  • love this song! :D ty 4 upload!

  • @CpuFreakGerman Gern geschehen ;)

  • @saffi01 hätt' ich auch deutsch schreiben können xD

  • @saffi01 Keine Sorge, bei Erstkommentaren bin ich immer für Englisch damit sie andere auch verstehen können. Passt also ;)

  • Wish i was the. But i didnt discover Genesis untill 2009

  • The background images <3

    The tambourine dance from 1976!

    Omg,I felt like I was there,but I was born in 1997 xD

  • @magic8ballgirl This is from 2007 so you might have been. ;)

  • @saffi01 LOL,haha! Yes,I know c:

  • Triste et poussif par rapport au passé.

  • @JoystickPhil Sorry but I don't speak French. :(

  • Richard Hammond hates that bit!! 1.33 XD

  • Mike Rutherford is a godly bassist.

  • I know what I like...... Genesis !

  • ...me, i'm just a lawnmower...you can me by the way I walk! I LOVE 70's GENESIS!!! The music in this band is NONE OTHER LIKE.

  • to tony, mike, phil, steve, and peter: THANK YOU for making the most amazing music ever written! your music has been a huge part of my life, in a way that no other band's has. you should be proud of what you've accomplished. your music is still finding new fans, both young and old, because it is timeless and brilliant.

this band was really something special, even after peter and steve left. i guarantee your music will still find new fans even 50 years from now.

    thank you for everything!

  • AHHhh the wonderful song is playing for years!!

I wish to hear this from peter gabriel RIGHT NOW!!!!!

  • Thank you Mr. Phil Collins for being there with your music through some of the biggest times in my life ... so many memories. God bless you.

  • Selling England is perfection. I'm glad that they keep some old Genesis alive in their live show.. One of the most incredible progressive bands of all time. It's a shame thinking about how the direction of band turned after Hackett left. A Trick of the Tale and Wind & Wuthering are both fantastic albums.

  • @TomWhaley621 How can variety be a shame? Even when they turned more towards pop music it was still top quality except for a few fails, tell me one band nowadays that covers so many different tastes at a certain quality level.

  • Io c'ero,ed in prima fila.

  • the stagnation reference <3

  • top gear lol

  • Great song ... Genesis is one of the best bands in the world

  • I was at the same tour in Detroit and I seem to remember this song being a bit better there than this version. But I also agree with the person who posted this that anybody who thinks that after '76, or whatever date, that Genesis isn't still great. I saw Phil at the Fox Theater in Atlanta for the first time around '77. The tambourine act was much better, other than that? If they have another tour, I will be there.

  • Just when I thought Genesis had forgotten about Stagnation. I hear that synth solo.

  • Original is thousand times more powerful...

  • @ErnieAndMaraboo Original was recorded over 30 years ago.

  • @saffi01: This won´t change anything. At least the 67 - 75 archive version of this song is much more powerful than this one.

  • @Xigjotjslg I'm not saying it will change anything, I just don't see the point in rating a nearly 60 years old singer with the standards of a 20 years old. Of course it was more powerful back then, back then the musicians were young men.

  • @ErnieAndMaraboo agree ,phil collins tryin to sing peter gabriel hurts my ears

  • @crazyboijihad I don't see your Problem to be honest. At no Point in this, Phil is trying to sound like Peter did.

He is singing the song in his own harmony and in a completely different style.

Personally, i prefer Genesis' stuff with Peter Gabriel a LOT more than their later work with Phil Collins as frontman, but this video and their "interpretation" of the song is just awesome!

  • @ErnieAndMaraboo lets not forget that the song has been dropped a couple octaves from the original...as well there is a voice missing from the original....Peter Gabriel was the original vocalist.

  • Jesus christ, I have to read such massive bullshit from pretentious cunts that have nothing better to do than bitch at an internet video as if their opinions were relevant at all.

If you, insecure dipshits, need to make your irrelevant opinion heard, you can do it elsewhere (I bet there are lots of places where you can complain about Phil not being Peter Gabriel and give each other blowjobs for liking "superior" music).

This show blows up my mind. I love this version. The best.

  • sad, collins really doesn't seem to be diggin being up there anymore.

  • Linnnnnnnnnnndooooooooooooooooo, adoro...

