  • the 2009-present Volkswagen Golf is assembled in

    Wolfsburg, Germany

    Changchun, China

    Jakarta, Indonesia

    Pekan, Malaysia

    Solomonovo, Ukraine

  • @Annihilator1111 All the Golf TDI that are coming to the USA come from Wolfburg.

  • @roytoy there for the other markets as well

  • точно пък тия смотани янки ще правят ревю на Фолксваген, дето не могат да направят една свястна кола

  • @golfcheto What ?

  • Haha. Might have trouble getting your golf bags into your Golf.

  • @southsidehonkey the trunk is really huge for a hatchback

  • @lbryan250 I know. I was making a joke. Golf bags into your Golf. Get it?

  • hmm... 30/42 mpg huh... pretty good... might consider gettin one :D

  • im getin a 1.6 tdi wen im 17.. im 15 at moment :-(

  • @killerpigeon347 you'll want something else in two years. and how can you afford a brand new car at 17? lol

  • Why is it that the golf bag is used as a standard of measure, I don't give a damned about golf, only the GOLF car, not the game.

  • I think I found my next car!! I believe owning a Golf would be cool. I would get a 2-door coupe version cause it looks nicer, and it doesn't matter what engine I want in it. I would rather go with the TDI though as a great alternative to a hybrid car so I won't worry about hybrid batteries being replaced or run out of power, plus it is loaded with a lot of stuff, plus it is refined for city and highway driving. So many good things about this car.

  • @TheShamiester I had a diesel Golf PLUS in Germany with the same 2.0 L diesel engine...soooo loved that car! Fun to drive with sporty handling and amazing passenger space in spite of being a "small" car.

  • @markpianoman i drive the work car vw golf tdi and the trans is retarded and thats putting it litely other than that not a bad we car

  • its simple hybrids are gay ... golfs are awsome

  • @stone2008stone2008 True that. Extremely gay.

  • is 2010 now made in Mexico or is that 2011 models??

can wait for the price decrease!!

  • @andrewcbro With lower price comes crap quality. I only want stuff built in Germany or here.

  • @UberWagen The golf IS built in Germany! lol

  • Hybrids suck.

  • Now that the government owns GM, I'm looking at foreign stuff. Thinking of some kind of VW TDI or a Volvo C30. These are tempting.

  • @maganaonline The government doesn't own GM. We the people own GM; where do you think our government gets its money from. We just elect foolish, self centered people into DC, so it always comes back to bite us.

  • @Eball06 Not true. The government only sold off about 60% of it's shares of the company at the IPO. They still own it.

  • @2048scotty Don't you get it, we own it. It's tax payer money that saved GM. But, what really scares me is that 60% of this country's equity is not owned by the mega-banks. If people thought banks were too big to fail before the crisis, well, they're even bigger now. They used tax payer money to prop up these banks. I'm afraid now we will be slaves to these banks unless they get broken up. And that not capitalism man, it is almost a dictatorship.

  • I'd say it's awesome, considering 140hp isn't exactly what you'd call underpowered in a SMALL car.

  • $22,000 for small car ......no thanks !! i'd rather get toyota prius

  • @alexmp2010 A toyota prius IS a small car.

  • Weird, the American's dont get LED tail light's ? They also only get a 140BHP, Europe now gets the new 190BHP Diesel with Quattro Drivetrain!

  • @mckerraljamie JEALOUS!!

  • the future diesel! diesel engines are overall cheaper, they run forever aaand theyre ecofriendly! but people are blind they just see there are electric engines in the hybrid and thats good for environment but there are many disadvantages for example the environmentally unfriendly production of the batteries...diesel beats hybrid

  • Good that USA has start using Diesel. Europe have been using these for years and there's a VW Polo Bluemotion averaging 75 US MPG.... Keep the diesels coming, they're better than hybrids. Not only for fuel saving, but also for the environment

GO CLEAN DIESEL ! ABOLISH HYBRIDS.

