  • GOOD CHOICE ON THE MOWER (HUSQVARNA) WITH DRIVE.

FEW PEOPLE REALLY BREAK DOWN "THINGS" TO BE COMPOSTED.

EITHER DON'T KNOW OR DON'T NEED TO.

IN ANY CASE, THE SMALL YOU BREAK IT DOWN IT """REALLY SPEEDS""" UP THE PROCESS.

LIKE ICE ON A HOT ROAD 10 LB. BLOCK VS 10 LBS OF SHAVED ICE.

I PESONALLY WOULD ADD SOME PREVIOUS COMPOST THE LIVE MICROORGANISMS ARE LIVE AND READY TO GO FOR A BETTER COMPOST AND BREAK DOWN.

    I REALLY ENJOYED YOUR VIDEO.

IGNORE THE "" BURROS REBUZNANDO"" THEY ARE JUST BURROS.

  • Thanks for the awesome video. I had one question, do I need the bungs (stoppers for the holes) to keep the compost in, or will it be ok if those bungs are missing?

  • Neat! Except you're using gasoline and polluting our world. Emissions made from compost are bad as well. The plastic barrel has its own carbon footprint and the metal had to be mined, the ore raped from our earth.

On second thought, think I'll do it the old fashioned way and just rotate my large compost pile.

  • @metamech except the barrel was already made, and the gasses from the compost are the very same that are created on the forest floor every single day. Where else do you suppose we get metal? You act as though composting causes greenhouse gasses, yet you mention your own compost pile? That is odd...

  • awesome video :)

  • Great video!! People get too dependent on supermarkets nowadays they forget they can grow their own stuff and save a lot while helping protect the environment.

  • @AlbertLloydy Growing your own is never cheaper than purchasing.

  • @flanksteak2 Yes it is.. Based on my experience..

  • Loved the video, I would never have worked out to use a lawnmower to break up compost. I have a broken garden shredder but that'll get fixed after I have finished everything else, I'm not holding breath.

This method will do nicely in the meantime.

    thank you.

  • I'd say using human urine is only okay for you plants if it isnt very concentrated. Tip:If your urine is yellow its too concentrated and also mean you need to be drinking more water. Urine is supposed to be clear like water.

  • Great video and loved the music. The global warming thing is crap though. Still the video was great and the idea is great too. Interesting angle on the urine. I had never thought about that. A professional athlete could grow strawberries the size of watermelons with all the steriods in their pee. :>)

  • wow thats a sweet looking pad you have there. much happier place than usa....

  • good videoo and music!

  • Excellent video - very informative!

  • Love the music! I was dancing in my chair the whole time! LOL

But you don't need pee to activate a compost pile. Just water is fine. It'll start cooking pronto.

  • Wow, excellent video. It is put together really well. I am going to build a compost tumbler.

  • If urine is so great then how come my pepper plants die when stray mutts piss on em?

  • Awesome, I'm going to start peeing on my compost pile!

  • Can you make your next video for your composting fans on how to Merengue dance while turning the compost pile? Maybe you can sell us a cheap pirated copy of Tono Rosario or something...or a good Bachata.

  • @awlms pause the video.

  • Video is too fast and can't read it as it scrolls too quickly. Can't see each step

  • @cloggingmom pause the video.

  • Thank you for the advise. I enjoyed watching your video. Great background music!

  • Great video.

  • thanks, I made one, just getting started

  • great info

    pleasant music

    no buddy

    kares

    abowt

    speling

    aneeway

    thanks a lot

  • Thanks for the video! I'm now on the lookout for used 55-gallon drums in my area. :-)

  • I thought the misspellings were charming. ;) I like this idea for a composter. Looks easy enough and I generate quite a bit of kitchen waste. Right now I have 3 piles and it takes roughly 12 months for them to break down.

  • lawn mower! GAH, here I was wondering how I could mulch all this stuff without a shredder. That's a forehead slapper (why didn't I think of that).

