I love Alcazar, BUT this a is wretched cover of a wretched cover, and all of the other covers of that cover are wretched, too.
The Fortunes version was good, and so was the Beach Boys. For me, the best was the Kingston Trio.
Brel's original was a caustic farewell. He's mainly entrusting his unfaithful wife, whom he still loves, to others (including her lover!). The chorus was about wanting everyone to party like fools when they plant him. It's really not a very Alcazar kind of song.
I found a truly great cover of this awful sanitized adaptation. It's by the Global Deejays. (I found it here on YouTube.) It manages to avoid the self-indulgence by performing it at breakneck speed with no emotion in the voice whatsoever. I think that's about the only way to save it.