  • diesels are awesome and this will out last a hybrid 5 fold...and you can use veg oil, not to mention hybrids need battery's replaced every 5-6 years and its gonna cost a lot 8-10,000 us dollars

  • @OrangePHX correction: it used to be. all new diesel engines produced after 2007 are much cleaner, i actually have a golf tdi with about 8k miles and the exhaust doesnt even show any signs of smoke.

  • ha ahhaaha a diesel tracktor pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

  • diesl cars are SOO much better than hybrids

  • I get about 47 mpg at 75 with A/C on (6 Speed Manual). I only have 600 miles on mine, and the motor will only get more efficient with time. Not to mention I'll be switching to Royal Purple Synthetic for all my fluids, I get it at cost.

  • I've had mine for 5 months, have 20,000 km on it already and I still smile every time I get in it. Mine is fully loaded (here in Canada that means leather) except for the transmission...I preferred manual over DSG. I looked at the Acura CSX which has a few more bells and whistles than a fully loaded Civic and there is no comparison to the Golf. Another bonus is that diesel is cheaper than gas here in Canada.

  • pretty good mileage

  • "It competes with the Mazda Mazda3 hatchback, Honda Fit and Mini Cooper." Only in america do they compare cars from 3 different classes....

  • The website of diesel cars --> dieselpower.blog.hu

  • @Arlin22 Yes we do actually but not the majority

To make things clear we have almost 3 golf course in my city so that's a lot!, even for a Californian city :D

The car does seem better looking and I love German cars.

But I got to say it's better off then seeing all those Honda's and Toyota's in my city, to scale it I would say 50% Japanese 20% Europeien and 30% goes for American made, So yeah it is quite annoying to see the same cars over and over and over again :P

  • Do VW engineers ever drive on US roads not enough suspension travel and that spoiler will be roadkill after about a year.

  • @duncan36 Nope! European car engineers should test their cars in unforgiving road and cities such as Detroit or Chicago. The snow, the salt, the potholes and the 20mph wind in Feb will test any car's mettle.

  • dont like the wheel styling; is there an option that's less flashy

  • $27,000 bucks..........Fuck That! :o(

  • its $24K for a tdi auto...thats expenisve for a sub compact

  • wtf, I have seen like 5 reviews from Carscom and they always talk about space for golf bags? Is that even important? Does everyone in USA play golf? Cause in Europe we hardly do.

  • @Arlind22

People do but they usually boast about golf bag space in something like a boxster, not a small hatch.

  • I love this car.

  • work it, mike

  • biggest downside for me, not all the gas stations i go to offer Diesal gas, and the ones that do normally price it more than the highest end gasoline.

but a great car, i wish i could get one if i had 27K just laying around. i'll try to get one once i'm done with college.

  • Nice review, but be advised that the $1700 tax credit only applies to 2010 Golf TDIs with the DSG automatic tranny. If you get the 6-speed manual (like I did), then the tax credit is $1300.

  • nice

  • this is a mad car,, how much is it?

  • the golf doesnt feel like a cheap car, which justifies the reason its not cheap...its one of those cars that you have 2 experience to really get it

  • still, dont you think 27k is expensive?

i know you can get the base model around 23K+tax, but still above 25K. i rather get a honda fit

  • @LigerZero1985 You have to drive the vehicle. 27k for a good car is not expensive.

  • It looks like an economical little car. Not bad looking. A Prius seems more like an atomic cockroach.

  • @Greg9942 atom cockroach :))))) that is the best description of an ugly car i have ever heard :))

  • Oh dear god yes!

  • imagine a hybrid diesel....

  • I know they are making a Hybrid version of the golf that will be out in a few years time and Volvo already has a diseal hybrid protype right now. :D

  • really!? thats badass! whats the volvo model?

  • The Volvo V70 lol, so it isn't so badass well maybe the power-train and there are Diesel Hybrid buses.

  • Take that Prius.