  • 4 parts nitrogen 1 part carbon, ideal cooking temp 140 to 150 f if it turns white is too dry and if it turns green is too wet and the most important part, when you first compost is ready add some of it to your new compost so it will speed up. ;)

  • Great video! I enjoyed watching it. I laughed when you said to use the lawnmower to mow down everything in your path, then showed your chickens around you while you were mowing. (We have chickens, so I know the maure is fabulous for a nitrogen source. I know you didn't mean that we should mow down the chickens. ;) )

  • I thought you were viewing MY VIDEO because YOU were interested in learning on how to compost in 21 days? correct me if I'm wrong......

  • @Bongosmania Don't let them get you down, I think you did wonderfully.

  • @nsgibson maybe english isn't her primary language; i'm sure the citizens of some other developed countries have computer and internet technology

  • @nsgibson discompose a file! I don't know, but I think it's kinda catchy. Hey, we all make mistakes and if you can't laugh at yourself, then you're too UPTIGHT!

  • @nsgibson And yet they have the knowledge and resourcefulness to build their own composter. If I had to pick that or good spelling, it's a no-brainer.

  • @nsgibson You're a moron. This person can't write in English perfectly? So what? How many languages other than English can you write in? How many can you speak fluently? How many videos have you posted in something other than your native language?

    Thought so...

The poster of this video is clearly at least bi-lingual. I understood all of it. Most of the rest of the world is multi-lingual. How about you?

    You're a moron.

  • @nsgibson Don't be a douche bag...or be one...whatever.

  • Great DIY video, thanks for sharing it!

  • very practical thank you will try it ...wanna ask you something i started a mini compost with grass clippings veg.peels and dried leaves and its been almost 2 months it rained alot and it became really soggy when i was raking it( i was staring at it ) found lots and lots of little tiny worms and tiny cocoons is that normal or theres something wrong? its my first time and thanks again 4 the vid.

  • @amyamy7777777 hi, you are making worm compost add some dirt news paper coffee and tea bags, i was just looking at the video and i saw your comment. or you can remove the worms and use the same stuff you're using to feed them in a new box, keep the soil wet and the food cover with dirt, then you can use worm castings or castings tea... but now im gonna answer your Question about the compost i think is too wet you need to add more carbon less nitrogen all you have now is nitrogen. out of letter

  • I like it, very economical and grinding it up with your lawn mower to make things decompose faster is brilliant. It can take months otherwise.

  • AWESOME! :)

  • Fun video, thanks!

  • Great DIY!

  • I love this video. VERY skilfully. Thanks

  • i saw the vidio and imade one, thanks alot

  • @falconbbahrain ----very welcome!! :-)

  • i dont know if i believe in global warming and being green but i do believe in being self reliant loved the video

  • @nellynell77 ---thank you nelly! i love it 2 :-)

  • @nellynell77 the most efficient way of being self reliant is inevitably green, whether you believe in global warming or not.

The best set ups I have ever witnessed utilised a philosophy called permaculture, if you are serious about self reliance that's where it is at.

  • That's a cool bin but maybe too small for my house. Cool ideas I got from your clip. Check out my clips if you are interested in wind and solar home stuff. Thanks.

  • now I know why the roses my friends pee on when they're too drunk to walk in the house are so much prettier then the other ones

  • Urine, in full strengh, can also kill the plants...this fertilizer is too strong. It needs to be diluted in water. Yet.... peed away from the trunk of the plant will be diluted by rain in no time. Roots will then find their way where there is food :-)

  • Many people don't know that human urine is almost sterile, unlike the solid waste (poop!) that has lots of dangerous bacteria in it. So yes, you can go ahead and use clean urine in your compost with no worries.

  • @Raoena ---imagine all those minerals going down the drain! wow--- what a terrible mistake. Our plants & compost, love diluted clean human urine. I so much agree with you! :-)

  • What about burning dry piles of leaves and wood and then mixing the ashes and charcoal into the compost? Is that a good way of breaking it down quickly and keeping the carbon or is it better just to add the leaves as they are?

