caught Lenny's band back in '78 at The Old Waldork in San Francisco. My friend and I took dozens of Photos and slides. We'll be posting on Flikr & Photobucket soon. Just Google Lenny Williams. They should all be posted by early August 2011.

I fail to see why this one reached #10 or better on lists while What is Hip? only reached like 90 at best. Trying to learn the bassline at last mentioned song and it's sick :D Really worth watching, the whole arrangement on that song is awesome!
My favorites in order: 1) Ellis Hall 2) Rick stevens 3) Lenny Williams 4) Brent Carter 5) Larry Braggs 6) Michael Jeffries 7) Hubert Tubbs 8) Rufus Miller 9) Tom Bowes 10) Ed McGhee Don't be mad, it's just my opinion of who I like in what order! LOL J/K
1973. What a year- You know, what killed TOP's chances for any long-term success was their inability to retain a lead vocalist for more than an LP or two. They could never keep their lead vocalists stay put for any sustainable length of time.
What post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I forgot to comment when I found this and starting sending around the country. There's only one Lenny Williams. I don't know of anyone that even comes close to his voice.
Very nice song ! Nice singer perfomance. One of the two only american songs that appear in brazilian City of God film, not by chance, but for beauty and profisionalism.
This is the very best lineup in the history of T.O.P. One of their very best songs too. Garibaldi and Prestia rule. C. T.'s part on B-3 has never been even closely matched; and is sorely missed by this fan. Thanks for this.
Yeah, this is when music was music. Yeah , I know I sound just like my parents by saying this but I just can't help it. This song makes me long for another time and place. And look at that crowd........groovy....ha ha thanks for the vid
During this time, TOP was also recording backgronds horns for Sanatan and Graham Central Station. They're still great in 2008 and so is their current lead singer.
The difference between then and now is when they play this song the crowd goes ballistic. seems like the crowd wasn't feelin the jam or maybe the ushers were reallly strict? Tower is still the baddest band in the land.
i don't think the crowd is that subdued considering this performance is probably right after they released ToP...so the song was new to the audience. sure, people go crazy now because this is one of ToP's signature songs, 35 years later. agreed that they're still amazing though :)
Even though no ones up dancing, seem all the pretty women are mesmorized and mouthing the words to the song.

have you ever heard of the word...STONED?
malosuave 2 years ago
back then, they weren't 'bitches'.
back then, things were a little different than today.
back then, some folk actually sat in their seats so those behind them could see.
back then, were were pretty stoned, since you could usually smoke (weed and tobacco) right there in the concert.
Besides, that's a ballad, not a git up on yer feet song, don't ya know?

Only Lenny Williams could do that song right. What a great singer and what could have been if he stayed with TOP and sang more classics like this

@ruedydude Micheal Jeffries can hold it down--still! but Lenny's TOP call