  • in europe the golf is the banchmark

  • in the US the benchmark is the Honda Civic and sometimes the Toyota Corolla

  • When considering a diesel you should pull up to the diesel pumps and look at the pavement ant the nozzle. If you don't like getting diesel on your hands, shoes, carpeting, then don't buy one. Also, check out the prices of VW's lubricants before you buy, too.

  • + if you want more power from this engine it is pretty easy, this engine can do ate least 180hp with no problem at all

  • 1. Mazda 3

    2. Golf TDI

    3. Mini Cooper

    4. Honda Fit

  • Honda usually is more reliable then VW excluding diesel power trains. As is common with diesels I expect nothing less then a 20+ yr life span or 300,000+ mi. Honda has nothing on numbers like that because Honda doesn't do diesel.

  • RICE BOY CAR. I rest my case!

  • hmmm ill stick with my jetta gli :)

  • HAHAH 0:51 A jetta on a tow truck.

  • @NoGo90 HAHAHA!!

  • I really like this car, it's got a great interior, excellent mileage, and hey, much more fun than pretty much any hybrid. I'm wondering what options are equipped on this test car that brought the price up to over $27K? I see a moonroof for one.

  • does unreliability still come standard? LOL

  • no it is not lool

  • I love this car but I prefer the 5 door version.

  • same here

  • Are you accounting the Diesel engine into the price? This car has value.

  • For 27k you could at least get a Honda, maybe almost fully loaded..

  • A honda? Over a VW?

  • in terms of reliability, honda destroys VW

  • @xxMafia101

That's the question I am trying to answer right now. Looking at the Golf TDI or a Civic EX. I think it is worth the extra cost for the TDI (between the higher quality interior, fun drive, and better mileage) but only if it is going to be reliable. I know Jettas have terrible reliability but Golfs tend to be pretty good. Haven't found much about the TDI. I like the TDI more I don't want something I have to pour money into repairing all the time. Any thoughts?

  • @Yardjass Reliability is ALWAYS ALWAYS A BIG ? w/ VW. All the mechanics I've spoken too hate working on VW's. Lastly I've heard that you must take your VW into their dealership or it will void the warranty if you take it anywhere else.

  • @NuSpain

I don't necessarily mind taking it to the dealership. Every car needs work sooner or later and this isn't a big deal if it is only on occasion. I just don't want a car that is going to break down all the time.

  • That price is not competitive and diesel fuel costs more so...

  • Yeah but you need less of the fuel ..

  • No leather for 27k?!

  • $27K ??

    are they nuts?

  • Rabbit, Golf, Rabbit, Golf....

FFS Volkswagen, pick a name for the car and stick with it.

  • @kazimann Golf is the real name, it always been and always will be. VW Golf is one of the icons of european auto industry and if you ask ANYONE in europe about it, they will know about its. Its more iconic than Mini cooper or fiat 500. Rabbit is a stupid name.

  • @derbigpr500 I am from Europe (Ireland), my point is that they should stick with the same name for a particular model of car worldwide.

  • @derbigpr500 Lol I loathe that name.I bought one new in '06.Flawless car-no repairs in five years. Golf's a goofy enough name, though.I had them remove the little rabbit next to the 2.5 badge-thankfully the only indicator.Made the little girl who's parents were test driving a Passat happy, anyway.

  • $27 000 ?!??!?!?!?

  • You don't have to load it up to $27,000.

  • I don't think that I could pay $27k for a VW Golf. . .

  • @bg1379 easy there, starts at 22k - $1700 tax credit. So cheaper than a prius, looks better than it too, gets good millage, fun to drive, and same price. Its a winner for sure :)

  • @TechWithLukasz

I just optioned one and couldn't get it below 24.5 for what I thought were the "necessities" - Either way, this one costs $27k (comparable to a Prius for sure which starts at $22k for a base), which is absolutely ludicrous when you consider that the Audi starts at $29k and offers much more prestige.
