@P5ych0Alchemist62 I tend to write long short stories too. They are harder to place in lit mags. 30 pages sounds like a long short story. 40 pages is where you start getting into novella territory. I would suggest shortening to below 20 pages or expanding to over 40.
Ms. Alvarez, this is one of the best videos on writing I've ever seen. You really nailed it in giving beginning writers good tips on taking the plunge into writing.Often the process is overwhelming for them and you gave them a step by step way to get started. Well done! Thanks for all the feedback, bbs. I definitely write by 'seeing' the characters act out their scenes in front of me. So does Joyce Carol Oates. Check out her video in my playlist. But after I do that, I do have to go back and wrestle with the muse.
What the hell, you can't sit there and force yourself to write four hours straight. I mean how can you sit there and blindly write with no idea where its going?
I tend to be the same way, but this is very helpful information. I have a short story due on Thursday and the anxiety has been killing me. Often times I have a problem streamlining the plot because I want to write about everything else. I'm excited and will definitely give your method a shot... Thanks a lot!!
Is 30 pages to much for a short story? anyone?

Nice vid - I'm going to try to organize a writing contest amongst my friends using your
structure. One friend has written 9 novels and yet to submit - this should be fun and productive. Your delivery is killer - make more!

I love this video and your very laid-back attitude. BTW -- how you write makes sense to me.