  • No point arguing about it. Prog or not or what. Genesis were unique from early on to the end. This song crossed 3 decades and evolved from a ditty, to an improvisation to an anthem. Three ages of Genesis, Take your pick, put them in your order of preference and leave it at that. Great British Talent of the highest order throughout.

  • I love all Genesis whatever year or lineup.

  • I love how Phil relaxes during the instrumental part. Grins at Chester, Mike, Tony, looks like he's having fun. It's good to see!

  • I've seen Supper's Ready.

Laugh away that well put educated opinion.

  • First, there is no opinion so yeah, I am laughing. Second, Supper's Ready is considered to be a good prog piece, to me it's a randomly thrown together piece which I don't listen to. Third, a general recommendation, I am a fan of the later Genesis phase but also appreciate good early stuff such as In The Cage, The Lamb, Afterglow etc. My channel will always reflect that, so if you're one of these "everything after 1976 was shit" fans you're on the wrong channel here and should troll elsewhere.

  • @saffi01 looks like i am on the wrong channel here

  • @MrDeconblue Okay.

  • @saffi01 me too

  • @saffi01: No, not all after 76 is shit but all after 77. ;)

  • @saffi01

i understand you can love later genesis...but you can't don't love perdiod with gabriel

in particular i love period from trespass to duke.

  • @saffi01 I am a fan of both moments on Genesis career, so I appreciate your videos. By the way: Amazing basslines in this song!

  • @TheExcelsior1

It's all good but line ups change some people have a prefance fo the old stuff ......have a look at youtube.com/watch?v=p_EYU75uhKk

  • @TheExcelsior1 :

Supper's Ready is like 7 different songs put together and half of them are not that good at all anyway. If they had kept them separated nobody would make a fuss of that song whose glory is really down to being 23 minutes long.

I find a song like Ripples far better for its overall cohesion and grace. And in PG's era, I like The Musical Box or The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway better.

  • It doesn't feel good to say it, but I don't regret missing this tour, judging by what I've seen of it. The only time I caught this track live was at Six of the Best, with Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins sharing the vocals and the whole thing had much more energy.

Seems this (2007) was a nostalgic cash-till exercise. Pity.

Oh, and I know someone that knew Clarkson when he was a teenager and apparently he's not changed a bit. Top Gear is irrelevant and so are its presenters.

  • @TheExcelsior1 I could really laugh away the whole evening after reading such comments, comparing the band in their member's mid-20s to 2007 when they were pretty close to the edge of 60. Seriously, if you don't like this then don't watch it, I as a young fan was really grateful that they went out on the road again and gave me the chance to see this, even if it was not a second "Second's Out" or "Three Sides Live" performance.

  • @TheExcelsior1 I agree. They sound, dare I say, uninspired. De-tuning everything a whole step does not sound right. Tony's keyboard sounds still sound too digital. I passed on this tour. Went and saw The Musical Box instead!

  • This is a lacklustre load of crap

  • @TheExcelsior1 What an educated and well expressed opinion. *yawn*

  • @bassmasterstuve .. Don`t go there. Clarksons degree isn`t real (it is a honourary degree from Oxford brooke) - He has no real abilities in engineering. Anyway, even if I really like Genesis, I`d a lot to laugh about this joke at Top Gear. It does not negates Genesis in any way, it just clears Hammond isn`t a fan. Not more, not less. We all are different.

  • @flashmantv Is this an American TV show? I don't see the big deal, I know several people who don't like Genesis but that never changed my musical taste which I kept for the past 22 years.

  • Puta que hablan weás estos grigos culiados. Disfruten la música weones en vez de discutir mierda.

  • hey Phil you forgot to mow the grass!!

  • awesome,incredible

  • I can't believe they took the p*** out of this on "Top Gear" last night. If Richard Hammond doesn't like Genesis, then I would like to know what s*** he does like. How can a band be ridiculed when they have sold millions and millions of albums, and played huge stadium concerts throughout the world?

  • @GOLLYSKYWOOD2 I'm not sure what exactly you're talking about as I have not seen said show, but if he doesn't like it, who cares. There are also people who prefer this with Peter Gabriel, it would be kinda boring if we all shared musical taste. People like Lady Gaga have to live of something too ;)

As for Genesis, you said it yourself, why care, they did sell millions of albums so they can't be that bad :)

  • @saffi01 good answer!

