  • Man, I bet ya OSHA was pissed.

  • did he ride on that?

  • guardian(dot)co(dot)uk/world/2007/jan/17/afghanistan.military

  • The OH-58D pilots did not have their helmets (as they ditched them while evading insurgents) so the one outside suffered a little bit of wind burn as the Apache got up to about 110 knots on the way back to base. Ironically, the AH-64D pilot on the outside was the back seater in a second Spur-ride several months later when his wingman was shot down.

  • Wow, some truth in the comments however most is inaccurrate. This was a U.S. Army AH-64D Longbow from Alpha Company 1-227th, 1st CAV. The Apache landed to extract the crew of a OH-58D that was shot down. One of the oh-58D pilots was slightly injured so he got in the front seat. The AH-64D front seater was on the right side(visible in the video) the second uninjured OH-58D pilot was on the left side. Both were strapped to the fuselage by harness and caribiner.

  • This gives a whole new meaning to Wing Man...

  • I don't understand what I'm looking at. Great that it happened but I can't pick anything out. Looks like the apacke got his groceries on his wing.

  • New meaning of "Heros" Thank you for all that have served, past, on duty and future. From "1ProudMarineDad"

  • NICE GUYS NOBODY GETS LEFT BEHIND !!!

  • That would be a cold, windy, noisy ride on the wing of an Apache.

  • GOD BLESS THE TROOPS ,,AUSTRALIAN ,,UK,,US,,,CANADIAN,,TAKE CARE MATE ,FROM YOUR FRIENDS IN AUSTRALIA ,,TROOPS THANK YOU

  • Read APACHE and HELLFIRE, both written by the Pilot, Ed Macy! Fantastic insight into what these boys and girls do over there. Truly gripping books!

  • DID YOU KNOW apache helis were designed in the vietnam war, they were made like this to avoid RPGs and other weapons used by insurgents also they were designed because it was not meant to pick anyone up (ps please no hate mail)

  • @smurfsniffer your 100 percent right, during the first part of vietnam, we use modified hueys, but they where to big, so the army and marines came up with the cobra, the first real gunship, it was thin and light allowing it to maneuver and avoid enemy fire, and the company that made the apache modeled it after the cobra, and the marines got the super cobra

  • @demon07nd ty

  • @demon07nd ist there an upgraded version of the apache?

  • @TheHUsoldier6 yep i think there called the long bow, but i m not sure

  • @demon07nd

they're called Longbow...and they are over there.

    [

  • @smurfsniffer (ps no hate mail)? Really? Are you THAT sensative?

  • @jonesy97 no not really.. just dont want any redneck douche bags to fill my inbox with 'gee, damn you it was made to fight the commies/ nazis/ vietcong/koreans because we were to awesome, GOD BLESS AMERICA!' it would get annoying.

  • @smurfsniffer Then tag it,"No illiterate, uneducated, overly patriotic, redneck responses, please!" Lol.

  • @jonesy97 hahah good one ill keep that in mind

  • AsJ4cKRul3 sats below, they were Royal Marines strapped to the gunships.

  • It was a British Apache, piloted by Ed Macy rescuing Lance Corporal Mathew Ford at Jugroom Fort who later died from his injuries.

  • very well done and good iniative there... that is what the coalition wants but to be strapped outside the helo next to the air intake he must be freezing and deaf!

  • @system4131 Better off with hypothermia and deaf than dead.

  • US,UK, AUSTRALIAN, FORCES YOUR THE BEST MATE, STAY SAFE, GOD BLESS, FROM AUSTRALIA, COME HOME SAFE

  • Chuck norris does that just going to work.

  • Wings of the Marne!

    1992-1997

  • Wow! Can't everyone just Chill! Very nice Vid, Also I want to say Thanks to all that put their ass on the line every day! You know for assholes that like to put rude comments on just about everything?

    Thanks sternman1

  • It was better when the RMs went in, strapped to the pylons. That was ballsy.

  • What a wonderful ride!

  • I have some new rescue footage on my channel of a Apache and blackhawk

  • @BF2MC3 yhea and its a video game LMAO I know I have that game too LOL

  • Man you guys are HEROES.. Thanks for all you do for the soldiers in the ground..

