  • i think the false dichotomy is between "meditative peace" and "restless thought"

both abstract language (science/philosophy) or emotionally unique states (religious experience/meditation) can help bring you more fully *into* the world

if life is a piece of music, the profound do not long for silence or chaos; they long to see it all - this means, knowing mathematics of it, history of it, context, gaining perfect pitch, knowing the artists, etcetc.

there's no easy way to experience life fully

  • found this: zSZNsIFID28

I think what Feynman says of science here is quite right for most fields: This means, he defends science from "art", but this defense holds for philosophy, music, meditation, dancing, and so on..

you say search as if it's a bad thing, but everyone with lots of vitality will explore, challenge themselves, and try to find new things, ideas, people..

i agree philosophy can be used as a way to step out of life, but so too can meditation or religion or any other thing

  • I agree with that last line that labels have nothing to do with reality. People can believe in whatever they want, but it doesn't change how the world actually is. It's like if people were to still believe the earth was flat, it doesn't change the fact that it's round.

  • all i have is my experience. i translate this into discernible slices of content through sensory representation systems, in order to commune, among other reasons.

this sort of labeling i call modeling; it indeed has to do with my idea of "reality," if not with yours.

i definitely do not care for "facts" or "beliefs" or other such figments of the so-called objective.

  • sound a bit like later heidegger.

I am all for dichotomies. Its the LOgician's primary weapon.

  • ..amreally tuned into you. LOVE your senstivity--the music in background. how you 'dance' with it, respect it when you talk....your insights. your a cool find ;)

Yeah, philo-SOPHIA. the 'love of wisdom' where WISDOM becomes less whole organism and more the processes of the intellectual mind!

'Sophia', Goddess, is demoted to the 'mindedness' of 'God' by the patriarchal mindset

  • If you agree with this video Nick, then stop deluding yourself and others with false reductions of reality and create something cool!! :-P

  • there is nothing to search for. Nowhere to go. I am already here now. In fact, here and now are me.

  • i don't figure that i need to buy into certain ideologies such as right or left because this system of "buying into" only gives us one token. i see many realities as opposed to just one and i am slightly disturbed by the fact that so many people only see their one particular way of living.

  • Watching you is a form of meditation, for me, at least.

  • Thank you for letting me peak at your "reality"... made me think!

  • :-)

  • i disagree.

it is unreal to talk of something that begins apart from assumptions.

Meditation is a negation of life.

reality is something derived, not begun with.

words have meaning, they are not empty.

thinking is not an illness, it is the result of an illness, but health too has determinations and assumptions, so to talk of mind or thought as anything is to already use dichotomies.

if something is constructed, it doesn't mean it is false.

  • thinking there is a substrate of unintelligibility that we turn into intelligibility is too a framework of the world.

Does this mean to stop thinking? well, that imperative of "should stop thinking" is too a framework of giving the exterior authority.

if anything, we demand more violence in our spirit...more commanding.

  • erronus, surely you must agree with the aspect that the same inherent flaws of science also exisit within philosophy???

""is too a framework of giving the exterior authority""

    isn't ""exterior"" a construct?

  • all i was doing was describing a point of view and my experience of changing the looking glass when i get bored. how someone can disagree with that is beyond me, unless they think i'm lying about my experience for some reason.

the things you list that you disagree with...i don't know where i implied anything about most or all of those issues in this video.

  • - erronus

    - meditation is a negation of thinking, not life

    - the constructING is true, not the constructed

    - no way to avoid the flaw but to accept

  • yes, awesome -- the constructing is the part i'm interested in. and i'm interested in the constructed thing until i'm not, at which point i'm interested in deconstruction.

but to me, meditation is this process(waveform) at a high enough speed(frequency) for the bitrate to exceed my capacity for perception.

then, when the capacity seems to expand(or the bitrate seems to contract), i make a video(or whatever) then go out to the garden and sit in the grass(or whatever).

  • Wow -

I was never able to meditate or experience any kind of altered consciousness -

the only trick I learned from Matt is to change the perspective and see the ego as something constructed with the constructing being the only truth remaining which is universal and not split into persons.

But watching you advanced guys hopefully will lead to some next step sometime . . .-)

  • "advanced" is a perception of what is. Statements alter our perceptions. Ultimately all there is is what is and our choice of how to perceive it/me. We are all the same. Simply state it and it becomes easier to see, you are changing course in a see of infinite views, your voice/choice is the rutter.

  • i'm uploading a response vid, but i won't be able to link it to this video until later today, so just thought i'd give you the heads up. it should be online in about 15 minutes.

  • ( breathing again after two days of concentrated waiting :-)

  • sincerely thx for watching

  • Wow man what a great video -

satori in six minutes plus ten seconds contemplation time -

    outstanding performance !

Truth isn't knowledge but a state of mind -

and you've nailed the core problem.

I think continuing discussion on that level also is a kind of meditation

so it makes sense to do philosophy this way as to find more angles on this state and to realize higher levels of intersubjectivity.

    Thanks for sharing !
