@COD04MW the manuals will tell you to pull back the slide because it gives the slide a little more velocity going foward because it as more distance to travel, which is going to ensure you get a good tight chamber and the bullet fed properly. so thats how i do it

@papovitch1 You want a fucking cookie? If you have shot all known weapons, you would know the Colt kills, the Tokarev slows down. A .45 against a 7.62? What a fucking joke.
@papovitch1 TT33's 7.62x25 is even lighter than 9mm. It's an awesome pistol, but the M1911 fires a round that's 50% thicker, and weighs more than twice as much. The Tokarev's field strip is more difficult than the colt's, but it's cheaper. 1911 does have a much slower muzzle velocity at around 800 FPS as opposed to the TT33's 1300 fps or so, but you get a bigger bang with the .45 hands down, and it handles more comfortably for most I imagine since the TT has a more verticle grip.
@killshot13000 High powered rifle rounds or assault rifle rounds with very light bullets can go that fast or faster. Pistol rounds don't get much faster than 7.62x25 however. .455 Webley goes even slower than .45 acp. That doesn't mean it's not powerful, just due to the heavy 230gr or so bullet. If .45 acp was necked down and given a lighter .30 cal bullet, it'd be much faster than 800 or so fps. Pistols or SMGs don't fire bullets at 3200 fps usually :s

The relatively slow FPS of .45 don't stop competition shooters world-wide from using the good ol' M1911 pistol. There's also law enforcement in the states that still use the pistol as well I believe, there's good reason why it's still so popular after 100 years, it just works. Same reason why we'll see the glock going strong decades from now as well.

Bullet design has reached a point where almost any caliber can perform adequately in most applications. Also, .38 super can be loaded to sick pressures and even 9mm is available in loadings that are just a bit worse than .357.

What you say is interesting but I will add that without John Browning and John Garand there would be no AK. Kalishnikov "borrowed" many of his ideas from both of these gentlemen. Not to mention that there is quite a large number of people that believe that the AK-47 was engineered by the captured German assault weapon prodigy Hugo Schmeisser (I won't go there though). So it is not just America that is using derivatives of old standards. The rest of the world did also.

@mcxznbv The 1911 is a solid weapon. It's weight makes the recoil relatively easy to handle. To me this is not less comfortable than shooting one of these lightweight 9mm's like HK USP or Glock 17.
@IStartedroflcakes Capacity is secondary to reliability, ergonomics and cost of production. In a military setting, you're hardly going to need more than a few rounds from a handgun, anyway. Not saying the 1911 is perfect - but there are very good reasons people put up with the lacking capacity.

America made some amazing weapons when john browning was around. America hasn't come up with a good weapon since. Almost all of the good weapons that america has at their disposal are derivatives of Browning's designs. The M14, The M2, the M1911. The M60 is the only one that wasn't designed by browning that's worth a fuck.

What you say is interesting but I will add that without John Browning and John Garand there would be no AK. Kalishnikov "borrowed" many of his ideas from both of these gentlemen. Not to mention that there is quite a large number of people that believe that the AK-47 was engineered by the captured German assault weapon prodigy Hugo Schmeisser (I won't go there though). So it is not just America that is using derivatives of old standards. The rest of the world did also.

@papovitch1 I'm sure that the Allied bombers did by mistake because America and The Soviet Union weren't enemies during WWII, in fact we gave you some of our weapons to fight off the Nazis. I like Russian people because I have quite a few Russian friends, and I have to say they know loyalty a lot more than most of my American friends and less selfish than most of my American friends and I am a Patriotic American too.

It was a nuclear standoff between The United States and Soviet Russia, shortly after WWII. There was not a shot fired between the two. It ended in a stalemate basically. [Gun Nut] It's a semi-auto. It shoots as fast as you could pull the trigger. That being said, the pistol doesn't have an inherent rapid fire mechanism.

@mcxznbv The 1911 is a solid weapon. It's weight makes the recoil relatively easy to handle. To me this is not less comfortable than shooting one of these lightweight 9mm's like HK USP or Glock 17.

@IStartedroflcakes Capacity is secondary to reliability, ergonomics and cost of production. In a military setting, you're hardly going to need more than a few rounds from a handgun, anyway. Not saying the 1911 is perfect - but there are very good reasons people put up with the lacking capacity.