    Ranger class 09-92

    Mog Rangers 3/5

    RLTW!!!

  • If I'd see one of those choppers I will trace it with a tracer dart and then grab the Carl Gustav from under my bed to keep the sky clean of Americans.

  • @JJJJJJ023 How cute :)

  • @JJJJJJ023 By time you would see us you would already be dead.

  • @JJJJJJ023 Rofl, as much as i want to laugh i won't cuz im American, and even if you did hit it the Armour would protect it, bfbc2 makes it weaker because of fair gameplay purposes,

  • @JJJJJJ023 as if it were that easy... you stupid

  • we be doing a similar thing in bavaria... we lie down on top of cars and drive through the outback. gets nasty when your driver hits the shrubs. but its always fun.

  • Then its not a longbow Dumbass

  • Better not let the FAA see this!---Just kidding, you guys rock!

  • @erkansent Fanatic FAIL

  • so Apache does have a troop transport capability. must have been helluva ride

  • umm where the hell they fit? Must be alot of grab assen goin on as they fly back to base

  • They dont use the longbow because Afghnistan is so hot n high. They need the weight for more fuel and weapons . Brit Apaches have more powerful Rolls Royce engines. They can carry the fuel, weapons and the radar. The radar has a useful night terrain following mode. Very good in the mountains.

  • so there is a downed pilot on the gun wing of the apache?

  • Comment removed

  • Guys It doesnt matter Who did it first as Long they Keeping there soldiers safe....

  • Was this not one of Ed Macey's missions? Apparently the pilot of this courageous mission, was disciplined on the basis that the soldier rescued by him, was already sadly deceased? But of course the rescue personnel, in spite of their optics et al, could not determine the actual condition of the fallen soldier; it was simply feared that he might be captured by the Taliban occupyers of the fort...and that does not even bear thinking about! Appreciate the vid blackfive. Best wishes.

  • The royal marines did somthing similar to this but used 3 apaches 2 landed one giving cover and 4 marines got out and got l/cpl ford back.

Even the gunner of the apache got out and left the helicopter for 5 mins underfire.

Sadly mathew ford was already dead.

  • spur ride baby

  • holy shit i never seen stuff like that

  • was this at Lake Tharthar?

  • i was n the toc for this

  • that would be a heck of a story to tell!

  • I bet your mom was pro-life. You're proof we abort all the wrong fetuses.

  • You're wrong, the fetus was correctly aborted, that's your dad. Anything to say about fake rescue operations by the US army? I see...

  • @bert666666 The pilot of the apache was a guy named Ed Macy. I read his book in which he describes in great detail the rescue attempt in which they thought Matty was alive. Dont belittle people great heroism by thinking everything you see on the internet is fake

  • It's not something I see on internet, man. The private Lynch story wasn't an internet story, it ,was a mainstream story, but still a fake. the same for the death of Pat Tillman, or countless example. This is not heroism, because this war is a crime against humanity and because you're not a hero when you fight a butterfly with a bazooka. Those guys are criminal or accomplice, but no heroes. And Blair also invented "smoking guns" and else. It's not internet fake, it's political fake.

  • Please tell me that you are not American or British. If you are this is part of the problem. Iraqis ans Afghans all stand behind their fighters. It does not matter wether its a butterfly or a highly trained soldier standing behind a bazooka as its the warhead that does all the killing and maiming of innocent iraqis or young men fighting for the freedom of others .This and yet you call them criminals

  • so we're supposed to go down to their level and throw rocks instead of bullets and missiles?

  • mate, ed macys book was best book i ever read yeah but this video aint that. This is a u.s apache cos theres no longbow radar above the rotor blades like on our badboy apaches from the U.K. Theres videos and pictures of ed macys rescue and its all true. maybe the yanks fake it but not us :P

  • Glad you enjoed that book mate is was class. Definetley a story that deserved to be told well. Please now read "we were one" A story of how the U.S Marines battled for Fallujah, An inspirational story of brotherhood in war. ENJOY

  • haha, you do realize Longbow radar was originally outfitted on US ARMY AH-64D Apaches and was produced and designed by Lockheed-Martin USA! as the fire control system for it's newly designed Hellfire missile in 1997...go figure right? just another ignorant brit you guys crack me up

  • @vintrise93 im british but its mainly the US Army Apache's that have the radar and they installed it first. We made the spitfire, but they did make the apache.

