I ve a ATI HD Radeon 5850 and I ve 90° after playing bf3 for some minutes and the original fan is much too loud it really gets on my nerves so I thought i buy a new cooler I decided for the scyhte set. 2 but now u wrote in ur video that the fan is not as efficent as u thought.
So I like to ask: Is the scythe set. 2 better than the original fan I like to have c.a70° instead of 90° and idle 30°- 40° instead of 60
(I dont have oc the card)
Is that possible ? or should I look for another cooler?
@esfreak123: I wouldn't really recommend it for any recent DX11 card simply because it just can't keep up in regards with temperatures, especially when overvolting/overclocking. The base plate of this cooler is just too small to do any good.
My GTX460's continued to overheat with these coolers even after somehow managing to install a Delta fan on the side panel [don't ask how I managed to pull that off...lol!]. This cooler might be okay for older DX10 cards though.
@esfreak123: You might want to start looking at some of the Zerotherm coolers though, such as the Zerotherm Coolmaxx 2000, 3000, or maybe even the 4000 model, but they're usually very hard to find in stock.
As to whether those will fit in your card, I'm not exactly sure. But in my experience, those coolers do a MUCH better job than stock cooling both in noise level and temps. I'm using a Zerotherm Coolmaxx 3000 on my old 9800GTX and 4000's on my current GTX460's now.
@soma1509 OK but its hard to get Zerotherm coolers I looked for them the whole evening . I live in Germany maybe u can t get them there i dont know :D.
Can u give me some other names of good coolers I dont find anything :D
@esfreak123: It depends if you plan to run single-GPU or a Crossfire setup in the future. If you only plan to use 1 GPU, there are plenty of other better GPU air cooling alternatives from brands like Thermalright or Gelid.
If you plan to Crossfire and your space is cramped on your motherboard, then your cooling choices become much more limited and harder to find. This Setsugen 2 is one [pretty bad] option. Then there are the Zerotherm products like I previously mentioned.
Hey Soma, Do your 460's have the 51mm x 61mm hole spacing or the 53mm hole spacing? I'm having a hard time figuring out if these cooler will fit my 51x61 460's. Thanks for the video, at least now I know they will work on my mATX SLI setup.
@kylecates2: As of right now, I'd say avoid this cooler altogether. This cooler is still not as efficient as the stock cooler my 460's came with, and that's not saying much. Instead, go for a Zerotherm Coolmaxx 4000 if you can find it and also some really good VRM and RAM heatsinks. The Scythe doesn't have a wide base plate to cover the entire GPU chip, and that's basically what kills this cooler's performance. There's just not enough surface area to keep it cool.
@kylecates2: Also, my hole dimensions for my 460's are ~79.5mm across diagonally which is how long my Zerotherm cooler's holes are, so yes I have the 51mm x 61mm holes.
Thanks for putting this video up! I've been trying to find whether the Setsugen 2 could SLI, and now I see it can, but what ramsinks and VRM sinks are you using? the ones that came with the Setsugen 2?
@kevinshurtleff: The RAM and VRM heatsinks are included with the Setsugen 2, and can be used on different card models as well.
Do keep in mind, however, that although a card CAN in fact fit in the next slot below the cooler, the fan blades can still make contact with the top part of the bottom card's PCB. So in a situation like mine, I have to use a low-profile PhysX card if I want to have a dedicated PhysX card right below my bottom GTX460 [which I don't have right now].
I had Evga gtx 460's 1gb at 900 mhz 24/7 with MSI Afterburner voltage tweak ,Stock Coolers ,Temps were good , I never hit 80 degree's under benchmark load (I had good case cooling and an air conditioned environment)
@BarackMcBush: What voltage was it set to? For some reason, these cards are horrible at being stable at anything lower than 1.125V on the core at 900MHz, though only on DirectX11 applications. I am still testing to see whether this is just overclocking issues or software instability.
In its defense though, this is not bad for a worst-case scenario since I know almost no one would run these cards with a voltage that high, let alone with poor ventilation on a mid-tower case.
@BarackMcBush: What type of case do you have? Were the cards sandwiched together or did they have space to breathe in between? Was a card underneath the bottom one?
My room's air-conditioned too. Granted, my AC unit is shitty, but it does the job and keeps my room at a tolerable temperature [probably in the high 20's, low 30's *C].
I'll admit that these aren't the best coolers around, but I really mean it when I say this is one of the few air coolers that can fit the reference GTX460.
@soma1509 Cheap 40$ case , I had cheap PCI fan card with two 4000 rpm fans on each card , the cards had space, I keep my condo really cool 20-22 C. Those Evga's gtx 460's that I had were the best performers versus temps ever.
@BarackMcBush: Ahh, that explains a whole lot! Though before I replaced the stock coolers I used to have a 25mm thick Delta fan going all-out at 4000RPM with 150CFM on the side panel. With the stock coolers, it sadly didn't help much.
I can't fit that fan on the side panel anymore, but even with a wimpy skinny fan on the side, it's actually doing well [read: better than the stock cooler and no longer going over 90*C on the bottom card].
@soma1509 gtx 460's aren't hot cards (the temps going up a lot from 1.18 to only 1.125 doesn't seem right, ,Check review of evga and other gtx 460's , I went from ati 4890's to the gtx 460's ,they were a lot cooler than the ati cards , (Which were cooler than the 8800gtx's I had before that)
@BarackMcBush: Yeah, you're right -- they aren't hot cards, which is why I bought them over the 465's in the first place. I guess it's just my specific setup or my case that makes them run really hot. If I probably got the ones with reference coolers on them, I probably wouldn't have this problem at all.
I'll eventually find a good remedy for the excess heat, but for now these coolers will have to do.

@soma1509 OK now I decided for the Gelid Icy vision rev. 2 . I hope it will do the job as well as I like that it should work .:D

@ComputerTechTV: Cheap 1080p camera does the job well, though I had a lamp with me the whole time. I learned that from my previous videos.

@soma1509 It was their max voltage 1.18 , ( I think ,I no longer have them)