  • @GOLLYSKYWOOD2 It's a running joke on the show that Clarkson likes prog rock [he really does, that part is true], they play it as part of his being the 'old man' of the show, especially compared with Hammond.

  • @JohnyVirgil Ah comeon...

  • I never liked this song. To be honest, I think it was the worst one off of Selling England. (And no, I'm not forgetting 'More Fool Me'.)

  • Phil Collins è un grande musicista, un vero professionista della musica.

    Peter Gabriel è un Genio.

Phil Collins is a great musician, a true professional of the music.

    Peter Gabriel is a Genius.

  • grandi GENESIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a brain ... always waiting pg would come around the corner, pah!

  • It's a different version! Everyone has to just accept that Pete Gabriel left Genesis in 1975 and move on. Collins has a different style to him; they can't be compared. This version, to me, seems to have a wistful, nostalgic tone, as if to say, "hey, hasn't it been great these 40-odd years?". It's a throwback to an era that belongs to and is remembered by everyone, including Collins himself.

  • Not bad, it's Genesis of course, but after listening to Seconds Out... Some things will only happen once.

  • We want the REAL Genesis back again!

  • I like both Peter and Phil, but I favor the original version with Peter far more than Phil's. Mr. collins is still a great singer though!

  • Sorry phil, i love the genesis songs in which you originally sang as u have a great voice, but when listening to this i just think, i wish peter was singing!

  • so slow and so down...

  • Phil is a pop singer, only a good pop singer. Gabriel was an actor on the stage.

Here the drumming is flat and boring...phil was a great drummer .

  • Phil learned from Peter and took Genesis into another direction and musical history.

  • we are all getting older, but we all still sound great.

  • i understand the Gabriel Collins argument and have a preference towards gabriel but both singers are great live, but Gabriel is much better for the more intimate shows they put on in the 70s theres no way pete could entertain a stadium crowd like phil can, and Trick of The Tail and Wind and Wuthering was genesis' peak point

  • I love how he gets the audience to respond to him as he raises his hands and lowers them. This is a good example of "group mind" in my opinion. Amazing!

  • @ThefightingCelt And you are hereby blocked from this channel, shire2005 has not said anything warranting such a wave of insults.

  • Phil you are great! after all these years and all the great gigs and the great albums people still can't crawl out of their 1975 hole.

Phil could have walked away way back in the early 80s but stayed loyal to the band and thank God for him. This is Genesis! This is the band! That includes the other guys as well.Gabriel is and has been doing his own thing for 35 years e is not Genesis any more and i'm tired of the comparisons.

  • I've been to this concert there in Düsseldorf and it was a blast - every second was unforgetable. I have no clue how you folks can waste time discussing something unimportant like this. Noone who goes to enjoy Genesis on stage these days expects Peter Gabriel (who is great as well). Phil does it his own way - like he always has - and he does it wonderfully. Thanks for sharing this.

  • @letitplaylouder True words. Been in Düsseldorf the night before myself ;)

  • Collins going through the motions. It sounds tepid. Compare this to Gabriel's and you will immediately realise that Phil was not in the same league as Peter.

  • @ThefightingCelt Comparing Collins in 2010 to Gabriel in 1975 doesn't make any sense at all. Frankly, Peter wouldn't fit into any of his costumes any more and a lot of people would wonder who that fatty sneaking on stage is. Compare older performances by Phil and you'll see they really weren't that far apart.

  • @saffi01 They were miles apart mate. I saw both live in concert in the 70s. Collins did reasonably well in the TOTT and W&W days, but later turned Genesis into a pastiche of what they once were. Gabriel's performances always enthralled and captivated all of the audience, whereas I recall PhilCollins receiving many dissenting voices and mixed reaction. He admitted himself that he could never measure up to Peter Gabriel's standards but try would do his own thing and hoped the fans liked it.

  • @saffi01 ok lets compare both of them in the 70s and 80s and peter still a better vocalist sorry thats my opinion and phil is a underratted drummer cause he was fuckin good

  • @SylvermanMusic I respect everyone's opinion as long as stated in a civil manner. Personally it's my opinion that Phil is a great vocalist and I don't like Gabriel's voice too much, I'm by no means saying that makes him a bad singer in general though.

