
I agree with this society because consumers want to find happiness through a sign messages to find a reality and the sense of a better life, a better self in the future. I think it's true that new religion have differents links differents functions because there's a lag which means finding a purpus, to find a "king" which gives the shares to people, so still he can tell people how to improve their lives, trying to live a better life like a wonderful holiday.
On the one hand, we think that video is good because what he says is thrue. He do a parralle between religion and consumerism society who is interesting want to criticizes the consumerism society. However it's exagerete that consumerism socialy become an addiction.
@bloodriver3lol we're not being hypocrites. its just that most people are indeed aware of consumerism and the whole wrap-up of things, but choose to ignore it and live passively to this fact. it's just that now most people have low goals or values to work for, and instead live for the present and try to be as comfortable as they can. if we live like our ancestors did, we could keep the production going, instead of halting and going into consumerism.
I really like this video! i'm doing an editorial on this thing for my school newspaper. i went a bit further kinda. I stated that the God(s) of this new religion are Celebrities.
@MeanLab But who is the central spiritual figure (Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, Confucious?) I feel that without one of those, religion will still be central to this world. I guess the government are the Gods and the CEOs are the Prophets, with the celebrities the ministers.

Firtsly, we think that it's amazing that the Doctor Guy did a paralel between religion and consumerism.
A lot of people are addicts to buy. We agree with him because people are influence by the consumer society.
On one hand, according to us, we disagree with him that consumer society is the new religion, because it's look like a sect.

if consumerism didnt exist then you wouldnt be watching this video on youtube, sleeping in a comfy bed drinking a coke or whatever
the people that started this did so for the good of humanity because they lived in poverty
its easy to say you dont need consumerism when you're living the good life generations of ancestors sacrificed for
stop being hypocrites.

@pannoni1 The government are merely puppets for the big Corporations and elite bankers.
I hope people will wake up and get off this road we're on, because it's not leading anywhere good.
