The battery runs at 3.7v, and you are putting 4.5v into it. That's just stupid.

You can get replacement SP batteries for dirt cheap.

And get a screwdriver. Not that it really matters, your SP is already completely ruined, but using a razor blade is a good way to scratch your gameboy and strip the screw.

No one should do this mod. This shouldn't even be on youtube.

@AmonAmarth02 actually, my SP still works fine i have since gotten a new sp battery

and the only reason i used the razor blade is because nintendo has thos weird tri point screws

not to mention i got the thing used anyway, it was awful before i had ever had it, covered in coke and spray painted and scratched up it was really a POS

i have since replaced the battery, the plastic screen cover, and taken it apart and primed and painted it its not so bad now

The battery compartment does not have the tri-gram screw. It's a philip's head on all revisions of the SP.

I never said it wouldn't work after it. But doing this can damage the system quite easily. And you said the screen was brighter, which is likely to damage the LEDs in the frontlight.

@legendofmatty actually, it still works fine, i use it all the time. like ive said before, i got this thing used and in terrible condition, the screen was scratched to hell and it looked like someone had spraypainted it and soaked in rusty water for a week, but ive fixed it, got a new screen, replaced the battery, tis a great device and works perfectly

Again, this is simply amazing.. And to the retards flaming; the impractical installation with batteries glued to the back of the screen isn't where this mod shines, nor where your focus should be.. The idea is to free you of a worn or destroyed battery, and to prolong the time between the need of an outlet.. ommit super glue, gaffer over bat compartment,Then nice quick fix ,without ending up with a sht load of glue over your console when you get proper replacement, and you can get 3xaa batt holder with pp3 clip ,saying this i got an old clear gameboy with epoxy resin filling the holes i made when attempting to make it a rechargable,thats irony :-)

You are the biggest idiot I have ever seen. You took a nicer rechargeable battery and replaced it with 3 crappy AA batteries which you glued to the top of your screen. Nice idea, until the batteries die and you need to rip it off the top of your GB and replace the batteries.

This has got to be the stupidest MOD I have ever seen.

You used three NON-rechargeable Energizer Batteries, GLUED them to the back of the screen, after covering them in electrical tape, only to realize that you'll eventually have to rip all that apart just to change the batteries, and then what, repeat the process again?

Here's a common solution: Buy a new Rechargeable Battery from Nintendo, or eBay...

@LordXaero He won't really have to rip anything apart. Just unplug the 'battery pack' from the connecting wire that goes into the original battery slot and replace it with a new 'battery pack'. Since he'll only replace when the batteries are dead, there's no need to rip the tape off or anything...

Although buying a new one is probably the best solution.

But this isn't a bad short term fix. Pity it doesn't show how to make the connections in more detail...

yea i filmed it on my webcam.. it took me about 30 min to do and if i used my normal camera (sony handycam hdr-tg1) i would have taken FOREVER to convert 1080i into wmv to edit lol

I've often wondered why they don't let you use regular batteries with the SP. It's never happened to me, but I imagine it sucks if your GBA dies when you're way out in the boonies and there's nowhere to charge it up.

Great mod, I did something like this once except with the original gba.

Next time, try using rechargeable batteries, you can find them at radio shack...

and you can easily recharge the batteries.
