As great as "The Schizoid Man" was, I have to say this was my favorite episode. Just so satisfying to see No. 2 so utterly owned without No. 6 even breaking a sweat or doing anything more than giving him more and more rope to hang himself with.
"PAT A CAKE PAT A CAKE BAKERS MAN BAKE ME A CAKE AS FAST AS YOU CAN"
I watched the American re-make of The Prisoner last week - lasted less than 10 minutes before I had to turn off. Utter rubbish. Some of the worst television I have seen in ages. The original is the best by a mile, always will be.
The anvil is actually stronger than the hammer which would eventually break after repeated hammering attempts. For some strange reason people always view the hammer as being stronger though.
That's the failing of Number 2 here. He uses the analogy to suggest the beater and the beaten. But the object/man that resists repeated assault without breaking exhausts or destroys the assailant.
A 60's classic. Possibly my favourite episode also. The opening sequence where Number 6 breaks into the girls room just after she jumps out of the window sets the stall for the whole episode. Such strong acting from everyone in each episode - Leo McKern ( Rumpole ), Patrick Cargill ( Father Dear Father ) etc etc. Portmeirion is a stunning place to go to - if you get a chance - go.
Love the sinister upper-class British accents in The Prisoner. No.2's like a public school headmaster.
I remember this one well. I think we all knew No.2 was finished after this meeting. If someone lashes out at you like that to truth, it means they've reacted to you, rather than the other war around ;)
It's amazing to see how well this holds up after more than 40 years. Look around the same games are being played today, being both "Moral" and "Individual" seems to be almost impossible these days....
you're welcome . . glad you took it nicely! some people would get upset. You took it well. I see you changed it! Good job, and thanks for uploading! (I think it's my favorite Prisoner episode)
I don't know what I was talking about . . .certainly, Number 6 didn't kill her, but Number 2 did. Is that what you meant? Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Great series. Too bad only 17 episodes. However i was lucky to get it all on vhs tape. Still looking for it on DVD. Maybe one day;=p

"I WILL BREAK YOU NO. 6" all I can say to No. 2 is good luck. The way I see it to him you are just nothing but an obstacle that needs to be crushed.

@StormsongK The Prisoner turns the Hammer's own traits against him, like aikido.

@SiberianGinseng Thats a good analogy, the question is why does the hammer think its in control when it has no mind?

clever scene, look at how he realises he can break number 2 one number 1 calls

@corky76 Yes - He realises that No 2 is not just afraid of his superiors, he is also paranoid - and both can be used against him.

Serious badass. He's got that British "Civilization will kick your savage ass" thing going.

Moral is a dirty word. And individual, sadly. It's all team-player stuff and fitting in; going with the flow, wherever that leads.

he brought the girl to despair which in turn caused her demise; so in essence, he murdered the girl
