if you go into the movie comparing it to the old movie you won't like it (because that was a comedy classic) but if you think about it as it's own take on the original then you will like it,
i did.
russell brand was really good in this plus it had some other good performances as well,i really enjoyed the film.3/5 schmoes.
judy denchworth would do coronation street if the price was right. regarding brandname, why get a witless lanky twat to play a witty diminutive chap? you gave it 3 cos you're a douche.
Alright...we all know I can't stand Russell Brand (well, I guess u wouldn't know that since you never watched my videos *wink wink*) and I have to say something here,...THAT has not changed...thank you and good night,
its good to hear you mention that this is a remake. I'm personally still not sure about this film as i love the Dudley Moore version and i hate Russell brand lol.
I watched Arthur yesterday (the day it came out) and I must say that I quite enjoyed it! I don't really care whether it was a remake or not, as long as the remaked movie pays it's respect to the original. I LOVED it. Maybe I'm a sucker for comedy-- for the sake of laughing, I'd love anything if it made me laugh. It had a great storyline too. I'd read it if it were a book! If someone asked me if I were to see this movie again, I would. :D Russell Brand did a great job at acting. ^-^
The clips I saw looked pretty good. The first Arthur was great for its time, but laughing at alcoholics isn't as much in vogue, or encouraged. I didn't like any of the Steve Martin remakes (Pink Panther, etc.) even though I love Steve Martin. But I think Russell Brand is the perfect choice for the "2011 Arthur"....
Is the original Dudley Moore film really a classic? The duo between Arthur and Hobson were hilarious but the movie kinda got a little slow and dull when they weren't on screen. Having said that, Dudley Moore is the epitome of the "Drunkard" when I think of a drunk in cinema. He's brilliant. Anyway, I'm excited for this film because it seems as though the humor has been modified due to the modern times. Is it a good date movie? I have a feeling that this is a better date movie than Your Highness.
I usually don't go for this kind of thing but the trailer was very funny. I'll wait till this comes out on blu ray and then download it. That bitch from Greenberg is an annoying cunt by the way. I find it astonishing that anyone would cast her in a film.
i love you guys but the little annotations that keep coming up seem a little desparate i thnk u should just let it happen rather than pleading coz i have a lot of respect for u guys and i love ur reviews
@bobolishas Well definitely respect the feedback bobo, but since we started doing those, our subs have gone up and our videos have been featured more. Thank you for watching the reviews! Really glad you dig them.
this was a little different for me watching a review with both of you guys, but only one of you actually saw the movie... still not bad of a review, just...different.
Hey, I talk you guys up as much as I can. I know I've shared over on Facebook a few times. Don't think you have much to worry about, as IMHO you one of the better things going on YouTube.
As for the film, I'm surprised to find folks seem to like it. I know my reaction to the trailer was just, "Why?" I'm also not especially fond of Brand anyway.
@sachaput Totally understand that, and I felt the same going in, not particularly a Brand fan but I wanted to be fair and I didn't hate the movie, I found myself rooting for him.
@schmoesknow Saw Brand interviewed the other week on the TODAY SHOW. I actually found him likable for the first time. Still a bit manic, but he did acknowledge that they were trying to do something a bit different than simply a complete remake.
Concern: I woud love to share on Facebook, but I'm a teacher and am linked to my students. Sometimes you guys cuss (hey, you're adults) and I can't link that stuff knowing my students would believe I am endorsing foul language. Something to think about...and yes, I feel like a complete moron telling you to watch your language. :) Keep up the good works, guys!
@schmoesknow Thanks for the reply. I think the lack of cussing is one of your greatest charms--makes you seem more like a couple of innocent boys getting pumped for flicks--very likable.
Do you think Russell Brand is finally learning to calm down or that hollywood is giving him a chance to? I find that's what I don't like about a lot of the big comedy guys (Jim Carrey, sometimes Will Ferrell) I always like them more when they calm down and give a punch line rather than just popping a giant caffeine pill the size of my head and recording what happens.
@maxxmaulion Ha, funny that the 3 out of 5 is high, considering most people thought it would be dreadful. If I had to pick between this or Your Highness though, I would take your Highness. That review will be up tomorrow night.
I have a built-in anti-bias for this movie because R Brand annoys me. He's from the Robin Williams/Jim Carrey and DUDLEY MOORE school of A LITTLE BIT GOES A LONG WAY and NO SCENERY WILL BE LEFT UN-CHEWED.
I also can't stand Russell's greasy hair. (I know... I have become my parents.)
BUT... you are a review show, and you've given this a very fair shake from what I can see. I wish Russell Brand no ill will, he just doesn't do it for me.
@REDchairDIARIES Yeah Michael I echo your sentiments but as much as I wanted to hate him in this, I couldn't. He was likeable and gave Arthur a lot of character. I had a huge anti-bias. Is it the best movie out there? No. But it is a fun movie with heart and that is all I can ask for.

My favourite line from Arthur is "a real woman could stop you from drinking" Arthur "it would have to be a real big woman" Did that make it in?
