Awesome horse, to those of us that know, his rating of 130 was never a true reflection of his greatness or ability..Shergar rated 140 would not have got near him.

Lammtarra will always be one of the true greats; Derby, KingGeorge, Arc in one year. No-one can take that away from him.

Bringing back good memories! I remember Frankie Dettori saying in the mike immediately after the Arc: "zis horz iz aa LION!" :-) Indeed he was.

This horse was amazing , I dont think people realise how good he was , to win the Derby with his first run of the season , I might be wrong but never done before or since , and in record time.

@remitablechair Lamtarra was a wonderful horse. I think that Shaamit won the Derby with his first run of the season in 1996.

This horse just didnt know how to lose. 2 out in the Arc i thought it was gonna get gobbled up, but he just kept finding more everytime he was challenged, a true legend

What a slugger Lammtarra was. I am an American but I love European racing. Swain was such a nice horse, he could run with the best on the grass and dirt... should have won the BC Classic. In my opinion, that would have made him one of the best in history. Lando was a favorite of mine.

Toughest horse I ever did see. Only Giant's Causeway compares. Strange to hear Peter O'Sullivan in his Arc commentary say Freedom Cry from Lammtarra at one point. To me it never looks like Lammtarra ceded the lead at any point once he hit the front early in the straight.

kkk. tho it aint my style to agree with ppl, especially those whove subscribed to ruk, this for me is one of the best racing videos on yt. its an insult that it hasnt had way more views than it has. maybe its coz u havnt put the winners name amongst the tags... i didnt record either of these races at the time, so thanks to you n the others who uploaded them, i got em 4 keeps now. thanks.

great vids,bring back a lot of memories,was on pentire every race that season,even when he won at 33/1 at sandown on his first run,think hills went too early in the king george,dont get into a fight with lammtarra,what a horse he was!

Lammtarra's Derby victory is the best wet sail finish ever to a Group 1 race - 1986 Arc included. I'm not saying Lammtarra's turn of foot matched Dancing Brave's, but whereas in the 1986 Arc you could call the result at the two furlong pole, in the 1995 Derby it was impossible to call the winner at two furlongs out. The colt was still learning his trade in the Derby with 200 yards to go - and he won. Magnificent.
