Sadly I am learning only now that hip movements are not to be used in dead-lifts, I have injured my lower back a few times, and now try to avoid the exercise. Thank you for finally explaining this fundamental error.
good video..I've been using my legs mostly to help lift the weight...I see now the difference...Great vid as long with the information. Some of your vids i seen i was like wtf kind of form is this , but your correct....lol Example was bent row...i thought your form wasn't correct , but it is...lots of people come up a bit more, does that usually target a different area or just allows for more weight ?
@DRod79 it kind of does both but the reason most people do it is to use more weight. The upper back and traps are worked more when you stand up more in the bent row but usually people are not meaning to target this area with the exercise, they are just getting into the position they can pull the most weight. If I was trying to deadlift as much weight as possible I would I use different technique as well.
Yikes, I've been doing full plates+ while standing ON a stepper so that I could increase the ROM. I'll be sure just to stay but on the floor. Thanks for the wisdom gentlemen!
Perfection!!! And, hey Ashwalk, I think this is a hard lift to master, like all the king kong lifts. Lo and behold, though, I'm doing it right!! Wahoo! and with a helluva lot more than a ten on the bar! heehee. I did have to correct the hyperextension with the hips, though, some months back. Bad, bad idea. That's what you get for watching powerlifters!! Thanks, Kevin and Scott. Great demo.
This video definitely hit home! ( Coach, I think you wore out your caps lock and ! when I sent you my deadlift clip last summer - it was so horrible- LOL. I didn't know what I was doing). Anyway - this video describes my mistakes perfectly! and then demonstrates the correct- flawless form. I need that reinforcement. Definitely reviewing this clip many times over! Much appreciated Abel Experts!

oh yeah, I wouldn't call it hyperextension. It's called extension. Hyper would be beyond normal range of motion.

i like how your videos are short and to the point unlike many out there. Keep wearing those tight fitting shirts

Thanks sometimes I forget it is about Concentrating on the muscles not how many times you do the movement.

Yes, great point. And there should not be an overhwelming feeling on the low back, in terms of "concentrating" on the muscle