  • @HuskySM450R nooooooo just leave alone, charcoal is good but in really little amounts. and if can kill the life in your pile, they need oxygen food and water just like us. good luck

  • Thank you so much for making this video...I've been wanting to make a composter for quite some time now, and while I might not end up using this exact method, your video was, by far, the most inspirational video I've seen on composting! :-)

  • Thank you very much for your comment!

Making compost is very easy. I have found that for as long as the compost bin (any) sits on the ground, the compost inside of the bin will cook much faster. This happen because microorganisms already living on the ground will find their way to get into the bin (any) for as long as this has holes in it. Microbs, bacterias are the one who will destroy the organic materials therefore making a richer compost :-)

  • Excellent video....bravo

  • Glad you liked it! ;-)

  • Only thing i dont get is with most composting tutorials i see any human or non grass only eatting pet waste in a compost could make you sick....so why are we using human urin?

  • The human body is the richest composter in the world! human waste can be used in compost BUT I only recommend this practice to experienced users because composting human waste need to reach super-hot temperature in order for any patogens to die in the process. Human urine is extremely rich in nutrients and those our body did not use, our soil can use very well. Healthy urine tho... no medicine or antibiotics there --

  • NICE!

  • THANKS! ;-)

  • This is the most inspiring composting video I have ever watched.

  • Thank You boatmancharlie :-) compost making shouldn't cost a fortune. There are lots of items we can recycle to make them work for another project. This was the case of my blue tank. Composting is fun, improve all soil conditions and my organic vegetable garden love it. Have you started your compost pile yet?

  • EXCELLENT - thanks very much and mowing the ingredients is a great idea, except if it is a power mower AND love the music

  • Hello Thanx for the vid this is one of the better how to do composting that I ve seen :)

  • Senor Speilbergo dice, "Es muy bueno."

  • way cool video my little sister says pee is yucky!

  • When you start learning about how to organic gardening, you'll start seeing how pee, poo, worms and other organic waste will be your soil and your garden best friend.

This is a process tho.... becoming an organic person is a great thing....and little yucky things are then discovered to add great value to the soil and is Free!

  • Awesome video! I love the style and music! :)

  • This is such a good video that I've sent the link to my friend's gardening blog. I love the simplicity and cheapness - the tip about mowing the contents to chop them is just brilliant! We retire to a new town next year and this has gone into my gardening 'hopper' of ideas. LOVE IT - music's good too. Thanks

  • Pig manure?

When it comes to composting and working with soil, you really don't want to involve manure from any animal that is not a strict (by design) herbivore.

  • And I understand your concern. My pigs don't eat commercial foods, but fruits, vegetables and grass. No antibiotics, meats or dairy there. I didn't start composting by myself. My first call was to Agriculture extension office and they sent an Agronomist to supervise my work. OK to use "Organic" pig manure for as long as the compost bin is not located near a water stream. Same rule applies to cow and horse manure.

"Organic" Pig manure is extremely rich in nitrogen.

  • Espectacular! Good example for the rest of us, thank you.

  • Very good!! Thanks so much!

  • Excellent vid, lots of info in a short time, love it. Reading the instructions is better than listening to someone saying it as one can stop the vid to read the info. Hooah!

I chop by hand, less carbons, thought of using a elect mower but the coal fired power plant is just 5mi No. of here, and when the wind is blowing in this directions sure makes my eyes burn & water. :( Maybe a solar mower? Hooah!

  • I wish I had a yard so that I could grow a garden and have a compost bin. I live in a small apartment without even a patio. :o( But if I ever do move into a house, I'll remember your compost bin and try to make one similar (although I think I would make the opening larger in the side). I like the music in your video, too!

  • This is such a great video!!! congratz, it has all the information needed to make a goo, fast and healthu compost

  • It seems like the bars might make it hard to get the finished compost out of the bin. Can you open the bin up from the side?

