  • in terms of rarity or collectability, which is better? D6 or D6C?

  • I had the "little brother" of this machine, the Sony WM-D3. I can't say watching this video brings back any fond memories of these machines. I don't know how much of an improvement the WM-D6C may have been, but I found the WM-D3 fiddly, fragile, and with average sound quality. For $300, the little digital memory card recorders that have flooded the market are a far better deal, IMO.

  • I generally preferred the sound of the Type I/ferric cassettes, despite their being noisier and not being able to handle as much signal.

  • I can't believe you paid that much for a cassette recorder.

  • the good old tape

  • I plugged it into a 12V DC instead of a 6V DC and I think I broke it. Be careful. Can the technics amongst you advise me if this might be the case and if so can it be repaired?I Can't get any sound out of it when put cassette in and feel I have maybe blown something inside the machine? Anyone know?

  • I just bought one in excellent condition at a garage sale for $10. I thought it was a deal, but when I got home and did some research, I realized that I got a real bargain.

  • it is sooo cool !!! I want one :-D

  • Used to have one - top kit

I used a Sony 907 stereo condenser mic

Absolutely brilliant & bomb-proof to boot

  • Oh, man this brings back memories. I just dug my WM-D6C out of storage and have put it up for sale on Amazon. Just search, I'm the only listing. What a great machine this was.

  • How was the sound quality? I heard it was pretty good.

  • What's the name of that 1987 recording??

  • how is the D-6c Differrent from the D-6? I know the D-6 doesn't have the attenuation switch on it... but it has an extra headphone jack.

  • @freezazoid The WM-D6C has Dolby C noise reduction, as well has the Dolby B that the WM-D6 has.

  • this is a direct drive walkman!

    no fiddly little belts.

    quarts system

  • Does this walkman use belts or direct drive?

  • @TVperson1 this is a direct drive walkman!

    no fiddly little belts.

    quarts system

  • You did a good job except the part with the focusing to the player. But next time i bed you do much better than this time. But i give full points for the idea to put it on youtube. Great job. So other people might get help too, like me. I was wondering about the battery case. Mine is a used one and i don´t know where i could get this thing for using the walkman with 4x AA Batteries. Do you have an idea. I asked sony in first place, but i don´t even get a email in return. Bad job, really bad.

One of the best mobile recording units ever made!

  • Where the hell did you learn how to use a video camera???? What part of CLOSE FOCUSING LIMIT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?????? If you SO WANTED to do a "review", why didn't you FIRST, USE A TRIPOD or some other SUPPORT??? And for a "review" (assuming it was PLANNED), why didn't you write a SCRIPT so you wouldn't, you know, OVERUSE THE GRUNT, "UHHH"???

  • @mackjonesy SORRY, WHERES YOUR REVIEW? CUNT.

  • I have just purchased one of these and I love it, superb build quality and a joy to use. Couldn't afford one back when they were around in the 80's

  • men! this D6 is great , so great
