I love this song. My family is currently based in the US, but we still visit our cottage north of Kingston, ON. The minute we cross the border, we switch to Neil Young tunes. It's the perfect complement to Ontario's rugged beauty. When I'm having a tough week, Neil Young brings me to Bob's Lake.
I thought it might have been Vancouver native Sarah Maclachlan singing "I Will Remember You" but maybe this was better.
Neil Youngs father, Scott was a famous Canadian sportswriter....in the era that meant hockey writer. He should be in the Hockey Hall of Fame but sadly isn't. Like his famous son he had a thing for speaking his mind.

@paulolobao1961 I met his sister a couple of years ago. She lives near Blind River. Where his old car broke down. Small world, eh? I guess people "bugged the shit" out of her about concert tickets, when he was playing in the Sault. The "proverbial" woodwork kicked in, I guess. I'm too proud, or I'd be too embarassed to try to capitalize on something like that. My theory, is, crack the wallet, buy a ticket, or , get lost!

@t455m He is still alive today. And there is great music right now too, my friend. You just have to look for it.
Everyone dissing todays music is just looking through rose tinted glasses. There was crappy music 4- years ago and there is crappy music now.
The truly talented artists are generally a little harder to find, but there are a lot out there. Check out the Arcade Fire, John Butler, or how about some kickin rock like White Stripes, Black Keys, and Pearl Jam!
This was one of the best highlights of the 2010 Olympics. Gen X and Gen Y (especially Gen Y) cannot appreciate this guy's talent. I guess that's what happens when artists like Lady Gaga are your hero.
@sickdawg22 Uh, yes, I don't think Gen Y can't appreciate this. Gen Y is what I refer to as the "lost" generation. Everything is rush, rush, rush, rush, rush. Can't write a meaningful letter ... nope, needs to be a 142 character (or preferably less) tweet or text message. And heaven forbid you form meaningful, face-to-face relationships with anyone. Gen Y's philosophy: Solve world hunger on Wed, cure cancer on Thur, party on the weekend. As you would say, whatever...
@tritonrocks i see from your profile that you're 60 years old. why don't you do like the rest of your generation and get off the computer, watch jeopardy at 7:30 and then go to bed. and my generation does nothing but party, eh? all your generation ever did was get high, usher in the terrible music of the 80's and blame gay people for aids. you think we invented the text message, msn, or the tweet? we don't have a choice as to what technology surrounds us.don't sit here and judge my generation.
@tritonrocks That is a horrible over-generalization. My entire family went to see Neil Young in concert when I was 20 and my brother was 18. We both have always loved Neil Young. Your comments just show that you are a bitter old fart who thinks he/she is the only one who can appreciate good music.
You do realize that there was crappy pop music in the 50's, 60's, and 70's, too right?
Why don't you go listen to some good current music, like the Arcade Fire, then come tell me about my gen
@vanderaa I stand by my comments. I currently work with a sales force made up of mostly Gen X and Y. They are a fucking pain in the ass. Why, why, why, why, why all day long. Just do your job and shut up. Pay your dues, work your way up the ladder. You don't win $100 million (or larger) accounts like I did tweeting and texting. You did it building relationships. That will never change. Gen Y has got to be the most distracted generation to ever exist.
@tritonrocks no...i'm sorry...i appreciate what you have to say...but the world just moves faster now...it's no longer about waiting your turn...it's about making things happen for yourself...asking why is such a crime, is it?
@mitchejw81 The world can move as fast as it wants. I've learned to move at a more leisurely pace. It's easier on my health, allows me the time to enjoy the simple moments, like a rare vintage wine. Speaking of which, I just closed another $80 million order over a nice bottle of 2007 Paul Hobbs Napa. They don't teach this in school, and it's something you don't text or tweet. You do it in person. With relationships that take decades to build. Gen Y will never understand. Never.
@tritonrocks Just playing with you though please refrain from insulting people because you feel yourself superior because perhaps you might be more successful than the average Y Joe. I can assure you that there are Y's more successful than you. Not that I think that's the message your intending, but, it appears so. Vintage wine or not. Besides, it's a good thing that people of diverse age groups can find a common bond. So relax and don't get so bent outta shape.
@tritonrocks thats great...i'm happy for your success...unfortunately sweeping statements like gen y will never understand come off as bitter...while i do agree that relationships are key to a happy, succesful life, I do not believe that in this day and age that it's always the most efficient way to do things. I'm 28 and I own my own business. I live in Chicago, and I'm kicking ass, and I'm learning all about who and how to trust and build those relationships...but i've been screwed a time or 2
@mitchejw81 Today you're 28 years old. I'd like to talk with you 22 years from now when you're 50 and see how you're thinking and your views on people. I have been very, very fortunate in my life, with a fantastic, attractive, loving wife, successful in business, etc. I have totally and completely given up on most kids 18-30. All they want to do is text. They can't carry a conversation if their life depended on it. Sadly, they're the easiest to rip off as well.
@tritonrocks Good to know that while Gen Y is 'tweeting and texting', people of your age are still making bigoted, generalized statements. I guess every generation has its own shortcomings, but you, yourself, obviously do not understand Neil Young or what he stood for. If you did, you wouldn't be on here spouting your self-righteous and arrogant garbage.
@ind844 I fully understand what Neil Young stands for with his music. My gripe is dealing (not working, dealing) with kids who cannot focus for more than 15 seconds. Rush, rush, rush. Make a lot of mistakes, keep repeating until it's done right. It would be nice if a task or program could be discussed ONE time, with NO texting, FACE TO FACE, and get things done more efficiently.
@mitchejw81 That kind of sucks. I live near Blind River. In Northern Ontario.. it's beautiful here, go to work 19 minutes away, go fishing after work, pretty cool.
@Calabias The fact that you cannot even remotely fathom what I wrote tells me you're part of the hopeless Gen Y generation. The sad thing is, one day, my life may depend on the medical skills of someone from your generation. That scares the crap out of me. I can see it now - my wife at my side asking the Gen Y doctor "is there anything you can do?" and the reply will be "whatever".
The Games have still got some leftover sacred vibes from the old days when they used to be a religious act to honor the gods. This proves it. This was perfect. Go Neil, we love you.

I was at this show. It was sold out. And also one of the best Neil Young shows I was ever at. He played 2 sets...acoustic and electric and lasted for just shy of 3 hours. I hope Neil rocks for 40 more years. He's one of the very best! Check out his new movie if you have the chance.

@rockandrollhunting He may reside in America, granted. Never forget where you came from. We haven't forgotten where he came from. Two awesome countries, I dont see the need for the never ending competition. Blind River (mentioned in the song) is in Ontario, Canada. That's Canadian enough for me. Besides, it's about the music anyhow. Our two nations both enjoy him. I don't mind when a good artist comes from America to say he/she is American.
@clancy49 sure, that's from an obscure live track called 'nowadays Clancy can't even sing' some of which is about a guy he went to school with - great name!!