  • @ThefightingCelt

How do we compare this to Gabriel when he left the band fucking 35 years ago!

    Move the fuck on!

  • @ThefightingCelt If i may interfiere, my opinion is lke ThefightingCelt: cleraly, when it comes to do Peter Gabriel's era songs, the difference between Phil and Peter is very big and notable. But you have to consider, too, that the band went through a very long trip after Gabriel's departure. And they did it VERY good.

Gabriel's doesn't have anything to do in Genesis now. I would love to see them playing together again, BUT Genesis is this way now, and they have THIS sound now.

  • @ThefightingCelt i agree collins is going through the motions here, but that doesn't make his past performances worse. i feel that some stuff they've done live has been better than when they did it with gabriel. not all of it, but some has been.

  • As much as I love Phil I hate to hear him singer PGs Genesis songs...its painful and he doesn't do em justice, he kills em...phil u should have stuck to your own Genesis songs......AND PG has nothing to be jealous about....he's way way above Phil!

  • As much as I love Phil I hate to hear him singer PGs Genesis songs...its painful and he doesn't do em justice, he kills em...phil u should have stuck to your own Genesis songs......

  • Love This Song!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • weak performance

  • I like phil better over peter. peter was a little narcistic weirdo. Phil was more laid back and he really knew how to speak to crowds. Peter just told his stories with all sorts of crazy clothes (especially Hats).

  • @genesisrules You sir are right =)

  • @genesisrules To be honest, I doubt he will get the point. Matter of fact, both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins had a huge influence on their eras in Genesis, but only Phil decided to stick with the guys and stay friends. For me, it was a good time with Peter, but he is as little Genesis by now as Phil is a heavy-metal singer/drummer.

  • @saffi01 Anybody knows that with peter genesis was at its all time musical best. The music they played was so complex that average joe did not understand it. Playing in c#minor playing chords no one has heard of. When phil took over they took their music down a notch and average joe was able to understand thus familiarity breeds liking. I understand why gabriel didnt talk to any of the other members, they didnt care about his child any father would have done the same

  • @mer54gull Hey there, first of all thanks for a reply with a good level of maturity. In terms of music you are right, Genesis used to have a lot more complexity with Gabriel while becoming openly accessible with Collins, the mix of both during the tours was something making Genesis unique. Bit part of the complexity goes to Tony Banks and Steve Hackett though, in those terms I consider Peter overrated. I don't agree to part 2 of your comment though, Peter didn't talk due to his solo tour coming.

  • @saffi01 Either way both has made there mark on what a frontman could do. Peter acted in a way that no other has, wearing costumes and singing songs as if they were songs. Phil on the other hand showed that you could take of the shackles of being a drummer and then becoming a frontman. Both i have tremendous respect for but if i had to pick i think i like gabriels genesis better. (My opinion)

  • @mer54gull That is fine, my personal preference is the Collins era but each to his own. Don't get me wrong, I don't "censor" opinions differing from mine here, there's a huge difference betwee comments like yours and the "ZOMG PHIL SUCKS, PETER THE ONLY GENESIS KTHXBYE". So thank you again ;)

  • @saffi01 Absolutely correct nice talking to you, it is nice speaking to someone who doesn't curse my name with every swear word just because my opinion differs. But, like you to each their own. Nice talking bye

  • What the hell is that? I never checked out any Phill Collins Genesis before and I can see why. The ONLY Genesis is when Peter Gabriel is on lead. They shouldn't be allowed to go by the same band name. Collins should stick to pop. Peter solo owns anything Collins ever did.

  • @TheRabidPosum *Yawn*. So you're rating the entire Genesis/Phil Collins time by one performance you didn't like? Gabriel was there for 6 years before he went and only cared about his solo stuff, not even bothering to meet up with the people who originally made him famous for an award. You go and watch Peter Gabriel, I'll keep posting GENESIS. :)

  • @saffi01 actually I always hated Collins and always liked Gabriel. I didn't even know Peter led the band originally until a couple years ago, when I got turned on to the REAL Genesis. It's funny how you can go from not liking a band to liking them. But yes I'll stict to Peter you can keep this crap. See ya!