  • @xGODZILLAFIREFOXx ahh well haha. the apaches are amazing machines. ill give the u.s credit for that.

  • Apache is showing its age. But can still rain a shitload of death and hell on the enemy, especially rag tag pukes like insurgents

and oh yeah it can kill tanks n other goodies

  • apache can see through buildings can't eat? Its using infra red and heat vision thing :0..

  • i read the mood that one of the main pilots in the rescue, ed macy, wrote. This is the part where they asked for volunteer's to strap themselves to the apache. One unlucky bastard didnt get strap, so he just had to hang on to the apache.

  • Well, on both sides of the fuse there are handles for the crew, and there's a fairly large flat surface. I've been told by a 64 pilot that only in a DIRE emergency will they have somebody sit on the side of the helo and hang on. Must be a hell of a ride...

  • one of the Para's has to test-fire his weapon on the way there. it freaked out the pilots well enough. And they straps on the side of the helo arent supposed to be used AT ALL but are there as a precaution. Before this they had never been used in practice

  • and to end this argument about who did this first the brits or the american, or this is british because it has an FCR. the first one was done in 2003 by A Trp 6/6 Cav at the kickoff of the war. 2nd American 64s have longbow radars as well but its retarded to have 400 lbs of dead weight because unless you guys have been living under rocks, the iraqis and afghanis havent been coming at us with tanks in over 5 years, so its useless. Besides, with the TOMI system due out soon, who needs lonbow?

  • with the british apaches bigger rolls royces engines its not dead weight

  • 12345senseswork -- I like your comeback! When will our US cousins lean that all Apaches have longbow in the british army, because it does not make sence not to!! and as for the engines..... lol

  • when you will brits learn that the Longbow FCR is obsolete cuz in case you havent noticed were not shooting tanks anymore.

  • Are you a complete idiot? You think the Apeche was build only for fighting in Iraw and Afghanistan. What if the war in Korea lit up again. They have tanks, and that radar is well needed. Just because there are no enemy tanks in this particular case, it doesn't mean they should get rit of it.

  • you do realize that the FCR IS obselete. Late block II and the new block III aircraft have the TOMI system installed, which means you cant have an FCR anyway. plus with all new MODS (ie CMWS, HF, MTADS, ASPI) if they had a full load they cant even get off the ground cuz theyre too heavy. so before you go talking smack thinking you know everything make sure the dude isnt a god damn 64 mechanic

  • The americans have A and D variants. The D's carry Longbow on some occasions with the Americans. The Longbow being used first by the Americans, our (AAC) Longbow system being upgraded to that of the American Longbow. However as islesfan11 says, Longbow is useless against the Taliban, where all targetting is done by visual acquisition.

  • that sum awesomenes right there

  • is tht even safe to ride on the side?

  • The Apaches are equipped with a ring on each weapons pylon for the purpose of rescuing other downed pilots-they can hook on and ride the pylon to safety. I read it in the book "Not A Good Day to Die" about the war in Afghanistan.

  • i think this has been published into a book called ed macy APACHE

  • yup

  • Webster ,why didnt they just use some aac doorgunners then?

  • Because this was during a major operation being carried out by the Royal Marines, and it was one of their guys that needed rescuing. Time critical, and not wating the naughty boys getting to the Marine, they did what they did as they did not have time to refuel. Its all in the book matey

  • wow congratualtions now stop looking for fights about whose militaries the best on us military videos

  • Comment removed

  • @MrAngelheart79 YEAH BECAUSE THIS DOESN'T MATTER IF SOMEONE ELSE ALREADY DID IT ONCE, RIGHT?

  • @MrAngelheart79 i dont think it really matters who did what 1st or 2nd... its a brave rescue, not a contest

  • @MrAngelheart79 nobody cares but you...

  • @MrAngelheart79 it was shown in the 1980's lol. first in combat ya sure.

  • @MrAngelheart79 Thats nice... where did they get the Longbow?

