There is a need in most of us to be up on what's happenin', so we discount the past. Almost all success is built on those who came before. Let's look to the past to see how we got here and thank those who made the foundations we use for our cultural world. So much art, so little time.
I grew up in Nina's hey day. These were the albums we played at parties, This music is Jazz, Blues, it embodies the experience of the day. I expect it is short on views because the musical taste nowadays runs the likes of such talentless performer's such as Lady GAGA. Lord have mercy on us.
how is it that this wonderful song performed by this magnificent singer only has 5232 views? Betcha if you changed the artists name to Lady Gaga the number of views would soar. how sad.
@detweilcny I think is that the newer generations are not familiar with her. If they were to discover her, I'm sure a big portion would embrace her great talent. She was a true musician.
Her musics will live for eternity, even after the world is transformed and modernized again and again.
@detweilcny Nina Simone was never a Pop singer. She had superior chops and a blazing talent as singer and songwriter and pianist. Back when she was recording in America, a Black woman who looked like her (dark-skinned- full lips, broad nose) was shunted aside in favor of Lena, Billie and Ella pheno-types. Nina Simone is eternal. Gaga is the flava du jour. Should she ever have songs which truly move folks, then she may become Legendary like Ms Simone.
I am from Europe, I love curly hair , people who are able to grow gravity defying hair out of their own heads are amazing but my impression of an Afro American is from the bill cosby show and fresh prince (way back)..Beyonce, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, your president :) , Whoopi Goldberg (bas a comedian other rules apply), some other shows of course, other musicians and a couple of others
But it seems to me these people are all quite hm.in lack of a better world NonNinaesque ...?

I tried to think of an afroamerican singer I know which has her looks in the current music world
dark skin tone, broad nose, lips that are full but not neccessary in a "fashionable" way?anyone?Tracy Chapman? Who else?
The caucasian look is still very much in demand it seems......

I once read that a nose rhinoplasty is the number one surgery for AfroAmerican (wo?)men.
So where is the change, the difference to "yesterday"?
I would love to see some interesting faces, not just pretty - which in this case means most generic - ones.
Well, most importantly I would like to see more artists that are not fake and put together and "made"....
I am part of the audience. Why they always think "the audience" is dumb aaand deaf.... :((

@TheAnchella
Nina Simone was one of kind. Everybody is non-Nina-esque.

@TheAnchella Kelly Rowland, Fantasia, Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, Kelly Price to name a few. All darker and quite beautiful.