  • @TheRabidPosum Preferably not please. :)

  • haha me and my band performed this at a concert at our school few years back and I couldn't resist dancing with a tambourine :) Love this song! Thanks for the upload.

  • I don't think Genesis with PG would have played it better musically (generally they weren't technically as good), but... it's a pretty subversive lyric and all the tambourine/audience stuff sort of kills it. On the other hand, as a showpiece, you gotta hand it to them. Oh shit, I don't know.

  • Phil can't dance

  • @ontherush77 cuz he can't dance, he can't talk....the only thing about him is the way that he walks..............lol. love ya phil :)

  • @freiheitsalv Yeah Phils great and so's Chester but they could never make Foxtrot or anything that even comes close without Peter.

  • Phil just AIN"T got what Peter does Vocally, but do really like the tune .Sorry But I think Collins Fucks it up as he's 'not even close' in this one , seems his range is 'not quite on Today'.. Phil is loaded with talent NO doubt, BUT Gabriel HAS to cover the vocals in this tune for me ANYTIME !!!!!!!!!!!!! Spanky

  • Not too bad in fact ... but a little bit "poor" and tired in comparaison to the one with peter gabriel (1973)

    erik (from france)

  • To be fair Phil's voice is still there. But the tambourine solo should be watched in the older version of I know what I like...

Peter Gabriel aside, Phil was much more supple and looked the part of a troubadour

  • of course it's NOT going to sound as Gabriel's version did ! Nor as it sounded on "Seconds Out"...give the boys a break ! It's 30 years later--GO PHIL on the "tamberine dance "...!

  • Phil is super cool

  • They seem a bit out of it here. The energy isn't there. I know they broke up, but if they did do another album, I'm sure it would rock.

  • Why Phil Collins don't play the drums?????!!!

  • @wikihercios111 He had problems with his hands. Interwiev In one, he said that we had him at the last concert of the tour, stick the batons in their hands, because he could no longer hold.

  • Comment removed

  • The tambourine thing is an embarrassment! What a muppet! Gabriel's voice had a better edge to the song, now it just comes across as mediocre.

  • at least they played it. of course it's different without gabriel

  • miss the drum riffs much?? 1:45

  • It's good to see a bit of the old Phil peeking through here.

  • i'm sorry but i must say it's quite a shit. this is a gabriel song.. when i listen to it, i just think about peter jumping and singing..

  • @xdasoadx You Won ! ahah lol

  • like every Collin's song, this one sounds alot like Tarzan!!

  • @xdasoadx @3p1k0n3r There is no doubt that Gabriel did it much much better. But we will have to consider that this is 30 years after the time where Gabriel stopped in Genesis. You are not able to perferm as well in an age like that. Just hear at the other band members - none of them does nearly as good a job as they would have done back then. If we look at Phil Collins when he took over he was just as jumpy as Gabriel if not even more.

  • @TheSaphiraXD But i 100% agree with you. Peter Gabriel is the perfect voice for Genesis and will always be, eventhough i think Phil is a better singer - his voice just isnt matched for Genesis. It was a shame that Peter left though because the music they made back then was the createst and eventhough im from a whole other generation im completly obsessed with their works back then

  • @xdasoadx

Disagreed. This is not a Peter Gabriel song. It's a Genesis song. It happened to be written when PG was the lead, but he left on his own accord, and Collin's had to take it over. You just don't like the way Collins sings it, and that's cool. I happen to like this version. All in the ear of the beholder.

  • @xdasoadx you're right. All one has to do is look at the footage of early Gabriel-era Genesis doing the same song, which is also on youtube, and compare it to this. Collins as the frontman for this song is just sad.

  • Comment removed

  • @squeapler

You need to watch I know what I like - Genesis - Sao Paulo - Wind and wuthering tour - 1977 on youtube. There is around 2 minutes. Or the 1976 version, also on youtube. It's the best! This 2007 version is slow and lousy. You can't use this a gauge. This is like watching an oldtimers baseball game! Collins is AMAZING, AWSOME doing this in 1976 - 1980!!!

  • @xdasoadx this version don't have the same passion, thats a shame...