  • @alphaXbeta6 The British use modified Longbows, Apache AH1's.

  • @MrAngelheart79 doesn't matter who did it first. they saved someones life

  • @MrAngelheart79 Israel did it first :)

  • @ezana9 after killing a shit load of innocent people for no reason other thank rampant fascism. Awesome.

  • this is 1-227 picking up two 3ID KW pilots on 2 jul 07. this is a longbow AH-64D, (radar not installed). The pilot riding on the left was one of the KW pi's, on the right is the 64's CPG (frontseat); he got out to allow the other KW pi to ride in his seat. Both 64 pi's received DFC's(distingushed flying cross) for their brave actions on this day. I know all of this as FACT, because I was piloting the aircraft that shot the video. Avenger 25

  • awsome

  • dude, you're awesome

  • I love the way the the pilots throw caution to the wind to save a life of a colleague they don't even know. This is what the armed forces is all about, looking after your oppo and getting the job done.

  • I think Kiwas are also awesome machinery

  • @cr1ms0n71

not all of us are pilots.

  • @cr1ms0n71 AH-64 ... dont put the D ... D = radar version so if theres no radar no D :P

  • @premman19942

Incorrect. Radar is removable it doesn't need to have it on to be a D model Longbow. A lot of the times in middle east wars they don't bother using them since there's no armor to kill or anything.

  • @OlderG0ds Yeah i know now... I was wrong ^^

  • @cr1ms0n71 God bless you, thank you for your service!

  • @cr1ms0n71 Awesome thanks for your service!

  • @cr1ms0n71 Respect to you mate.

  • @cr1ms0n71 wow...and they already have the video POSTED ON YOUTUBE the VERY NEXT DAY!! WOW!!! That means you must be over there right now on youtube...SHUT THE FUCK UP you are very much full of shit. that is a soldier picking up the body of another. The apache came in to help after the soldier requested an immediate medevac...didn't work..the soldier was dead by the time they arrived back on base. stop pretending to be in the military you fuck.

  • @p51pilot28 and other doubters, Youtube - Moment of Valor 9. If you served, thank you. If not, you may now STFU.

  • @cr1ms0n71 This shows US cares

  • @F35JSFA1 by strapping them to the outside of a fuckin helicopter? haha

  • @cr1ms0n71 Dont lie about shit like that m8, just stick 2 playin COD

  • @cr1ms0n71

    cool story bro

  • @cr1ms0n71 and thank u for doing a good job over ther. support the troops all the way

  • @cr1ms0n71

Stop lying. It was me everyone.

  • The Real Spur Ride bitches.

  • that is 1/227 cause they where the first with the exhaust nozzles

  • yeah 1/227av regt is the shit and that was my bird

  • too bad 1/227 is not part of 3rd ID like the video says this clip is from. that is a 1-3 Combat Aviation Brigade helicopter there my friend.

  • thats insane! (and highly dangerous)

  • it's not. this way of evacuating a wounded soldier is pretty normal. the soldier is inside on the seat and the co-pilot is strapped to the side of the helo with a special securitybelt. he can sit there pretty comfortable.

  • I thought longbow had a Rolls Royce motor in it!

  • British ones do

  • Is this Ed Macy's rescue or something else?

  • If you are going to make comments on something know what you are talking about moron. Longbows do not have different engines then AH-64D's. It's nothing to do with weight. Not every unit has Longbows. If you have a Longbow Scout OH-58 then you dont need them all to be Longbows.

  • dang thats badass that like rambo status.

  • This is the american because there is no longbow radar on top because the american apaches don't have enough power in their engines to lift the extra wieght.

  • uh yea they do guy, i work on them, they definatly have enough power to carry them, just not all of them have them. its not needed for all of them to have them.