  • Very good question simply2love =)

I use this tumbler to make little compost for my house plants and to get my seeds started. When I made this tumbler, the barrel already had that size square opening already made. I didn't think of making it bigger at the time. Now, if I was going to make me another tumbler to make larger amount of compost, then I would definately make a bigger opening so I could collect the finished compost in bigger amounts at the time.....or..

  • ..find me some sort of removable pins to secure the bars to the lid and then un-secure the pins to open my bin from the side vs. from the front.

I like the front-opening better because that make it easier for new kitchen scraps to be placed in the center of the pile vs. having to un-secure the pins>open from the side> add waste > push the new waste into the center of the pile then repeat every time new stuff is added.

After all...your tumbler can be built with both openings...don't you think? =)

  • This is the best, most informative video I have seen thus far. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, it is greatly appreciated! I plan on using this information to make several composting bins for my high school's small organic food garden (we are in seattle washington).

    thanks again:) love the music

  • Great info on composting - provided more info in a short time than other sites. Was wondering about the rods running through the barrel - I assume they are there to help mix up the compost as you turn the barrel is that correct? I am going to build one and just wasn't sure about the rods...

    Thanks again!

  • Thank you much for your kind words! =)

The 3 Square Rods work better for me than just one round rod as seen on commercial composters/tumblers. When the compost fills up to 3/4 of the barrel, the 3 rods help brake down the "in process compost" more efficient than one rod alone. It is my humble opinion and the reason why I decided to build my tumbler this way. It does a wonderful job and I'm very happy with my invention =)

  • Ooops, forgot to mention that my other videos will soon be Dubbed to English Language. There I explain other ways to compost, what to do when problems occur, what to add & what not to etc.

    I bet you'll like them =)

  • I love your video immensely. The information is clear, concise and the music makes me want to jump right out and compost!

  • ha ha ha-- lol--- I would never expect this comment but I am glad you ready to jump to healthy organic living with music & all! ha ha ha ha ha

    Thanks for your comment! ;-)

  • I've head multiple warnings about using animal waste (including human waste, which urine qualifies as being one) in composting.

  • I've heard more warnings about using chemical fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides and how they are influencing to bring more people to our hospitals with Cancer, Asthma, other Respiratory problems, Liver and Kidney disease, Skin problems and even Blindness. How could any manure be harmful to humans if Mother Nature feed her trees with bird drippings, dry & green leaves and even manure from other animals that only eat dead meat?

  • If not under medication, Human urine is not Toxic; Chemical fertilizers are. Other than pork, cow & horse manure can also be composted, but is far more of a complicated process since human waste compost need to reach high temperatures over so many degrees in order to get pathogens killed. Have you heard of Composting toilets?

  • Healthy people should not be afraid of their own rich organic waste; in the contrary...can you imagine the amount of active positive nutrients (good for the Earth, not to drink) that goes in our urine after it passes through our human system? ...in another words... our Urine is already naturally composted by our bodies! Microorganisms get very happy, will eat your compost pile much faster when you feed them active organic positive nutrients like Human Urine, diluted in water of course.

  • Use at your discretion and always follow your State governing recycling laws. If you feel human waste should not go in your pile, it is as simple as not using it =)

    Thanks for your comment! :-)

  • This is great thank you so much for sharing!

  • love it! thanks for sharing :)

  • good one!

  • Thank you producegarden :-)

The most I like about composting is that my trash no longer smell! These kitchen scraps can really discompose fast. No perishable foods in my garbage = no more rodents or roaches near my trash can, plus the benefit of growing healthy veggies in no time with the same waste :)

  • I am impressed. I've been doing some research on composting and also have been on the lookout for a way to do it. Unlike other videos I've seen on Youtube where you have to go and buy expensive equipment, this one here really motivates me to finally get it started at the most minimum cost and in a way I know I can do it myself with very little help from the outside. Great job in showing the world to recycle on-hands material to start composting. Like I said at the beginning, I am impressed.

  • By all means, try making your own composter. I don't see myself spending over $200. for a tumbler either!

I mean...some of us don't even a bin, but a corner in our backyard. Don't miss my next videos and Thank you much for your comment :)
