To me, The Mongolian Stomper was promoted like Abdullah the Butcher. He never talked and always had a manager. And like Abdullah, Stomper was promoted as a monster heel.
April 12, 1981 (Sunday) Atlanta, GA Omni Coliseum [P] (Paul Jones (01) Promoter / Georgia Championship Wrestling) > Steve Keirn over the French Angel (02) > Roberto Soto over Gypsy Joe (02) > Robert Gibson over Jim Duggan > Tony Atlas versus the Mongolian Stomper ended in a no contest > Ole Anderson & Gene Anderson and Mr. Wrestling #2 (01) & the Masked Superstar went to a draw > National Heavyweight Title Match: Steve Olsonoski* over Bobby Eaton >
Tommy Rich & the Junkyard Dog over the Freebirds (01) (Terry Gordy & Buddy Roberts) > Texas Bullrope Match: Dusty Rhodes over Don Carson / Notes: Eaton substituted for Dick Slater in the match against Olsonoski. Carson managed the Stomper. The Stomper was in Carsons corner during the match against Rhodes. Michael Hayes was in the Freebirds corner during the match against Rich and the Dog.
I swear to God in 1999 throughout 2002 I was doin time at the Sheriffs Dentention facility out on Maloneyville Rd. outside Knoxville TN and right there stands the kitchen gaurd. Archie (Mongolian Stomper)he would ride a bike from Johnson City to Knoxville which is 1/2 hr by car.
Archie was a very quiet guard and NOONE gave him shit.People had only respect and admiration for him.I noticed in the pass door one time that he all these scars across his forehead.Straight line Scars where he'd cut himself or been cut.He told another inmate that the one guy everyone hated to fight was Abdullah the Butcher cause he was crazy for real.
#3 then that guy said Hell back then all the wrestlers were crazy and Archie (Stomper) said "Yes, but he couldnt turn it on and off and really hurt people" Guess like the Butcher was really mentally insane. Archie was about 68-70 then and I bet hes still alive cause he was in top notch A1 shape, better than most men half his age. There was a rumor that he was banging the lady that was in charge of the Kitchen too.
I spoke with Bill Dundee once and asked him about "THE STOMPER...He replied and laughed.."THAT FUCKING ARCHIE"! "You talk about IN SHAPE!..He rode a bike from one town to another and that big spring he used to bend he got it off the seat of an old truck"...He laughed and said..ME AND GEORGE BARNES COULDN"T EVEN BUDGE THE DAMN THING!...Works for the Knoxville Sheriff's dept. these days I believe...
I know when Archie wrestled for Southeast championship wrestling, he did on a regular basis. His conditioning was no joke. Every week he would do some sort of feat of strength, on TV. I remember one week he did full body squats for an hour. Another week he raced a horse. When Don Carson or Gorgeous George Jr. would do interviews, Archie would bend this spring back and forth.
Mongolian Stomper was the Kitchen gaurd over there. I worked in the kitchen awhile. True, he used to ride a Bike from Johnson City, TN to Knoxville at probably 65 years old. He had scars all over his forehead I guess where he used to cut himself. Weird thing, he seemed like talking to us(When he talked he was very quiet) more than the other officers. Pretty cool old guy really, ya know, I mean compared to a lot of bullying gaurds.
Difference between Stomper and Batista is that Stomper didn't tear his bicep while jogging because he was on the roids. Stomper didn't need roids. The guy was a true tank.
Archie Gouldie never spoke when he did his Mongolian Stomper gimmick. He always had his manager do the talking. Archie was the perfect heel. And at that time, he was probably the best conditioned wrestler. He was known to ride his bike from Arena to Arena.
@mcfrs Actually he did speak on occasion...Very rarely however...I remember when he was in the southeastern area he had a feud going with Joe Leduc and during the interview with Gorgeous George jr his manager at the time, Archie suddenly jumped up and started screaming at Leduc...Clean english and boy was he pissed lol...I used to talk to his wife when i was a kid at the matches growing up...Such a sweet lady and he was a class act as well...A true great!
I wish he tag teamed with Maniac Mark Lewin...

Don Carson was actually a pretty good babyface at one time, but in only a few areas. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin reminds me of him somewhat.
In person, I remember him being a really nice guy, very neat.

He did every so often. I've got an awesome promo he did in the late 70's from Memphis after Lawler turned on him. I'll post it sooner or later.

@Ansom13
Wow! I don't know if I could have my wife at the matches, especially if I was a heel.
Corbin, Ky wrestling fans were famous for fighting the heels. There is no way in the world, I would mess with Archie. No way!!
Archie needs to do a shoot interview.