  • They only have enough power when you put the new engine in like the the british apaches which have the bigger royles royse engines. and not all of the american ones have enough power to lift them and that coming from an american engineers who was out in afganistan when i was. And why the hell would you not put something on when it would give you a bigger strateegical advantage over you enermy?!?!? Think about it

  • because if you know anything about the radar system you would know that you only need one aircraft with the radar, it can designate targets and send them to other aircraft without the other aircraft requiring the radar dome. as for the engines, as long as they have the C model engines (which all the american models do) then they can fly the radar dome. plus the weight the radar adds decreeses the amount of time it can remain in combat at one time. nothing to do with the engines

  • Look Numb Nuts, there is a spell checker for firefox, why don't you get it, then you can spell Rolls Royce and other big words like strategical without making an arse of yourself.

  • ok so i carnt spell a few words so the fuk wot???? i was half asleep wen i rowt that so i cudnt hav cared less bowt ma spellin

n i know i hav put som bad spelling in there n u dnt need to be a smart arse n point them out

  • you should rest yourself but you write the comments, sleep is very important

  • Yes you are totally right, it was a cheap shot but it was also a piece of advice but I guess judging by your reply, you didn't bother to get the spell checker.

  • nope. but my spelling ant brillient so it might be an idea lol

  • learn to spell, do a bit of research then argue, not before

  • cudnt be arsed wi the spelling. n do u tink fukin workin on them all day evriday for a livin is enuf research for u arsehole

  • wow that's hardcore, damn good pilot and brave guys sitting on the wings

  • Was this the one during op anaconda?

  • and yes the person on the wing you see first is actually the apaches co-pilot. the person in his seat was one of the kiowa pilots because he was scared shitless (which i would have been too if i was shot down) and the pilots didnt think he was stable enough to hold on so they put him in the seat. the person you see hop down when they land it the other kiowa pilot.

  • no its not the brits. no the guy wasnt dead when they got there. those were two kiowa pilots who were shot down and an apache crew from my unit picked them up and then an f-16 came and blew up the kiowa in place.

  • yerrr its not the Brits but im afraid we did do this before the Americans

  • like your film

look at this film its now

    what is it used for

  • um no.

  • it was british marines and a apache pilot called ed macy who tried to rescue the marine

  • i read the book about that its gr8

  • That was a different incident, but similar circumstances

  • This video has been messed with - this is in fact a British Apache going to pick up a injured marine in afgan. when they found him he was sadly dead.

  • its not the ed macey 1 coz u can see the apache doesnt have the longbow radar which both apaches in the rescue of mathew ford had

  • You're right, good spot! It's definitely not the Brits.

  • Yeah i gues he couldt seat on the gunners lap?

  • He sure gets around pretty good for being injured, He hops right off and skips around the helicopter. Something tells me this is not the rescue of an injured soldier.

  • Possibly the supporting troops that attached themselves to the side like the brits did?

  • they put the wounded soldier in the cockpit and had the copiolet sit on the wing, so the guy you see walking is not wounded

  • Yes, Warrior shot through the heart and a ricochet ak bullet, with a third unidentified.

Also that is Ed Macy's guntape isn't it? Viewing Ugly-Five-Zero.

  • This one isn't Ed Macy, or even AAC. This video is the US Apaches performing a similar op but on a different occasion after the brits did it at Jugroom

  • Ohh. Cos he landed in the desert as well.

  • its bin proven that matthew ford was killed by his own boys, by accident!

  • om lord did eh really sit on the side of that apache ???

  • Yep but the british did it first in combat

  • can i ask what u ment when u replied this way are u just saying that it was us hu did it first or is this actually a british person ?? ( btw im british )

  • This video is the yanks. We (the british) however did the first ever rescue in combat at Jugroom Fort, Afghan involving army air corps apaches (2 on raid with 2 doing close air support), and royal marines. The proceedure is taught to apache crews in the event they are downed and they can clip onto their wingmans aircraft.

  • The royal marines used the aircrews karabiners to clip on but one marine went in without being clipped on as there wasnt enough clips and on the way back 2/3 werent clipped on as they needed to secure the marines body to the aircraft

  • The guys who did the rescue didn't even zero there sights.(They was never given the chance.)

  • lol i no hes crazy

  • These were British Royal Marines who went out too rescue another Marine (Lance Corporal Mathew Ford) but sadly he died. Google his name if you don't believe me.

  • mate this is a rescue attempt from the americans on a different occasion. The apaches are different from the army air corps/RM rescue at jugroom fort to rescue Ford