  • @xdasoadx

It's not shit, you just don't like it when PC sings it.

  • @xdasoadx its better than leave the song back and let it rot....

  • No insults here please.

  • Wow, Tony and Mike sound awful on vocals.

  • @TheJman2600 could u do better?

  • Yes, actually.

  • @TheJman2600 u suk

  • Ah, my first YouTube insult. From someone who can't even spell "suck" correctly.

  • @TheJman2600 Which part of my above comment didn't you get? This is about discussing the video/the song/the band perhaps, not another silly bitchfight between Youtube members. I will delete any further comments of this kind and block you from my channel if this happens again.

  • @TheJman2600 U EZZ SO FAT AND SO UGLY OMG GENESIS IS SO GODD BAND THERE BEST ALUM WAS LIKE IN TOO DEEPP OR WE CANT DANCE! I FREAKING HHATE SElING ENGLAND BY THE POOND AND TRESPAS AND NURCARY CRIME ADNAND FOX_TROT OH THE LAMB FREAKING SUKS!

  • Comment removed

  • Its true that I'm not a Phill Collins fan,but the reason I watched this was to see how Collins performed the Gabriel era material.I apologize for the rude comment on Phil's performance.I should have just said that I prefer Gabriels performance much better.I did not mean to offend any fans of Phil, was just speaking my mind.

  • @paullmall No, no, I totally agree.

  • Phil's not bad, just different voice colour, great melodically though. I have to admit i'm a Gabriel's die hard fan but Phil's done a great job, besides the commercial mass stuff. They're still running and if was for Peter genesis would have dissapeared, for me, that's what counts. Hope to see the original lineup again for sure...

  • Phil should just stick with his cheesy pop songs.Gabriel's strong voice and performance makes Phil's version laughable with his weak voice.

  • @paullmall if your gonna hate on the singer dont watch i

    t

  • maybe he's getting a little slow in his late 50's but this was one of many fans favorites at concerts even after gabriel left. both are excellent performances in their own unique way.

  • Phil shouldn't sing this. yes all three of these guys were there for the writing of it but phil should just stick to everything post gabriel's departure.

  • nothing without peter gabriel

  • If only I got 1 € for each of these dumb comments on my Genesis videos, I'd be rich.

  • You would pay yourself?

  • Nah, it should be put into the Youtube terms.

  • This is music at its finest. I am a die hard Genesis fan and this tour was going back to their origins and it is awesome.

  • man, this is still great but phil just.... i dunno, he's not really into it. and he's not giving it his all here. check out the 1976 live video of this for comparison.

they are also doing the song slower. i guess they're just old and burnt out. oh well. still awesome they did one more tour for the real fans.

  • Difference is that.....in 76, he had something to prove. The future of the band depended on how he was going to perform the old songs on that tour.

Do you really think that Genesis did this tour with the fans in mind, seriously?

  • 6:13

    great

  • Muss das so langsam sein, ich möchte fast das Feuerzeug rausholen...

  • Dusseldorf was one of the first song

E.G Twickenham, Rome were better with I know what I like and other songs.

He saved his voice, cause this Video was sent to Cinemas, so he cang Sing Mama from Dusseldorf.

And when Mama was played, the people got crazy and Phil had trouble to get them under control :-D

  • phil belongs on the drums for this song

and only peter gabrial sang this whole album right.....................

  • @flinttyy

bruford did a really good job on genesis: in concert, but you're right, this chester thompson fellow is anaemic

  • say what you want guys they still the b e s t

  • hahaha, that dance always makes me smile from ear to ear! GAAAAAAAAWD i wish i were there in Düsseldorf! My lucky bastard friends were all there!

  • it just seems watered down and slower...maybe more refined? Still good though..

  • so lacking in energy.... dont give me this old man stuff because the rolling stones are prime examples of old guys that still kick ass and they are like 10 years older and did ten times more drugs!!

  • Its because the stones are still rock, genesis turned pop in the 80s and havent turned back.

  • They may have turned pop, but they're still great.

  • Still a lovely song after all these years.

  • what do people expect? Phil's nearly 60, no-one has the energy they had when they were in their 20s! Give the poor guy some credit!

Saw this tour 3 times and loved it....dream come true!
